Miners loved their hidden treasure and Blank couldn't say that he wasn't on the same page as they were. However, he wasn't keen on going into a place called the "Bottomless Cavern" due to the 'bottomless' part of the name. If it was truly Bottomless then who knew what could come up and greet the wayward adventurers who dared to roam the world below. The thought crossed his mind a few times as he made his way through the Underworld. Dreary weather did much for the way of making someone think. Especially of the circumstances that led them to where they were. He couldn't imagine that many people would want to venture this far into Gargantua but he couldn't fill his journal without exploring. The quest was one that he found in one of the logs that he went through. Of course, the log belonged to someone who was no longer with them but that wasn't the point. It spoke of miners digging in the bottomless caverns and that they would need assistance with their cause. So, he decided to pitch in but hadn't understood what that meant in its entirety. While a beacon was sent to the sky informing others that the quest was being embarked on, he chose to take a seat outside of the caverns and give it a glance every so often. The mouth of a wet and dark cave stared back at him every time he looked and he hoped that by the time someone arrived, his resolve to embark wouldn't have waned. let's get down and dirty (jk :P)

It was amazing how calm people could be when a situation was simply too messed up for them to comprehend. Stubbed toe? People cried like it was the end of the world or something. Trapped in fantasy RPG land? Everyone was going about their merry way doing quests and shit. Incomprehensible! Well, that wasn't quite right either. It was totally comprehensible how people averted their eyes from reality: the question was merely of how long it would last. However, Nicaea could admit to himself that he was not exactly above the masses, seeing as the first thing he'd done after digesting the news was to try out his fortune telling skills. It was a shame he hadn't spawned with a Crowley-Harris Deck, but people would probably be more familiar with the Rider-Waite anyway. Apparently his fortune for the day involved new acquaintances, which was probably a good thing given the scenario. However, there was also a shady and unfortunate place involved, or something. Knowing what he did now, it would have been a good idea to Google Tarot meanings again or something...or just not have played the game. After being kicked out of some local gambling dens without much success, Nicaea decided that the next best place to look was the Bottomless Cavern. Sounded dreary enough to him. His divination seemed vindicated when he saw a quest marker go up. Increasing his pace to a light job, Nicaea arrived at the cavern mouth, seeing another garishly dressed dude with impossible hair. "Hey, did you have a quest you were going on? My reading for the day predicted that someone here might need help." Stretching the truth a tiny bit was also part of the fortune-telling profession. i'm here to help you plumb some depths! | Today's Reading: Lovers, Moon, Inverted Wheel ENEMY DETECTOR EMPTY |

Blank hummed a tune as he busied him himself with organizing the notes in his journal. It was a task to complete and one that he wasn't exactly happy about. In fact, the sheer amount of things that he didn't know was beginning to grow to be a bit of a problem. If he was to live in this world then it meant that he'd have to know more and understand more. But the dots that he was connecting only seemed to lead back to the same conclusion. A conclusion that he wasn't sure if he was ready to face especially with the way things were turning out as of late. A sigh almost escaped him only to be caught in his throat. In the back of his mind, he could recall someone telling him that sighing was releasing a bit of happiness. Therefore if you didn't do it then you could keep some of that happiness for later uses. But who was the one that told me that? The sound of approaching footsteps and inquiring words brought Blank's attention to an adventurer approaching him. He tilted his head to the side at the mention of "readings". At first glance, this person didn't look much like a scholar but looks could be deceiving. "You're a philosopher?" He asked. Blank stood up and patted invisible dust from his pants before turning to give the person his full attention. "My name is Blank, by the way."nicaea

Nicaea was pretty confused now. "No, are you a philosopher?" Was this going to be one of those 'quirky'-type players? All signs pointed to yes, especially given that handle. Well, nothing wrong with that; better than crying oneself to bed in a hotel room. "I'm Nicaea, I guess. I'm a fortune-teller...I guess." One's identity really got weird in a situation like this, but it would've felt just awkward giving out his real name now, after the other guy's introduction. "Uh, anyway," he continued, trying to get back on topic, "You here to do a quest here or something?" It would have been awkward if this 'Blank' guy actually wasn't, or if he'd already finished. How did fortune tellers handle a bad cold read, anyway? Well, he'd deal with that as it came. "I was hoping I might help out, although I guess I'm not super useful. Fortune telling ain't really a combat ability, sadly." Oh, how he wished to have chosen a different class now. He stared at the cave entrance dubiously, then back at Blank. Feeling a little awkward, he decided to just pause and hope the other person would fill him in a bit. Sometimes in games people would just walk away, but in-person that would have been simply devastating, at least to Nicaea. He wished the others were... Well, no, he didn't. That was an awful sort of thing to wish. i could never do cold reading. too tense. | Today's Reading: Lovers, Moon, Inverted Wheel ENEMY DETECTOR EMPTY |

A fortune-teller. Well, that was close enough to a phillosopher if one believed in fate and the existence of other entities which would change their destiny. However from the look of bewilderment on Nicaea's face and the rigidness in his posture he'd be left to assume that it wasn't exactly the case. If anything, the silence between them could start some degree of bad blood that he wasn't emotionally equipped to deal with at the time. Blank settled one hand on the hilt of his sword and rubbed the other through his hair. More words that he didn't quite understand but some of them were a little easier to figure out. "I am here to take the quest and find out more about the tunnel," he said. "And don't worry. I'm an Ace therefore I'll be there to defend you as long as you're around to support me."He pulled his hand away from the hilt of his sword to extend it to his newfound partner. A hopeful smile on his face as he waited for the greeting to be accepted or denied. From behind, he could hear the howling of wind rushing into the cavern. Even if they couldn't come to a consensus, they were both out for the same thing which made it that much easier to discern a point of agreement. nicaea

"An Ace, huh? I'll craft a fighter plane for you sometime, then." Obviously that wasn't the intended meaning, but Nicaea couldn't help throwing out a stray joke every now and then. What an odd class. Sounded like some sort of tanky class too, apparently. Well, by the looks of things, this was more of an exploration, so DPS probably wouldn't be too important, especially for these sorts of beginner quests. Right? Nicaea shook the outstretched hand with what he judged to be an appropriate degree of firmness. "Our fates are entwined then...or something like that. Let's get going!" Since Blank had indicated that he was bulky, Nicaea hung back slightly and waited for him to take the lead. Also, the fates had not exactly told him where they would be headed anyway, so there was that. "Oh, yeah, it'd be a waste if I didn't use a skill here. There's no table around, so, let's see..." A quick shuffle of the deck, a quick draw of a card, and... "The Devil, huh? Great, fantastic. Uh, let's see, I foresee chains of binding within your path. Let the fates bless you so that you may avoid this coming tragedy." He flashed the card once at Blank, causing the card and its target to glow briefly. "Not bad, right? Thought of that on the spot."a pox on all bind spells! hopefully there won't really be any | Today's Reading: Lovers, Moon, Inverted Wheel ENEMY DETECTOR EMPTY |

At the mention of a "fighter plane", Blank knew that he was lost once again in a sea of information that he wasn't sure of. But it made Nicaea happy so there was no sense in questioning it. Maybe they could discuss about it later on during their trek. He had to admit the idea of travelling with a fortune teller seemed far fetched enough for it to be a dream but Nicaea was standing right in front of him and believed their fates to be intertwined. Who was he to deny someone else? "I guess they are, yeah. Let's get a move on."
Before he could turn into the cavern, he heard the shuffling of cards and Nicaea saying something about using a skill. Blank looked over his shoulder and tilted his head to the side as his companion spoke. The Devil? His body glowed and the sensation felt like nothing that he'd ever experienced before. Sure, he glowed sometimes when it came to the heat of battle but nothing like this. Blank turned over his hands and stared at his fingertips as the heavenly glow died down leaving nothing but a remnant and a surge of power inside of him. Nicaea seemed proud of himself and Blank wasn't exactly sure what the nature of the card meant or what happened to him but it felt right. "Yeah, not bad at all."With that, he motioned for his companion to follow him into the caverns. He could hear dripping water and a howling wind from somewhere deeper inside. Wherever they were supposed to rendezvous with the miners, he hoped nothing would be down there with them. "Can you tell me more about the 'Devil' card?" nicaea

Descending into some "Bottomless Cavern" while talking about the Devil...yeah, that was definitely a fantastic time. It had been a while since Nicaea had read Inferno, and he found himself wondering if the game designers had read it either. Was there actually a bottom to the cavern somewhere? Or would it just be procedurally generated all the way down? Well, couldn't ignore the question at hand forever. "Let's see, The Devil, right?" Luckily, Nicaea had remembered a little about this card because it was one of the 'edgy' ones. "Well, most people would think bad stuff like evil or whatever straight off the bat because, y'know, devil and all. But some like to read into it more, like how the 'Death' card actually means 'change' and all that. Personally, I think the 'Devil' card represents being restrained. You can see here that the image on the card features bindings," he said, holding the card up for Blank to have a look. Though it was dark, the metal of the card seemed to catch light unusually well, making it at least somewhat visible. "Most versions have that motif as well.""The inverted Devil would mean losing control of your inner demons, I guess. Losing restraint and all that." Nicaea shrugged, feeling a little silly for having said all that. After all, he didn't really believe in this mumbo-jumbo back in normal life. "Well, yeah, that's that one. You into occult stuff? Palm readings or crystals or whatever?" The natural sounds of the cave made Nicaea wonder more and more why he was continuing with this line of conversation, and he consciously tried to relax his shoulders a little, with limited success. the google-sensei fortune-telling, mayo style | Today's Reading: Lovers, Moon, Inverted Wheel ENEMY DETECTOR EMPTY |

"So, you freed me from my restraints."He was feeling bogged down lately by unnecessary thoughts or maybe the thoughts were necessary but his feelings weren't. Whenever he thought about it, his judgement became clouded and hazy. It was hard to think. As if he was trying to summon a memory from deep down within himself that just wasn't coming out at all. Blank resisted the urge to breathe another sigh, whether it was for his companion's benefit or his own was unknown. "Well I feel a lot lighter already, thanks."In truth, he did feel lighter but something else felt off. The light was growing dim as they entered the caverns and only a few flecks of sunlight could enter from holes in the walls or from the entrance where they came. After his adventure with Wyrmtooth and Kingrex, he started to keep a crystal on him which glowed whenever he was immersed in darkness. He found it in another place just like this and took it with him. In a way, it felt as though it was calling to him. When he touched it, the words SOUL CRYSTAL reflected back at him. It was strange but felt at home on his person. Blank pulled the crystal from his robes and held it up so he could see further down the path they were headed. It diverged into two separate paths, one had a green rope tied around rungs and heading down farther than where the crystal's light would reach. The other didn't have any rope but there were scratch marks on the walls, deep engravings with paws that seemed much larger than their own hands and feet combined. "Which way do you want to go?"nicaea

Internally, Nicaea was wondering if he'd accidentally pulled off the fabled 'cold reading' or something like that. After all, most people tend to be 'restrained' by something in their lives, so it wouldn't have been too bad of a shot to have taken intentionally. He felt a ridiculous moment of pride which quickly went away. The appearance of a glowing light caused Nicaea to blink a few times before slowly looking back towards Blank. "You got a special item already? I guess this ain't your first time at the rodeo, huh? I haven't been on any of the quests yet, 'sides whatever we're doing now." As he jabbered on, the fortune-teller gave both paths a quick appraisal. Now that their lives were at stake, neither path was particularly appealing in all honesty. Furthermore, his morning reading had indicated some degree of fearful misfortune. In this case, he really did have to just put his trust into the Ace, in which case... "If you don't mind, let's go down the left path. Fighting some large monster is one thing, but a ladder leading to nowhere is quite the horrifying prospect, don'tcha think?" Nicaea was the sort of person that invested in government bonds: better the evil you know, even when it was obviously a poor choice. The miners were said to be somewhere within the bottomless caverns. However, what if they were attacked by something that lived inside of the caverns while they were here. Blank frowned as he inspected both of the pathways only to turn and address Nicaea for his opinion. Taking the lesser of two evils seemed like a good way to go, especially because they knew the nature of one or at least a good estimate of what it may hold. The other which was simply a green rope leading into the dark didn't seem as promising. Left or right?Nicaea was giving him the choice in which direction they'd go. He could only hope that his assumption wouldn't lead them down the wrong path. "Why don't we go the left route," he asked. "You're right. If we know or at least have a slight idea what we're up against, it'll be easier for us."With that being said, he took point and headed down the left route where the scratches seemed to disappear as they continued on but footsteps were embedded in the rock. On the right route where they speculated on going, the rope would slowly pull backwards into the abyss though no one could be seen holding on to the other end. nicaea
You're heading down the left route and as you go further, the scratches and marks on the walls lessen but there are footprints in the floor. Footprints much larger and less human-looking. If you turn back, you'll find that the rope on the right route is gone. Question is, who took it?

"One could also say that the left route is the sinister route," Nicaea remarked, in keeping with the rather dark tone of their conversation thus far. As they moved, he kept his hands on his cards, shuffling them nervously. Occasionally he would make a slip of the hand and the cards would clang together a mite too noisily for such a mission. All of a sudden, Nicaea stumbled, slowing a moment to catch his footing. He looked down and gulped, properly noticing the large footprint (which he'd accidentally stepped into) for the first time. "Whoa...that's big." Strangely enough, the thought made him somewhat more relaxed; it'd be hard to miss something so large between him and Blank, hopefully. "So what does an Ace do, anyway?" Now that combat was a very real possibility, it was only logical to get a feel for his party-mate's capabilities. Some of these classes were sort of non-indicative when it came to combat. Actually, Nicaea decided that his own class probably fell into that category after thinking it over again. At least this dude had a sword. It beat having no sword. The lack of a big tower shield or something was slightly concerning, but as long as Blank had some sort of protective skill that probably wasn't a necessity. colonel mustard in the kitchen with the candlestick | Today's Reading: Lovers, Moon, Inverted Wheel ENEMY DETECTOR EMPTY |

In between water dripping and the faint howling of wind through the tunnel, Blank couldn't be irritated with Nicaea's shuffling. There was something sinister about this route but they chose it, so whatever stood ahead was an obstacle. He heard Nicaea stumble and looked back only to shine the light of the crystal over a rather large footprint. That didn't look good and if he was to be honest, it was a little unnerving. This footprint is pointed in the direction where we came. Nicaea spoke to him but his words were muffled in Blank's ears. He tried to connect the dots. The rope, the footprints, the howling meant there was wind coming from somewhere else in the caverns. "An Ace is versatile, able to use any weapons that cross its path. We're defenders of our friend."Slowly, he stood to his feet and walked past Nicaea to examine the markings on the walls. Something didn't seem right. Everything was pointed away from where they were walking. "Whatever came through here was passing through, so we should be gone when it comes back."With that being said, Blank hurried down their path hoping that the howling sound he heard didn't mean something else. nicaea

"Passing through?" Nicaea looked down at the footprint, confused, before it finally hit him. "Oh...uh, yeah, let's get a move on." At that point, he was almost tempted to ask and take point since it seemed like there would be something frightful from the rear, but he didn't have a glowing flashlight crystal. Besides, that would have loomed pretty weak, even if Nicaea normally didn't care about that sort of thing. For a little while, he tried to remain quiet and keep vigilant. However, the cave noises and threat of a rear assault drove up his nervousness until the poor fellow couldn't help but start to jabber a bit. "So, you're a defensive type, right? Does that mean you have, like, defensive weapon skills or something?" A jack-of-all-weapons seemed more attacker-y than anything, but perhaps this was just some sort of niche build. Nicaea himself was no stranger to jank; building melee wizards in Dungeons and Dragons was his thing. After a while, something occurred to him. "You don't think there's, like, another exit up ahead do you? Kind of sounds like it, but..." Was it a bottomless cavern because the bottom was a hole? Sounded like the sort of crappy joke that murderous game devs would have thought up. The rabbit is the cavern! | Today's Reading: Lovers, Moon, Inverted Wheel ENEMY DETECTOR EMPTY |

The corridor that they traveled down seemed to stretch on for an eternity. He couldn't see any of the scratch marks on the wall any longer but there were a few imprints that he was keen on not stepping in. For awhile, their conversation was limited to breathing and Blank was left to think about what would happen. If something that large came back then it was only a matter of time before it found them. He could protect Nicaea from the beast with Invisible Air but how long would it last, how long would he last? His partner's questioning brought him back to reality and to the best of his abilities, he smiled. Though he couldn't make sense of most of what he was saying. Defense weapon-type skills? He'd only learned that he was a defender a little while ago. Any more than that was beyond his thought but the only abilities that he knew of were Mana Shield, Determination, Elemental Reel, and Invisible Air. "I guess you could say that," he said. "I can attract the attention of monsters and use elemental attacks to dispatch them."
When he said it out loud, it felt as though he was supposed to be more on the attacking end than defending. But he chose this class for a reason. What the reason was, he wasn't sure of. But as Nicaea proposed the idea that there was another exit, it only led him to think. What if the bottomless cavern was such because there was an exit at the bottom? Had anyone reached it before? "That's a possibility, I guess we'll find out though."
