Dungeons were normally the reason why many people play RPGs, or at least for Index. They're usually filled with mobs to grind up experience and they usually end up with a boss that gives rare loot in the end. It isn't so difficult for someone like him to get attached to this aspect of the game. Well, that was the case until everything became a matter of life and death. There were no respawns after one dies, and that suddenly bumps up the difficulty in dungeon runs.
He entered alone, with nothing but the equipment given out in the beginning. A one-handed sword, armor that doesn't even resist cold and optimism was all he had. The difficulty shouldn't be that bad considering this was just the first floor of the dungeon. If worst comes to worst, he should still survive by relying on his class's bulk and skills of choice, well, hopefully. If things didn't go his way, he could still just call this expedition as 'scouting' for future runs.
Stepping inside the frigid areas alone was probably not a smart idea, but he was tanky. Yeah, he has bulk to not die in one hit and that he was slowly realizing with each passing moment that his current stats probably weren't enough to survive the worst he mentioned and that he made a bad decision and that...
...
He stood for a moment, scratching the back of head with his free hand, before continuing. He might as well go with the intention of scouting rather than turning at this point, right?

Jason hadn’t dared to venture into the dungeon of the endless as the screams leaving was enough of a tell that death was absolutely imminent for those who wandered in without a plan. However, the murmurs of players everywhere was the necessity of a hard-mode completion to unlock the next floor which was the only way for them to actually get rid of this hellhole. Jason had never been a lemming his entire life, running off to wherever because it was expected but a rebellious courageous seemed to fill his earthen lungs. The soils of this virtual reality spoke to him, whether it be an unreliable narrator was another story, whispering to venture in and they would do their best to protect and gaia would bless him tenfold. It was a risk with so much in the real world going for him, he wished for protection from the universe, not that that sort of intention mattered in the realm of virtual reality.
Each step he took into the dungeon of the endless sent shivers down his spine due to the sheer cold of the floor. He tugged slightly on his novice cloak, a piece of fabric he used as a cape to help sustain warmth. He still couldn’t wait until he had enough money to dress warm, have enough flasks and also a mount that he could ride through. Caius, the great hornbill of his hated the cold as he used to more tropical temperatures. They had been getting along more which Jason was thankful for, despite it not mattering when the chilling cold would freeze them four times over. It wasn’t until this point did he notice the other who stood there casually figuring out where he was trying to go.
”You look lost, bruh.” Saleos chimed in, looking at the other once-over who seemed like a defense class. The Jungle Fury hovered over the other, reading Index’s class as a Paladin. A pretty straight-forward class in other RPGs, figuring a healing-tank might be the perfect way to get through a hard mode dungeon. ”I think the bosses are that way, or so I’ve heard. I’m only here to fuck with the hard modes though, you down, Index?” He asked, throwing a party invite over as a chilled wind whisked through brushing against the pages of his emerald tome, the spine slick with vines just waiting for their opportunity to strike.

Only a matter of time before Nexon had to come to here to make it further in the game. For a player as cocky as him, it took him a while to finally muster up the courage to walk through the gates of hell into death. No turning back now, only move forward was his current mindset. The dungeons were freezing, snow covering the ground and flakes mixing in with his black hair. It was his first and hopefully not last time being in the dungeons, unaware of the temperature in here. The Binder was completly shirtless . Even in a video game it still effected his body, everything felt so realistic to him to the point that maybe all of this was happening in real life.
His anxiety decreased after noticing two other players deciding to also take on the dungeons, at least he wasn't alone. The worst thing was to die with no one to tell his story of how brave and amazing a guy like Nexon was. How he slayed every beast in the dungeons before soon dying to the boss. "They say a cowards dies a thousand deaths. Is that how it goes? I don't really know." The Binder made his his over to the new players, help was needed in order to beat the dungeons. He was walking from behind the players while they had their conversation.
Before Nexon could open his mouth, he decided to shoot both of them party invites, closing his menu. It was an amazing introduction. Nexon's feet pushed against the snow, causing a sound to make him noticeable from behind and ruin his introduction. "No mames. People call me Nexon, but you guys can call me Reaper of the Sands. Maybe just Nex." His eyes moved up and down to analyze the two players he's never seen before, it was risky to tag along with players that he had no information on. "I'm going to assume you guys have already prayed. There's a 99.99% chance we might live. Nexon's aid as he inhaled for suspense, always trying to be extra. "BUT! We can ride that 0.01% all the way to victory." Nexon even convinced himself that he could survive the dungeons without dying, what a player. His fists clenched, eager to find the bosses and defeat them. Hard mode right? It's on for me lmao all my friends are dead push me to the edge index saleos

His mind wandered, not really focusing on anything but the path in front of him. He was alone, with no one to take care of him in case he fucks up. Extra caution was needed to traverse the dungeon, though he supposed that was the whole point of this excursion - to personally gauge for dangers and hazards before attempting a second run. Hopefully, there will be and that this wouldn't be his last one.
The sudden voice took him by surprise, making him grip his sword tighter before relaxing and turning around. "Erm, lost? I guess you can say that." In a sense, he wasn't sure of what he should be doing inside the game. The dungeon run was just him trying out other areas of the game, basically. On the other hand, he legitimately did not know much about the area's layout and would end up lost eventually if he wasn't stopped. "T-Thanks."
A screen prompting him to join a party followed soon after. Looking at Saleos' equipment, he just assumed him to be a mage. There were a lot of unusual classes in this game compared to the ones he played before, but at least they function similarly, where mages are still ranged damage dealers. "Hard mode's fine. I was planning on just snooping around the dungeon and not going too deep since I was alone, but this works just fine."
Before he managed to click accept, a new one emerged above the previous party invitation. "Nexon?" he read out loud, before the one who sent it showed himself. His introduction was unusual, though the title did present itself above his health bar along with his username. The title was familiar, but he paid it no mind at the moment. "I'll go with just Nex, then." He accepted the new invitation promptly, seeing no reason not to do so. "And that balances out the party, I think."

The chill began to feel like a comfortable home, a reminder of the realism of the game and that this entire venture would not be a walk in the park. Not that simple is what Saleos wished for but perhaps a log out button? Just maybe if he checked one more time it would pop up? The Jungle Fury searched his interface for what felt like the one thousandth time for a way to get out of the game to no avail. He wasn’t expecting much but he just had to try. ”There’s just no point in being pussies. We gotta just have faith but it doesn’t make sense to save when money is so tight, we just gotta go through with the danger.” It was almost as if he was hyping himself up more than trying to motivate his new partners who didn’t seem to need it much especially with a second invite combining the duo into a trio. ”Reaper of Sands, huh? Sad to say I missed it. How’d you get that title?” He asked curiously, hearing rumors of roulettes for titles but perhaps it was from a last hit off of a boss? Saleos didn’t have the patience to guess though, but it did provide some clarity for the other’s strength. He felt competent with the group that he had so far, expecting them to get far enough hopefully to finish this dungeon on hard-mode.
"Guess we're ready to go then, huh." he looked over at the group, twisting his head up to call Caius to scout for them what would be ahead. They had been working on their relationship and it wasn't all bad anymore, the connection of the jungle allowed them to speak to one another without having to literally speak. "Caius says if we go north there's a pack of arctic wolves, northwest has a couple of ice badgers and northeast a brown bear. Pick your poison, I think the brown bear might be the easiest to chain cc. I have a single CC spell but it doesn't work very well against multiple creatures." Sharing his opinion, waiting to see what the others thought.

Nexon shrugged his shoulders at the decision to just calling him nex, he didn't really mind. Although since he did went through a lot to earn the title so he should start using it more. The Binder would glance back and forth between the two, they really were a balanced out team. Like a team like this could raise the chance of them living to the end of the dungeon. Nex took a brief moment to stretch, preparing himself for combat. The worse thing that could happen was his partners die and left Nex alone to defend for himself, that's something Nex didn't want to happen. Usually a person wouldn't ask how strong they were, but he didn't really care. "You guys better be strong, I don't want to die because of you guys." The Binder crossed his arm, agreeing with what saleossaid about danger with a nod. While on the other hand, in the eyes of Nex Index seemed like a wimp. He could be wrong, judging a book by it's cover usually get people killed.
"It was a boss event against this crazy sand monster thingy, apparently I did the most damage to it to kill it. I should buy some desert themed armor to fit the title." Just mentioning his title boosted his ego even more than it was before, made him feel like he's better than everyone else. If it wasn't for him theynprobably would've all died to Setesh.l, at least that's what he thought. A single eyebrow raised at the sight of one of his partners calling a creature to go scout the area for them in search of nearby monsters, which could be useful to the group. The Binder scratched under his chins, thinking about the options they had to choose between. It was only fair that each of them should split up. "Are we splitting up to separate monsters or just all attacking one monster at once until we beat all three? I don't really mind which one we take. By the way, with my class I can round up multiple targets to bind for you to use that spell." His brown eyes shot back to Index, waiting for his say in the decision. "Also we should get to know each other classes, I'm a Binder class. I use chains to bind down targets." Nexon smirked. 2/10 Hard mode index saleos

He watched Saleos call what seemed to be an exotic bird and used it to scout the next portions of the dungeon. Index didn't know much about birds, but he was sure that it doesn't fit the snowy theme of the floor. His eyes followed it subconsciously as it flew overhead and went further from them, only to get called back to reality once Saleos spoke. He wasn't even sure if it was really reality or if it just has benn one long dream. Dying in this world would be one way to prove it, but it was one gamble he wasn't volunteering to take.
"The bear might be the better choice, yeah. I have a knockback for that cc chain if we can time it well." He wanted to take more crowd control skills during character creation, but the heals were too good to ignore. "Even without crowd controls, I think maintaining aggro on a single enemy is easier than on a pack." Whatever makes his job easier was better. Besides, larger enemies give away better exp in most games that he played.
Index flinched when Nexon shifted his attention to him, easing up the second later with a hand already on the back of his head. "Er, just tell me where you need me to do my stuff. I'm a Paladin. I face-tank and can heal stuff, I guess. Pretty generic defender things." He couldn't really find the words to make his class much more interesting when it's been one of the most used archetypes in RPGs. He liked the class though, regardless of whether or not he fit the bill for the role.

"we'll go north-west, then." he chimed in, looking over at the paladin and the binder (which sounded incredibly kinky but he didn't want to chime in with that tidbit of information in case that left him in some miserable dungeon with this dude who looked less than friendly. "i'm a jungle fury." not that those two words combined meant anything to anyone other than himself. "i'm basically a mage but I think I become a bruiser at some point. Typical mage-like spells with a companion which is why I have my bird up there. I think at level 3 I get a second companion, and a spell to use them in combat but right now he's just my eyes in the sky." Giving an adorable little shrug, liking that they all had some sort of crowd control to really turn this into a winning scenario.
"Don't worry. I'm not weak. I think we got a good group here." His words were quickly interrupted by the familiar sounds of a roaring bear. Saleos looked around, still blanketed in just snow. He hadn't seen a damn bear no where. "Am I losing my mind or is that noise coming from fucking nowhere?"

The Binder sighed, he would rather have them follow his orders and split up to take down the monsters but if taking down one at a time all together then he has no choice but to agree. Nex would squint his eyes, the snow around the area making them very uncomfortable. He doesn't even remember the entrance to the dungeons, maybe the gates close up and don't open until they defeat a boss. The boss was going to be the most exciting part of the dungeons, even if they die to the boss. It's worth sitting on their ass all day and not taking risk. The reaper's attention went back to the paladin as he explained his class, which could help them. Nexon rarely seen defender classes to pair up with. "Good, we have a defender. You're going to be useful kid, congratulations. Just make sure I don't die before you do, that's what defenders are for. Hehe.." Nexon was more of a strategic player than anything, using his brain to overcome whatever tough situation the game throws at him.
Half of his focus was now on the jungle fury, a class which Nexon had never heard of before in his life. Broken war was one of the most creative mmorpg game made. The developers probably added more than one million classes to chose for more diversity. "alright, you're mage. Make sure you cover me in attacks and also don't let me die either. I'm not fucking die here today." Before Nexon could go on about his rant about how both of his partners to make sure he live was cut off by a loud roar from a bear. His instincts kicked in, tensing his muscles into a battle ready stance. The Binder concentrated hard to pinpoint the source of the roar, but it was hard to tell with the snow all around the ground. "It's probably a bear with white fur hiding in the snow. don't worry I have a skill that acts as a threat detector in which class I bind them." Nex wasn't sure his hypothesis was right, but it was the only thing he could come up with the tension in the air. index saleos3/10 Hard mode

He managed to ignore Nex questioning their strength and giving him merits only for being a tank, though he wasn't sure about getting called a kid. Whether he was deliberately acting high and mighty or not, Index was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He has a title after all, which may indicate his skill, if not higher stats than many other players. As long as he brings good results and gets carried by Nexon in this dungeon run, Index wouldn't pay attention to it much.
Roars were heard in the middle of their talk. His eyes joined the other two searching for it, but to no avail. Bears weren't supposed to be sneaky and its booming roar proved it. The more he thought about it, the more he realized what Nex said made sense. His hands gripped his sword intently, backing up to get closer to the party. It wasn't smart to get too far from them as a tank when they do not have the enemy's exact location yet.
It wasn't long before the brown bear revealed itself to them, targeting the frailest member of their party with a pounce. It sprung from the snow, somehow managing to ambush them, and pounced at Saleos with claws extended and teeth bared. "I got this." His legs quickly brought him between the mage and the bear as he readied his attack. Biting his lip, he held his sword overhead and released it straight to the bear with a swing, akin to a baseball bat. The impact knocked the bear back a few feet away, giving time for them to reposition.
Unfortunately, the bear recovered much faster than Index anticipated. After it got back up, the lumbering animal charged straight at him. At least he got the aggro now. Using his sword as a makeshift shield against the attack, he parried a swipe before the bear used its weight against Index. Throwing itself against him, Index found himself underneath the bear with only a sword between him and its mouth. "H-Help?"

There was something so incredibly taxing about the way Index spoke but that didn’t mean that the other didn’t have incredible tactical prowess and a desire to get out of this game. Saleos began to separate personality from usefulness to escape and damn did Index, reaper of the sands seem to know what he was doing.
The bear’s mighty growl started the Jungle Fury, his eyes finally catching up with the brown-fured monster as he began a charge over to Saleos, a slight moment of fear as Index, his wonderful paladin friend saved him from the fray with a taunt-like move. ”Thanks Index!” He called out, the tank giving Saleos some time to truly build up what he thought was needed to be done while allowing Saleos to back up and give them all some space.
”Here you go.” The mage called out, throwing his emerald tome out in front of him casting an incantation for HEED THE JUNGLE’S CALL! as jungle vines began to grow from the icy earth piercing though with only the tenacity of the jungle, wrapping themselves against the legs of the bear trying it’s best to sap health along with control the bear’s movements. For now, and until the bear used his strength to break out, it seemed like their enemy was trapped.

Thoughts raced through the Binder's head as the enemy finally revealed itself. It was the brown bear the bird spotted earlier, deciding to attack them first instead of the other way around. There's no way he would let a CPU fool his head, thinking up a plan in the dire moment of their situation. As soon as his tattoos began to swirl around his body, activating the effects of his passive once the brown bear was in range, the defender did what his class did best and defended saleos from getting hurt. Nexon eased down, assuming the paladin had it all under control on handling the bear. At first it seemed like index had the upper hand until the brown bear managed to throw it's weight on the boy on top of him, trying to bite.
"Really, kid? You had one job. One damn job!" There wasn't that much faith in his teammates' ability from the start, now it's just decreasing even more. Nexon was more worried about his teammates getting him killed more than his teammates dying. The chains were ready to act now in order to bind the bear. Everything was getting worse until paleos stepped up to be the first to save the paladin, with Nex following behind. The vines from the ground impressed Nexon, so much that an idea popped in his head. The tattoos converted into six chains, peeling off his body in order to bid the bear. The chains were aimed at the brown bear's arms. Once the arms were behind together, as fast as possible the binder would lean back to drag the bear with as much strength as possible. With the vines stopping the bear from fully being dragged, it was basically dangling over the paladin about two feet between them. "You're in a vulnerable spot, kid! Stab it's guys until it's health bar drop, don't lose focus!" Their chances of winning went up, now that the enemy was completely immobile and unable to attack, and one of their partners were close enough to harm it. Worst case scenario possible was index messing up this perfect chance. 4/10 Hard mode index saleos

Not long after he asked for help, he felt the force exerted by the bear to his sword gradually decrease until he realized that the large animal was hanging right above him. Vines kept the bear in place while chains lifted it just above him. He could hear Nex barking at him for whatever reason, though he couldn't concentrate on comprehending the exact words given that it was some kinky act that they're doing with the animal. "Guys, I'm not into bondage. Especially with bears." At he very least, he got the gist of the command.
Regaining his composure, he drew his sword back before piercing it straight to the exposed portion. With one swift motion, he inserted the blade into the beast's stomach and then out. His build did not have much damage and relied completely on weapons until he gets offensive skills from further levels. Unfortunately, his current weapon was also trash. His sword went in and out of its guts, coupled with a few left and right swipes. "I don't have it. Damage, I mean." It should be obvious that a utility tank can't have it all, unfortunately.
He dragged himself out of the bear's shadows, unsure of his party's skills's duration. As soon as he regained his footing, he went to the bear's sides and kept striking. The large animal's above average defensive stats and his low damage output spelled problems, but it has to go down eventually.
