getting caught here on his own had never been his intention. inari wavered at the sight of Usagi being torn into like a wolf might tear into a hare, considering making his exit. but, perhaps, that was why he should not leave. the numbers of the players had been thinned so much already. if he truly felt as though he could not contribute, then he would reconsider. he winced as a lightning bolt struck almost too close to him, eyes up as he saw some mecha pummelling into the dragon itself.
he could have sworn he caught sight of a child, too young to be in the game let alone this battle, being carried off to safety. but he needed to focus, and so he didn't allow himself to dwell on it. if a child was here, they would be better served by his efforts to fight the dragon.
he lowered his head and began to chant.
luckily, while it was still in range, the wisps of dark shadow began to form into the shape of a lanky dog, maw hanging open as shining eyes caught sight of the great dragon. as if letting out a bark, the creature moved to yap, the magical sound based damage heading straight towards the dragon but unlikely to be pleasant to hear by anyone else. thankfully, it would not inflict damage on them, but only the monster responsible for the massacre.
it would be best to draw near, to draw his sword and attack. only thought of toki held him where he stood, wary only of lightning strikes.
summary:: hardmode: off 1/3. inari arrives in time to see usagi die, notices kingrex's mecha, and briefly saw Chandra and worried after her for a moment before deciding to focus. summoned a shikigami: banshee to attack from a potentially safe distance.

Good, so the girl was stable now. Raynauld set her down so he could focus on dealing with the more immediate threat, patting her on the head (perhaps somewhat patronisingly). Of course, with no weapons that could strike at such a distance, his options were either waiting for a perfect moment or playing interference in regards to the various attacks.[break] And so, interference it was.[break] With Rex slamming headlong into Otohime and firing everything he had, that left Raynauld on the ground to secure the area, difficult as it was with bolts raining from the skies themselves. By now, most groups of players had stablised or at least formed a cohesive wall, leaving him with little to do but dodge lightning and stay on-guard for the occasional attack from the skies.[break] Eventually he formed a one-man perimeter, holding the line against a particular mage chanting inane words. He was with some black hound that made an awful noise, and Raynauld caught himself wishing the dragon would strike it dead this moment.[break] That didn't stop him from diving and raising his shield when he saw a flash headed at it, a lightning bolt striking his shield in place of the magician's shikigami. The jolt coursed through him and made him howl out, but he'd done his job.[break] Twas better than nothing.[break] Summary: Raynauld pats Chandra on the head for being a good girl. He then takes up arms to protect inari in his current position, taking a thunderous strike for the Onmyoji's black hound of a Shikigami.

SNAP! sounded the jaws of the large beast, consuming the Kitsune Berserker whole. Or so it would seem. Just as the dragon would grind him to a pulp, Ater used the moment of intangibility from his skill to his advantage, phasing through the dragon as if it wasn't even there. It gave Ater a momentary chill running down his spine, as everything felt so wrong at that point. He'd use that tactic on a lot of enemies and their barriers, but it was just a horrible experience going down the creature's maws and out of its... back side. Why the hell did that thing straighten out so much?! He wanted to go through the head immediately, not go through its digestive track! Luckily, it was dark and he couldn't actually feel anything. Seeing the dragon's tail curl up, Ater used it as a jumping pad to hop on top of the dragon's head and delivered a well placed blow at the center of its skull as he landed, which caused the boss' head to jerk downwards. Digging his claws into its scales, Ater jumped to the side and slid down. It felt like he was doing a sail-tearing thing with a blade, just like the movies. However, unlike the movies, he got struck down by lightning, sending him flying away from the beast and onto the mech that had attacked the beast earlier with a sickly thud before bouncing off of it, and then finally landing on the ground. Ater rolled off to the side to avoid being in the mech's way. He wasn't about to get squished by a player after pulling off a 50/50 maneuver.
Tags: Notes: Hardmode 3/3. Got eaten, but not really thanks to Fade Step, hit Otohime on the head and soon got hit by lightning, which sent him flying onto kingrex' mech, and bouncing off to barely catch himself on the ground.

hex eyed both the man with the white hair and the woman who crashed into her. with the utility's heals, both seemed to be doing better than they were before, though they still looked shaken up from all the deaths that were happening around them. they'd be fine though. with the remnants of cinders and ashes hanging in the air, hex moved from the two, looking to see if her help was needed else where.
a familiar face was found in inari. the foxfire made her way over to the man a grin on her face. "inari you're here!" despite being in the middle of a graveyard, hex's voice dripped with excitement. the woman had felt trapped in a sea of players she didn't know; it was nice to see a face she recognized, especially one belonging to a member in her guild. "i'm glad to see that you weren't one of those bursts of pixels." she glanced around looking for his other half, but he was no where to be found. instead her eyes landed on the beast he had summoned and a scowl rose up on her face. "where's toki? i don't see him, but i do see that mangy mutt of yours. i've always hated that thing."

inari's breath caught in his throat as he noticed the boy shield his summon, wincing in sympathy as he heard the cry of pain. For a moment, the dog paused, tongue lolling while it let out a shrill whine akin to nails on a chalkboard. Some part of the AI, inari had decided. Part of him wanted to tell him that he hadn't needed to do that; it might take time before he could summon another, but that was hardly worth the crusader's life. While not as young as the other child he had noticed too, the man was still noticeably young. "Thank you," he managed, but he was already looking around for a healer while the banshee dog continued to try to bring down the dragon through bark alone.
Briefly, his breath caught in his throat as he saw another player literally get swallowed, only to see no burst of pixels. Moments later, he saw the same player and relaxed.
it was at this moment that hex appeared by his side, and relief washed over him. "hex," he started, faltering over her greeting. "I'm glad you are- okay, too." safe was not the right word in this context, not yet. the mention of his fiance made him falter, his smile wavering for a reason beyond the guild leader's dislike of his summon. "still fishing, i hope." inari had never meant to join a raid at all, let alone without toki, but he had taken one look to know that the man's defenses would be eaten in a matter of moments on this battlefield. here, in this fight, he would be vulnerable, and that thought put inari ill at ease. he was caught between a rock and a hard place, unwilling to withhold information, leave, or invite his fiance to almost certain death.
he should leave. but he didn't.
"this young man needs healing- would you mind ...?" he said quickly, redirecting the focus with good cause. hex had a healing skill, last he checked. he just hoped it would be enough.
summary:: hardmode: off 2/3. worries about raynauld taking a hit to defend his shikigami, sees ater get eaten except not, is relieved to see hex if worried about the thought of kintoki joining the fight, and asks her to heal ray.

At this point with just how high up the dragon really was on top of the hurricane and the lightning striking the area it was way, way to risky to try to use his Dawn-Walker skill. With a sigh Aleister would start to twirl his spear around, only to have to jump to the side to dodge a lightning bolt. Grumbling he'd swing the spear up to point at the dragon, firing off the only elemental charge he had through the air and at the beast in the form of his Radial Burst attack. That was it for him, that was the only gas he had in the tank. "I guess your right Chirp..just be safe okay I'll be your shield while you use that homerun thing on it. logically he knows that they’ll need to leave the town of origins at some point. for some time they had been content at the least. quests had been scattered around the world which meant that the safe little starter town had them as well. it was these few things that had allowed both himself and noel to live a decent life from the beginning. however with each passing day the quests that were within the boundaries noel had set for himself were dwindling and with it their saved pool of money. it had been part of the reason why theo attempted to persuade the other to leave their little nest. his confidence from their past victory had left him arrogant in assuming the raid would be an easy chance to grab something useful in their future here. they needed weapons, armor, money -- anything other than the starter gear everyone was given. but this hadn’t been what he was expecting. the wind stumbled his balance for a second as his attention was caught on the same spectacle that had taken noel's eyes from anything else. orihime's landing had crushed Usagi under its claws before its assault focused on all the surrounding players attempting to attack it rather than mourn. his breathing felt out of sync as he stood, searching for some sign of life left within the chaos. he doesn’t catch the voice coming up from his side -- too focused on the crashing of lighting, shouts of players and wind attempting to push him backwards. it’s only when noel speaks up again that the familiar voice pulls him back, regaining what focus he can as his eyes find noels. for a brief moment he wonders if his expression shares the same features; if noel can see his moment of weakness and terror brought up by the decisions he made. i don’t think we should be here. but they were, and he had been the reason behind it. “i …” theo started, quieting quickly before the words that came to mind could come out. he wanted to apologize; to tell noel he had been wrong this entire time. but … “hey, don’t worry. we’ll be fine,” his voice is far more reassuring than he feels and, he hopes, noel will fall for his over confidence yet again. with his posture straight theo clenches his hands, forcing them to still -- reminding his body to (at least) appear calm. if he needs to do anything right now it’s to remain relaxed despite the horrible events occurring around him; in the same way he was the first day they got trapped. it’s what noel needed; and so that’s what he’d be. “we’ll be okay if we stick together. just stay focused …” his hand lifts, gently placing it against noels cheek as he forces a smile. “i’ll keep you safe.”

It was hard to ignore the things that were going on around them. There was too much happening for him to focus on only one thing. After seeing the death of the unfortunate player, Noel took in the sight of ater getting eaten by the dragon only to use a skill to escape. It still didn’t stop him from getting hit by the lightning striking on the ground sending the player flying. Everyone was trying to get attacks in as much as they could while the boss was weakened. But she wasn’t slowing down her assault. No matter how fast her life bar was dwindling her attacks were still coming.
Everyone was trying their best while he stood there frozen and shaking. He didn’t want to go out there. He didn’t want to stay here. There were people dying. If his health hit zero then he would be gone. And if Theo’s health hit zero…
It was that familiar voice that broke him out of his daze, bringing him back to reality. His tone was reassuring and comforting, the words making him feel a lot safer than he actually felt. But that’s what he needed right now. For someone to tell him it was okay and that they would be fine. That they wouldn’t end up like the other players here. That he wouldn’t be separated from-
“I can’t…” He couldn’t lose Theo here. He wasn’t strong enough to keep Theo safe. “I can’t lose you t-” The touch on his cheek brought his gaze up to Theo, staring him straight in the eyes for a second. “I’ll keep you safe too.” There was no turning back now. He didn’t want to make Theo worry about him any longer. He wouldn’t let Theo worry about him. “Let’s go.” With a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes, Noel buffed himself and Theo before turning to the fight.
They were a duo; their classes made to work together and compliment in battle. If there was one thing he knew, it was that Theo had his back in this. Activating his skill, he disappeared from sight, appearing just before the boss and stabbing the leviathan in its side. His hands were shaking and he had to steel his nerves in order to keep up his attack. He didn’t want to do this. He didn’t want to be here. But if doing this meant finally killing the boss or getting them closer to getting out of this game, he would suck it up and fight. And getting them both out of this terrible game was the only thing he wanted to do.
He almost didn’t see the lightning coming down around the boss, only noticing the way the sky lighted up above them before bolts began to strike down. “Shit!” He quickly backed away from Otohime, trying to get away from the electricity sparking the ground around them. With his skill activated, Noel moved back towards Theo, hoping to get some distance from the boss. And it was right before he got there that lightning struck down between them.

before he even received a response, he saw it.
there was a familiar way to how they interacted, the way one grounded another who was terrified. they were not the same as himself and toki, not even close, but the bond was clear to see. the onmyoji's throat tightened for a moment as he watched one comfort the other, and he knew in that moment that he should have left in the beginning to find his fiance. toki had always been strong in his eyes, and yet he wasn't sure what would happen if he himself didn't survive this battle.
he shouldn't be there at all, but he could not falter when his guild leader relied on him.
the omen beside him continued its shrill bark, but inari was so used to the sound what could be overpowering to some was only background noise to him. with himself restrained from approaching the dragon himself, there was little more he could do after directing its action. and so he paid attention to faces and names, but was unable to look away as one of the pair darted in close to the dragon. when he returned towards his partner's side, inari almost felt he could breath again-
then, it happened, and his breath caught in his throat as he watched the lightning bolt strike. "hex -" it was as if he was watching his own nightmare unfold for someone else, and there was nothing he could do to change how it would unfold. in the face of this he was, effectively, powerless. "we need a healer." he called out. he respected hex and her abilities, but he still knew full and well that there was only so much she could do.
summary:: hardmode: off 3/3. inari noticed avarice and caritas , panics when he sees the lightning bolt strike and calls out (vaguely) to hex in hopes she can do something for them too, but realizes probably not and calls out for a healer to help them.

theo heard the hesitation in noel’s voice as he began to talk, unable to voice his full concerns, and if his tone hadn’t been clear theo could see it in the way noel looked. it reminded him too well of the first day stuck within this game and, as he stood trying to find the right words to reassure them both of their well being, theo hoped that today he wouldn’t see noel so close to crying. maybe this raid would be easy despite all the dangers around them; maybe they’d be lucky. it was a desperate thought that theo so quickly tried to cling to, but it was better than nothing in times like these. he notices the smile before the words, and with them understands that this is their own attempt at trying to stay positive. while he doesn’t know the full extent his reassurance had on noel watching the other turn to leave seemed, to him, that it did enough. he let his hand rest on the others cheek, letting his movement be the cause of his touch leaving his; and it’s only when noels back is turned that theo lets all his doubts and worries show in his eyes. that small, pathetic excuse for a thought had slipped through his fingers; but at least noel didn’t need to see it. the beads around theo’s neck began to levitate and with as much ease as they floated he lifted his hand, pointing in the direction of otohime. under an unspoken command the objects flew like bullets, a single one embedding itself under the creature's flesh while the others hit the body, dissipation upon impact to be reformed back around theo’s neck. his damage wouldn’t do much of anything, but it was the debuff that quickly ran through otohime that would matter most. theo noticed the lightning before it hit, eyes catching the sparks and increase in light from the sky. it takes a second too long for his brain to register what was about to happen, but the moment it does theos panic increases, forcing out a rush of words. “noel!” he shouts, trying (hoping) that his voice is loud enough to be heard. “noel, watch out!” he isn’t sure if noel had heard his warning or instinct had made the other retreat back to him; but when theo watched him return he can’t help but feel relieved. it lasts only a second. the words that were about to leave his lips to the feeling of relief that had washed over him all vanished in a flood of light -- electricity coursing through his body. he isn’t sure if it’s the lighting that had struck between them that sent him falling back or something else; but whatever it was theo hit the ground hard. it knocked whatever breath he had held in upon impact, leaving him gasping out to take in air while his body shake from fear or pain. or both. one thought entered his mind through the flood of confusion and panic: he needed to find noel and see if he was okay.

He saw the lightning way before he hit it. He had made eye contact with Theo as his speed increased due to the ability of his class. It would only take a few seconds for him to make it there. That’s all he needed. A few seconds. But the flash of light above them alerted him too late of what was about to transpire. He saw the electricity spark around them and saw the lightning hit just as he ran into it.
The force of it threw him back, far back from where he originally going. It was then he felt the small bouts of pain starting to build up as his body crumpled to the ground. Noel couldn’t move let alone breathe. The wind had been knocked out of his body making it hard to even catch his breath. Everything hurt so much. He didn’t know how long it had been since he landed but he could feel himself slowly regain focus. His eyes, which had been scrunched up in pain, managed to open slowly and see a sight above him that made his heart stop.
His health was in the red, a small line barely visible as the numbers continued to drop down. He could only stare as the numbers continued to dwindle down one by one, inching closer to the dreaded number that would end his life. In the distance he could faintly hear someone call out for a healer but he knew they wouldn’t be able to make it in time. Everyone was focused on trying to survive; no one would want to risk saving some dying kid. People died every day in this game.
But he didn’t want to. He couldn’t die like this. He had to make sure Theo was okay. He couldn’t leave his friend behind after he had promised to protect him. His movements were shaky but he managed to open the menu and grab the health potion they had bought in the chance something would happen. If he didn’t have this, he would have… Noel quickly opened the potion and watched as his health halted its descent and slowly began to rise again. It wouldn’t bring him back to 100% but he didn’t care.
With shaky movements, Noel slowly sat back up and looked around the field. He couldn’t see Theo anywhere. He could feel the beginnings of panic slowly start to overcome him as he rapidly looked around for his friend. “Theo!” He could feel his voice crack as he took in short breaths. He wasn’t dead. The game would have alerted him if he had been. Theo was still in his party. Theo’s health hadn’t dropped to zero. But that didn’t mean it couldn’t. “Theo!”
Notes: Caritas is struck by lightning and is thrown back. He hears inari scream for a healer and sees that his health is super low. He uses a health potion in order to save himself. He is now looking for avarice.

''Oh my, excuse me.'' she said to herself, giggling a bit. The damage to herself was significant to say the least. But the mother was not daunted by such a thing - she had given birth several times! Each twitch in her body was fought back, and then she let out a final sigh. The world around her had been shut out as she felt the damage from the strike. Sure, she could eat lightning, it didn't mean she was immune to it's effects. ''Now...'' she stated, her attention turning to the dragon. ''GET AWAY FROM THEM YOU BITCH!'' she yelled, rather loudly. Though she wasn't sure if someone had heard her through the storm, but they would see the results of her shouts. Sparks of lightning lit up the ground as she moved with great speed - using the lightning she ate to enhance her body. Around her the air cackled, and then she leaped, her fork twirling as she did so. Lighting ran along it as well, as she scratched at one of Otohime's wings. Probably not very deep, but it would certainly sting at the least. Meatpie's face was twisted, fury on her features. Nobody hurts the kids on her watch! After all, she had heard the cries, seen the strikes. To her, these players were just children - they reminded her of her own brood, and made her ache to see them again. And that triggered the motherly instincts, finding herself fighting for them, for their future. the voices around him come out strange, dulled by all the thoughts going through his mind. in the periphery of his vision theo is able to make out the bar of his health slowly fall, however it’s not his own safety that causes his stomach to sink. silently theo watches the once green bar under caritas ’s name quickly go down, falling far past the fade of colors and into the red where it kept its steady pace. it wasn’t the call of inari shouting for a healer nor the harsh words from MEATPIE that forced theo to push himself up from the ground. every inch of his body screamed at him to wait and rest for a second longer; but there was no time. not here -- and especially not with the sudden threat of noel dying coming to reality. his eyes caught inari as he lifted his head, his expression pleading for him to do as he had said; noel would need someone to heal him if he didn’t die before any help could get to him. there hadn’t been many times when theo hated the class they had chosen to take on in this game. while it was strange to take a more passive position in battle theo had loved how in sync noel was with him. it made him feel apart of something important and, most importantly, it gave theo the mindset that he could keep noel safe. but, as theo pushed himself off the ground, he couldn’t feel more useless. in his current state theo wasn’t much of a support compared to others in the game. his healing came from feeding off of noel's damage, but what good would that be if noel was this hurt and unable to fight back. three things are known in this moment. one. this is his fault. he had been the one tempting noel to the battlefield using his own arrogance and exaggerated confidence. two. he couldn’t help noel. he didn’t want to admit that he’d been wrong the entire time but it was hard to ignore the truth when it was right in front of his eyes. three. noel was in danger; and he was too slow -- too disconnected from the world around him -- to find the boy as fast as he’d like. it’s not under theos ability to seek out the whereabouts of his friend that ultimately causes his attention to shift to where noel lay on the ground but the familiar voice calling out his name that does it. his feet can’t move fast enough to cover the short distance once he knows where noel is amongst the crowd and, as though to force his body to move faster, his breathing seems to stop -- stubborn and caught somewhere in his throat, waiting until he finally reaches noel to stop the burning in his chest. despite having heard noel's voice just a moment before theos mind assumes the worst as he runs towards him. it imagines the health bar depletes to zero, noels body disappearing in a rush of pixels like the boy he’d seen die under the claws of the dragon; and, even when he reaches noel, stumbling to his knees next to him, theo still wonders if he made it in time. he doesn’t give noel a chance to say anything nor protest as his arms wrap around him, dragging noel against him until there’s no distance between the two. his grip is maybe too tight -- their position on the field too vulnerable -- but theo doesn’t care, nor would he pay the boss or the dangers around them any attention with noel as he was. his hand keeps noel near, his head against his chest in a selfish act to avoid noel seeing his expression. he can’t hide what he feels from him right now; not the fear and anxiety of almost losing him, nor the guilt and self-doubt that surfaced along with it. he had lied before; he couldn’t keep noel safe.
3/3 hardmode enabled
summary ;; hears inari and MEATPIE talk. doesn't say anything but gives him a look basically asking for inari to find a healer for caritas . self doubt x10 ... finds noel, self doubt + guilt x10, and basically forces this man into a hug cause he's having feelings because he almost lost him. again. nbd.
notes ;; everything is just joke... just game ....
