[attr="class","bw-border"] [attr="class","bw-bg"] [attr="class","bw-title"]the story so far [attr="class","bw-desc"]BROKEN WAR ONLINE™ opened its doors to the public on august 21st, 2046. the first virtual reality game went revolutionary within hours. millions of gamers swept stores of their copies overnight. it was a cultural phenomenon in the making. after hours into the evening on release day everything took a turn for the worse.
players tackling different parts of the game were torn away from their tasks in an instant, thrown into the starting area's town square. doors and gates locked around the playerbase following their arrival. they were trapped. no way in and out, but there was no time to make a difference. a feminine voice from the sky rained through the dismay, unyielding and merciless. her words would change the life of every player forever.
"life is valuable. to be cherished and not wasted. the world of gargantua will prove this to you all. from this moment on, no human player will be able to choose to log out. if your life bar falls to zero you will perish. if the equipment in the outside world is removed you will cease to exist. these rules are effective immediately and there are no exceptions. beginning now there is only one method by which any player may leave this world: defeat it. if you wish to escape this world of gargantua, complete it. this world of giants is now yours to change, so set foot and forge your own destiny. your own war."
the gates opened, the doors unlocked, and the game as all players knew it was resumed. within the hour members of the playerbase began blinking out of existence. those whose friends and loved ones did not heed the immediate threat removed vital pieces of the real-world hardware from their bodies, to no avail. to the families the result was horrific and devastating, but ultimately those in gargantua were cut off from the 'real world'. to them, the players, it was the eventual halt of disappearances that drove the final nail into their figurative coffins. that they stopped disappearing proved to the logical soul that their mysterious overlord was serious. removal of the external hardware meant death, and thus they were left with only one true option: to beat BROKEN WAR ONLINE™
