Round two is a go.
His last dungeon run didn't... go so well. It had been so long since it happened that he had successfully forgotten how it ended. At least he was alive after the ordeal. The thought of trying to run solo once again crossed his mind, but better judgement had him waiting for a companion to aid him this time. He already had gotten in and out of it once before, when he had less gear and levels nonetheless. Part of him was confident enough to enter the dungeon doors alone, though if he was to talk about safety, going in alone wasn't particularly that.
He sat by one of the benches in front of the entrance, scrolling through the lfg tool to see if others were up for a run. Upon finding none, he issued one of his own. He thought of sending Cat a message since he did offer help to him before. Getting in a dungeon seemed much more dangerous than bounties however, and that alone prompted him to reconsider. This was fine, he thought. Surely, there were others with lots of free time that could accompany him inside the dungeon. 'i can tank/heal' he added to his wanted ad.

[break][break] After her.. aborted dungeon run - they didn't even make it through the doors before one of them got cold feet and ran off - she had been aching for it. It was like a delicious appetizer, just sitting there, ready to be devoured. And yet she couldn't touch it, not at all. It was maddening, even more so then her class and it's natural obsessive nature. And so, she had been sniffing around, watching and waiting. None of the groups that formed and went in were open. It bothered her - why did people hate having open parties? Yet they did, and so she had to lie in wait. Perhaps, one would note how she had managed to get that function to work despite her lack of knowledge on how to make things work. [break][break] She has no clue either. [break][break] It was sheer luck that she had figured it out - and even more so when she saw a little thing pop up. An open dungeon... and immediately, her face perked up. She knew that name! The woman didn't hesitate, as her steps brought her towards the entrance. Would the child remember her? Would he even like her help? She had hesitations about all of it, and yet she couldn't find it in herself to not try. After all, she had remembered their quest, and someone she already knew was always a boon. So the woman arrived, her face lighting up the moment she saw the boy. [break][break] ''Hello dearie! I am here to help you, if you would have me.'' she said, smiling gently at him.[break][break] index[break] hardmode :: 1/8[break]I'm totally ok with a hardmode btw hope you don't mind it's me again! He wasn't sure how long he should be waiting to get requests for a group like this to be accommodated, especially a dungeon run, though it looked like he doesn't have to wait long. A familiar voice greeted him as he spammed the refresh button for the lfg tool on his user interface. He lifted his face from the screens and greeted the older woman with a smile. "Oh, hello ma'am! Of course I would." And here he was, wondering what he'd do if it were some random stranger. At least that's one worry that he won't be minding for now.
Closing the existing screens of his interface, he stood up from his seat and sent a party invitation to the syntexis. He knew how she fought from the quest they had together, with Index being able to adjust to her liking in case she went ham. He'd prefer it if she did honestly, considering it was the one thing he lacked. As he waited for her to accept his invitation, he opened his inventory to equip himself for the dungeon. "I didn't know you were into dungeons though," he mentioned, as he wore the prize they won on the quest they took together as a corsage. "Ready when you are."

However, since I have no guild and no steady party, it's a bit difficult for me to find a group you see.'' she said, letting her head hang just a little to cover her eyes. She might feel ashamed, but in a way she was happy with her fate. Because it let her be here with this lovely child before her. [break][break] The stone at her neck gleamed red, even as she smiled. [break][break] ''And of course I am ready!'' she responded, heading towards the doors herself. With no hesitation, she threw them open, the cold wind blowing at her. It wrapped around her body, but lucky for her, her clothes covered enough so she didn't freeze. And then it was easy to step into the dungeon, knowing that the boy would follow behind her. The entrance would hopefully be safe, isn't that how some games go? She isn't sure, but a confident smile was on her lips, because she didn't dare doubt herself. The hug... he should have expected it, but he didn't. It gave him a smile similar to hers though. Working with someone he already knew was better than supporting strangers whose skills he wasn't familiar with. Even if he wasn't being too technical about it, he'd still rather have Meatpie in the party. "I'm in the same boat, so don't worry about it too much." It was his method of cheering her up, seeing as she had her head down. For someone nice to him, he wanted to do the same, though her next actions made it seem like it wasn't needed. Maybe he was overthinking about it.
He heaved a sigh as older woman got back to business and led the two of them to the dungeon's entrance. Index knew what would happen once she swung the gate open, yet he couldn't help but wince once the frigid winds touched his skin. Maybe he should have packed more cold-resistant clothing for the occasion. Before he knew it, he was already lagging behind the Syntexis. Hasting his pace, he matched his steps with Meatpie and walked beside her. There was no use for a defender in the backline in times like this after all.
Snow was all he could make out of the landscape. Even if there were landmarks, they deemed to be unremarkable for his eyes to make much of a difference. "Hey," he called, trying to break the ice, "Which direction do you think should we head to? I... didn't last long last time I was here." Dungeons tend to be procedurally generated anyways, so it wasn't like they'd knew where each path led to.

[break][break] He had tried, but she was woman enough to not let her feelings get in the way of what she had to do. It was with a long seated practice that she had easily brought back her veneer of cheer and motherly calm. Yet, it had touched her that he had wanted to cheer her up, even knowing how twisted her abilities could be. Perhaps there was a place for her here, in this world. Even though it seemed like often enough she was left to her devices, with nothing to do. Oh well, it could be worse, she assumes, even as the cold air wraps itself around her body. She could be freezing to do death right now. [break][break] Before her, there was a beautiful snowy landscape. It made her ache, as she wanted to see children playing and laughing in the snow. As it was, it was almost a picture perfect place, but yet she knew that there was plenty of danger here. Tilting her head around, she simply hummed to herself, taking in the boy's words. ''Yes, yes of course... at least you attempted the dungeon, which is better then nothing!'' she said, wanting to encourage him. After all, what she said was true. But looking to where the door was, she looked back into the snowscape, and could see some sort of different paths one could take. [break][break] ''Hmm... forward, I think. It would be best to be careful however, I get a vast feeling of danger here.'' she said softly. Her gaze turned to him, her face still slightly smiling although she was serious. ''So stay close dearie, alright?'' she said. Trying to inject a positive note there at the end, she turned her attention back to the landscape before her. And decisively, she moved forward, carefully picking her path through the snow. Her pace wasn't fast nor hard, but just enough to still be moving forward whilst staying together. Something was bothering her about this place, and she couldn't quite put her finger on it. [break][break] Oh well, she was sure she would find out why soon enough. He nodded, following Meatpie's note about the danger. Supposedly, he should be the one worrying about their safety instead of Meatpie should class roles be considered. Given that the game shouldn't really be considered a game though, he appreciated the precaution she has. He has survived numerous situations that proved to be more dangerous than a trip to the dungeon's first floor, though that still does not warrant him to be too lax. Index already has better gear compared to the last time he was here, so he had that going for him at least.
The paladin walked in a comfortable distance from the syntexis; not too near as to invade personal space, but not too far that he wouldn't be able to defend her at moment's notice. When she mentioned danger, she wasn't the only one thinking of it. Index knew they'd eventually encounter some dangerous beast as they press on and venture deeper. Howling from a distance could be heard from their positions, and who'd know if the wolves were already organizing themselves to launch an attack on the two of them. He recited a silent prayer in his head as he readied the axe on his hand in case of an attack.
"They're getting closer. This should be easy, right?" After all, he couldn't think of anything more challenging that the one they fought at that certain quest on a ship. The howls stopped at a point, being replaced by the sound of paws scuffling on snow. Index couldn't see any animal around, though they did made their presence known.

The darkness that her class brought upon her, the heat of battle an all consuming rage that might overwhelm those that held no inner strength. She was a strong woman of course, but many would not use that word to describe her. Creepy, obsessed, overtly protective perhaps. "Invisible wolves? Please no..."
In preparation for a sudden attack from a pack, Index inched himself closer to Meatpie. The wolves haven't even made an advance yet even as Meatpie threw a knife to the snow. If they were looking for an opportunity to find their guards lowered, Index had to make sure that the initiative wouldn't be theirs. While he couldn't deny the fact that the wolves probably had them pinned down as their targets to prey at, it was also a fact that the paladin was sure that they can overcome this predicament with his skills.
"I've learned useful skills since the last time," he told her much like a kid trying to brag to his mom. "Watch this." Holding his hand upwards, he conjured a sphere of light across his fingertips, pulsing once across the area and bringing a literal spotlight to him. The taunt from the skill brought two wolves running at him at first, with the third one following ways back. They weren't invisible, but too white for his liking instead. "I guess they just blended well with the snow." He set up a barrier from his Cover skill in front of him, anticipating the wolves to ram their selves onto it once they reached them.

[break][break] He was just like her boys. When they wanted to show her something, when they wanted her to be proud of them. Her eyes watched him, even as he showed a new skill he didn't have before. With a soft hum, she nodded to him, even as his skill revealed the monsters near them. The pawprint had been a diversion, the knife having hit naught. ''Oh dear, they're rather sneaky wolves aren't they?'' she said softly, even as they ran towards the pair. She could even see movement of a third in the distance. ''Well, let's stain them so that they no longer blend well.'' she said. Her face still held a soft smile, even as she felt it rise within her. [break][break] Thump, thump. [break][break] Both of the wolves had ran into his barrier, and were reeling from the impact. Without hesitation, Meatpie darted out from behind the boy, her hands holding a pair of forks. Swinging, she unleashed two strikes - one barely hit, whilst the other sank into one of the wolves. It howled in pain, and she didn't hesitate. The second fork suddenly stabbed into the wolf's leg, the second one darting away. She went to her knees, and her gaze looked behind her. ''That was perfect! Keep an eye on the two others, I'm going to use that skill~'' she said. She didn't have to explain which one either, which is probably what made her happiest. [break][break] After all, he had seen her consume the Kraken and become an Elderitch horror, and still he did not run. [break][break] That made her love him even more. Meatpie was one that was sensitive to what others thought of her, to a degree. Everyone was a child to her, and she treated them as such. But not in a way that was arrogant, no. She just unconditionally loved everyone that would let her do so. She wanted to take care of them, to help them. Yet, her role was one of attacker - she had never been one for sitting back and healing or for taking the hits for everyone else. She might want to protect the darlings, and the best way to do that is to kill what wants to hurt them first. Her head swayed, and then she opened her mouth. [break][break] Her jaws curled around the wolf's leg, and bit deep into it. The creature let out a whining sound of pain. And yet, she couldn't stop now - no, the boy before her needed her protection, and she would burn the world to do so. Jerking her head, the flesh was ripped off and she chewed it, swallowing. And she could already feel it in her body, even as her eyes started to glow. DEVOUR had been activated, and she would be able to help even better now. Her lips curved into a grin, revealing that her teeth had already begun to transform, looking more wolf-like by the second. [break][break] None would hold her back now. The wolves did ram themselves to his cover, not unlike those dogs from the real world that couldn't distinguish glass from air. A faint smile happened on his lips, though his attention was quickly swept away with Meatpie acting quick. Cutlery pierced against the hides of the animals before Index even recognized it, with welps and cries filling the otherwise quiet dungeon floors. One quickly left while the other was quickly incapacitated with the wound inflicted by a fork on its leg. At least they were a step closer to conquering this encounter.
The older woman proceeded to approach the fallen wolf. "That skill..." he repeated. He knew exactly what was going to happen next considering their last quest together, and though it had been unsightly, Index recognized how useful for Meatpie it would be for her to use it. "I'll cover for you, then." The two other wolves completely hidden themselves once again in the snow. Raising his left hand, he brought an overwhelming amount of light from his hand to the surrounding area, activating his Sanctify skill. It didn't stain them much like Meatpie did, but it did stop them from moving.
A yelp did come from behind Meatpie. The stunned wolf had stopped on its tracks, with intentions of clearly taking advantage of Meatpie getting distracted. "There! Index had no idea of where the other one was though. Sprinting forwards, he swung his axe upwards, throwing the animal a distance away as well as cutting its stomach deeply. "I, uh, lost the other one though."

[break][break] ''No worries, you did your best, that's all anyone can ask for.'' she said. But her voice wasn't her normal soft tones. They were rough, coloured by her eating the wolf. She lifted her head, tilting it to the side, before she grinned again, the sharp teeth gleaming. ''I've found it~'' she said in a near singsong. Leaving the one wolf stabbed into the ground, the woman was moving with lupine grace, her hands suddenly striking at seemingly thin air. But the yelp that came out of that air was the reveal. A wolf had been there, and now it fell to her hands, even as she wrestled it to the ground, and bit out it's jugular. That was enough to kill it, even as it slowly dissipated into pixels. However, before it fully vanished, the woman took one of it's legs with a sickening wrench. [break][break] She then put it on her back, just before it shattered. [break][break] ''That's two down... do you think we should hunt down that third or just move on whilst we're free?'' she asked the boy. Of course, as she asked she had returned to the first victim, wrenching off two legs from this one as well as it dissolved into pixels. Picking up her weapon, she now had three wolven legs on her back, kept by her devour ability. After all, to use it she needed to eat consistently. Wrenching a bite off, she kept it in her mouth even as she could feel her fingernails become claws, and her hair grow much longer then it used to be. But her face was still kind, if one discounted the teeth and the unusual amber shade her eyes had taken. [break][break] ''After all dearie, you seem to get the best ideas.'' she said, smiling at him. And she meant it too, after all how many people would protect her as well as he did? She had met none, and so, to her he was such an accomplished child. She wanted to cherish more and more, but for now she had to make sure to protect him. After all, the dungeon wasn't even close to done, considering her now enhanced senses were picking up on something unusual in the distance. [break][break] It would be a challenge, but she was ready for it.
