I AM THE BONE OF MY SWORD. STEEL IS MY BODY AND FIRE IS MY BLOOD.
[attr="class","monsterexo"]Saloons were pretty scuzzy places -- at least, that's the impression Kenshi was given when he first studied about them in history classes. Apparently, a lot of the American West's expansionism owed its success to the operation of these bustling taverns and hotels, and many of them even operated as makeshift brothels for folks with... other needs that required 'attention'. As night fell over the desert settlement of Fool's Errand, its biggest saloon was going wild with anticipation for the event that was about to take place in the main lobby as players and NPCs alike gathered by the droves to witness several folks -- the dark-skinned Edgemaster included -- seating themselves at a circular table. A poker tournament was about to unfold. If more context was needed, it was part of the "High & Low" quest, one Kenshi had yet to claim the rewards for. Thankfully, combat wouldn't be part of the equation this time around. Assuming nobody lost their cool over a bad hand, that is. [attr="class","sp1-container"] [attr="class","sp1-header"] [attr="class","sp1-p"]Ask Keira how to code a working program with innuendos, she could do. Tell her to join a poker game and look like she actually knew how to play, she could not. Still, the reward for this quest was a pretty nice sum of money, and lucky for her, she didn't have to win to complete the quest. Which was dandy because she had lost her first match so royally to the training bot. Get it? Royal flush. Jokes aside, the engineer still had to sit in the actual tournament and finish it—now as a spectator—to be able to claim the reward.[break][break]There were plenty of people around, and everyone was shouting out their excitement. The engineer would do the same if only she knew how this game even worked. It was more awkward for her to stay here since she was at the very front of the crowd, looking as bored as an angsty teen forced to mingle with the house guests.[break][break]She notices a dark-skinned male with white hair looking like he's about to slay a quest boss. It's either he's really good at poker, or was taking that monster-slashing energy with him into a card game. Whichever it was, he looked like he'd be interesting to watch. Keira presses a few buttons here and there, and voila! She sent him a whisper saying, "[attr="class","sp1-str]good luck lmao." It might be because of the drinks she had an hour ago, or she was just in the mood to be a social little shit. I AM THE BONE OF MY SWORD. STEEL IS MY BODY AND FIRE IS MY BLOOD.
[attr="class","monsterexo"]A block of text entered the lower-left corner of his vision. It was a blessing of fortune, for want of a better way to put it, and from somebody with the handle redherring. Kenshi glanced around to try and find the player in question, succeeding a few seconds later as he picked out the name hovering over a crowd of onlookers. Without the slightest reaction, the Edgemaster returned his attention to the table as more players gathered to participate in the tournament. He was here to play, not to socialize. But, rather than leave the fiery-haired woman hanging, he returned the whisper with one of his own: Thanks.
A total of nine other individuals arranged themselves around table, chatting amongst each other while they gathered their thoughts in preparation for the high-stakes game of strategy and chance that was about to take place in a matter of moments. All of them ignored the silent Kenshi, though a few of them gave the swordsman a curious glance or raised a brow, as he was dressed for the part of a brutal melee rather than a cordial card game. Kenshi closed his eyes in meditation, concentrating on the silence of his inner mind. Within a few minutes, the game would start. [attr="class","sp1-container"] [attr="class","sp1-header"] [attr="class","sp1-p"]Keira didn't expect for such a serious-looking guy to bother sending a response, so when he did, she nearly laughed. This was definitely the alcohol messing her up. It takes her a while to get a grip and really look at the players seated around the table. They mostly looked like they knew how to play this game, some looking like the stereotypical sleazy guys that play dirty. Then again, they say never to judge a book by its cover. The engineer takes puts her attention somewhere else, this time on the spectators nearest to the players. There was something odd about a few of them, glancing at one another. It raised a yellow warning in her head but only when the game begins would she be sure of her guess. What does she know? She's drunk.[break][break]A few minutes later, the tournament was about to begin, a countdown appearing at the center of the table. The numbers were bold and bright, bulbs of light flashing different colors. When the word 'start' vanished, a gift box appeared on top of the table. It rattled and jumped until the ribbons untied themselves, and confetti and trumpet noises came bursting out, along with a busty dark-skinned blonde in a tight-fit dress shirt and vest, slacks for trousers, and closed heels for shoes. The crowd bursts with screaming, shouting, and whistling. The dealer floats towards her chair, and officially, the match begins. "[attr="class","sp1-str]So d'ya know what you're doing? >:^)" she asks. If he thought the first whisper was the last, he was wrong.
