The heat is stifling, suffocating, it bears weight down on anyone who enters prepared or not. It's no different for Riley, each step through the sands sinks in taking twice the effort to lift her foot up and sink it down into the sand toward her destination. The ratty cloak she wears keeps most of the direct sunlight off but it doesn't actually help with the heat. It's dry and each breath is difficult to take in yet she pushes forward with pursed lips and lidded eyes. A hand to raise against the sun as she looks toward her destination; it's not far now.
The ruins scatter in the distance and it's where her destination takes her - rumors of something bad have always been within. However, there's been a new spark among them; someone went in and hadn't come back yet. Though she didn't know the person, nor whether they were alive or not the threat remained - someone went in and didn't come out. Which meant danger, which meant people getting hurt and it didn't sit well with Riley to leave it alone; not when she could try and do something, to help. Maybe the person was still alive there, lost, confused - she didn't want to leave it alone, her nights were plagued enough with failures she didn't want another one to be because she turned away.
Tugging down at the hood of her ratty cloak to help keep the sun away from her face, she finally felt the solid ground beneath her feet. Hefting up from the sands and onto the solid ground for once. Stopping only briefly to shield her eyes from the sun as she looked up, the crumbling ruins were a sight to behold even from a distance. Up close they were something else entirely, perhaps she should have taken more precautionary measures, more equipment, but it was too late to turn back now. One hand moving to the hilt of the greatsword on her back to reassure her of its presence, of her method to fighting-protecting. A steady breath past her lips and she takes another step forward, dropping her hands to her side as she slowly makes her way to its entrance and into its unknown.

the desert had always been, ultimately, unpleasant. for skadi, at least, there was the difference of her permafrost coating the air in chill, but the difference in temperature could still be felt in dione. skadi could not say she liked it. still, she had heard whisper of something dangerous, and a bounty had been posted with little information aside from the location. as long as it didn't turn out to be a mere pest problem, skadi was looking forward to the bounty.
specifically, the new kind of challenge.
the moment she and anya made it into the carverns, she suspected her ability would win out over the heat of the desert outside. caverns tended to be cooler to begin with. she frowned when she caught sight of a single figure heading towards the mouth of the cave, glancing them up and down before calling out to the girl. "are you here for the bounty?" it was a simple question, straight to the point. she did not hesitate to move forward while she waited, of course; there was no reason for them all to bake in the heat while they exchanged words. dismounting from her kitsune, she glanced once at anya before moving into the cool.

[attr="class","bang"] [attr="class","bangimg"] [attr="class","bangtext"]as much as she enjoyed bounties like any other bounty hunter, this time, she wasn't so thrilled. the setting was for once, not the issue. her gecko proved useful for absorbing the heat of dione's sun as she traveled with saskia on her kitsune's back all the way to some cursed area. she was by no means superstitious -- just grumpy. rather than leave the monster to some other player, her girlfriend had insisted that they should personally deal with the pain in the ass. the woman groaned as soon as the caverns had come into sight and the moment they were in front, anya was the first to get off the mount.
"i'll catch up later, going to take this stupid thing around and see if it's here--" the slayer winced right after she had finished her sentence, her pet began to wail like a siren. like usual, it was alarmed that there was a stranger in close proximity and instead of approaching, she had decided to stay back to let saskia do the talking. "please make her join the party; threaten her if you have to," anya pleaded. she waited impatiently for the stranger to join, waving awkwardly from where she stood. "he's just scared of everything!" she called out.

The unrelenting wave of heat eased a bit the moment she stepped into the entrance, the shade providing a momentary relief from the onslaught of the sun. The dry heat giving way to the cool musky smell of the ruins, a mixture of dust among other unpleasant things that made her nose itch. The wind whipping against the cave entrance howled slightly and had she not been paying attention the shuffle of movement through the sand may have gone unnoticed, one hand reaching back toward the hilt of her blade as she turned to face the entrance to see the others arriving.
Riley hadn't expected to be the only one after the bounty, nor had she wanted to be; mostly because the bounty wasn't her goal. Helping people and getting rid of the things inside were, so when two women - very beautiful ones - rode into view and one dismounted making her way out of the heat and promptly asking her a question; Riley didn't hesitate to respond. "I am," she confirmed, jumping with a start and a wince as the other one who fell back's mount wailed like a siren.
Had their arrival not been noticed by whatever lurked in the cave, it sure was likely to now. The wails reverberating off the walls and echoing further in, so when the party request popped up it was quickly accepted - hoping it would ease the creatures discomfort and fear. "I'm Sovereign," she introduced, holding a hand out to Skadi as her username gave way once their party was confirmed.
"If you're after the bounty as well.. I would enjoy the company." Because the reward wasn't what she was after, it was the desire to help that drove her forward. Regardless if NPCs were real or not, it was something to strive for, to help others. Once Seneca calmed her own beast and entered the cave, Riley moved to introduce herself to the woman as well, a small thank you on her lips for partying up with her.

tSkadi tried to keep an even expression when Anya's pet began to scream at the offense of an unfamiliar player. Why it did that, she didn't know, but given recent events, it seemed all too fitting for the pale woman. It just further reinforced the idea that she should invite the woman to the party all the more quickly, in hopes that it would calm the thing down. Honestly, it was never certain. Skadi glanced over her shoulder at Anya, still on her kitsune, but she wasn't worried. The woman had never turned down a fight yet, and as soon as she dismounted to follow, skadi's unnamed kitsune would disappear back into her inventory.
"I am Skadi." She announced smoothly, "This is Anya." She glanced up ahead. "The element of surprise isn't on our side. We'd best get started." She announced, moving forward into the tunnels to lead the way. There were tales of hauntings here, cursed soil. If what they were looking for could be fixed with an exorcism, Skadi might be in trouble. Her heart was set on something she could fight. She wanted a challenge, yes, but she didn't want something she couldn't fight at all.
There was only one way to find out exactly what was waiting for them. "I am a defender, so I can lead," She explained as she glanced over her shoulder before turning her eyes back up ahead. So few had taken the class type that she had simply assumed sovereign wouldn't be one. "What is your class like, if you don't mind?"
