He didn't really need whatever loot came from this bounty, but since he was already in Izanami, he might as well do it.
Index did not have much time looking around Kuniumi when it was first introduced to the playerbase, with the festival after the Otohime raid being the only occasion he found himself visiting the place. Returning to the area, he found himself in the city of Izanami. An oni called Kuchikukan was supposed to be found within the peaceful walls and eastern architecture of the city. Shame that there was a good chance to cause collateral damage to the otherwise beautiful settlement if they were supposed to fight that thing in here. He supposed doing just that did have its merits though.
The paladin already sent a request for assistance with the lfg tool, setting the meeting place to the garden he was in. An NPC did tell him that this was where the oni was last spotted after all. Hiding behind a pillar of a temple beside it, he could already see Kuchikukan's rather imposing figure. The darkness of the night would have made it difficult for him to handle the bounty, but fortunately, monks of the said temple maintained lamps for the garden. His fingers itched to test his weapon out, waiting for backup in case he couldn't handle the heavier variants. He wasn't physically strong in the real world to be confident with swinging his axe after all.

Humming gently as she walked down a path in Izanami, the aqua haired girl would finally spot the other person that she had decided to group up with, hiding behind a pillar. Wendy has previously been walking around the new area that had recently opened up to all players after the cleansing she heard was caused by some asshole of a dragon. But she didn't really know anyone that was in all the messed up chaos of its rage so she really had no care for those lives lost. Aside from all those thoughts of death, she was in a sort of bored mood. With all the new things they had to offer, it sure was boring just sitting walking around. That was when it hit her; with this new area, there's bound to be new quest up. And right she was, because as she pulled out her menu she had spotted an open bounty that happened to be right in the city she was walking through. After quickly accepting to invitation she would make her way to the area to meet up with the man she had been standing by while recollecting what had led her here. Smiling brightly she would look over the man and ask with a normal tone as she stood in plain sight."Whatcha doin' hidin' back there, friend?"

Index almost jumped when he heard Wendy's voice, with all the hype he was building for himself for the bounty dissipating as quickly. "I, uh, that." Sheepishly, he pointed out their target. Judging from the dim lighting he could get from the stone lanterns, it didn't seem that the oni has noticed them. Or maybe it was just a statue that looked like the Kuchikukan. It wasn't moving after all. Again, he did not know much about the place to know what was normal and what wasn't.
Peering out of the column and standing out in the open like Wendy, he strained his eyes to check if he wasn't just hallucinating. "Er, I think that's the Kuchi-something anyways." The figure was way out of the lanterns' lights for him to make the figure out more vividly, though the paladin always had a solution involving matters with lighting. Freeing his left hand temporarily from his axe, Index casted Sanctify to the garden and lighted the whole thing.
Among those that got hit was the figure he was pointing all along, which turned out to be the real deal. It started growling as the light scorched its skin, though being dazed meant it wasn't able to take action right afterwards. "That. I was hiding from that." He set up his cover skill as the Kuchikukan recovered from his stun. With someone else with him, at least he felt like he could start the fight now.

Instinctively going to cover her eyes as the skills light shone brightly, lighting the area, Wendy would squint a bit, making out the enemy plainly.
"Oh yea, there he is."
Activating Discord on the Kuchi-whatever, it's body giving off a slight blue glow as the skill activated, she would offer a brief explanation.
"That makes it so when you hit it, you do more damage." Pausing to pull out her rifle, she would continue. "Now, lets go fuck him up, alright?"
Rushing in, she would duck down, maneuvering under the kuchikoo as it swiped its club at her, and counterattack with few shots to its back. The demon responded with a random swing backwards with its other hand, missing as the girl ducked and countered yet again with a shot into its armpit. The kuchikahn would go for a swift stomp of its foot as the girl lowered herself, only for her to fall back and push herself under the gap between the demons legs, shooting the rest of her clip where the sun don't shine from the demon.
Getting to her feet as she fell back to her partner, she would give a pained expression, showing pity for the demon. "That's gotta hurt, huh big guy?" She would look to her partner for conformation as the demon onlooked the two, showing no signs of pain nor backing down as it slowly made its way over.

"Oh..." The blue glow around the Kuchikukan seemed as useful as she described it to be. All he had to do now was to wait for the oni to strike after the stun ends and then launch a counterattack after his barrier wastes its first atta- "W-Wait!" Eyes widened when the utility player led the charge instead of the defender, cancelling his shield and chasing after her. On hindsight, it was better to charge at it and fight with the open space of the garden rather than risk bringing their bounty at the temple interiors.
Wendy just finished her clip by the time Index managed to swing his axe once in its torso. He figured the gunner's bullets hurt more than a giant slice on its stomach though. "Er, I dunno. It still tries to come back after that." Index fixed his grip on his axe so that it looked like he was holding a tennis racket and got his second strike in with his Bash before the oni could get another swing at the Equinox. The impact brought it a distance from them, though its size meant it only took a few feet away.
The paladin started walking where the Kuchikukan landed, dragging the axe as opposed to carrying it properly. Flowerbeds were destroyed as it trudged along the dirt, though that part was inevitable, he guessed.

Frowning slightly as the paladin disagreed, the equinox would look to the enemy through squinted eyes as the man attacked it, subsequently pushing it away.
“I think I did a number on it, it's moving slower innit?”
Watching as the paladin moved forward, dragging the axe through the flowerbeds, the Equinox would remember that it was the defenders job to defend. But she was having fun shooting this dumb thing up. She’d ponder for a second on what to do before sighing in defeat.
“Guess I’ll hang back here, give you a chance to be awesome or heroic, whatever you wanna call it. I’ll give you a little backup while you do your thing.”
Pointing the rifle at the kuchiha, the aqua haired girl would stop the bounty’s movements with a few well placed shots as the paladin made his way towards it. Standing back was really starting to get boring though, she hoped that he would get his turn in the spotlight over quickly.

Do monsters really feel pain? "Uh, I guess you did." He couldn't really judge its walking speed since he knocked it back as soon as he got the chance, though Index was quick to take her word for it. Perhaps it was just bad judgement on his part.
It was then that Wendy spoke. The bullets followed soon, giving him enough time to swing his axe at its torso before reacting to what she said. "W-Wait no. I'm a support-tank. I'm not meant to do awesome stuff!" He didn't leave out the heroic stuff at least. Despite its injury, the Kuchikukan was quick to charge at him. After Index's attack, the oni slammed his club from above the paladin, to which he did not even try to dodge. Having been used to monster's reactions when they have something to attack, he had his Cover skill up to clash with the blow.
The Equinox's fervor about going in without him earlier benefited them better compared to her just standing behind him now that he thought about it. "Y-You can go wild, if you want. I have heals just in case." With that said, another attack from the Kuchikukan shattered the barrier between it and Index. It tried to get in another swing following the destruction of Index's cover, though the paladin matched it with his own, axe deflecting the club away. It provided an opening for the equinox to fire clean shots, but Index was sure that it'd return to bashing him soon anyways.

With her body moving involuntarily, the equinox would start to run towards the two, quickly unequipping her rifle as she drop kicked the kuchikopi back slightly, stunning him for a second as his attack on the paladin let up. Looking up with a frown she would begin to speak in a pitiful tone.
“I couldn't possibly take away the glory from you, friend.”
Coming to a stand as the demon regained his bearings, she would reequip the rifle in her hands, using it as a shield to block an incoming attack just enough for her to slide away from it.
“There’s no way I can steal the spotlight from you a second time, that’s just downright rude.”
Pointing the rifle at the evil before her she would fire a full clip into the enemy, missing a few shots here and there, backing away in the process.
“I mean honestly, only an asshole would do that. Do I look like an asshole?”
Firing a few more shots at the kuchip she would look at the defender with an innocent face, trying her damndest to act like she didn't just do everything she did that disproved her point.

"That's too considerate of you. I can't possibly ask for more."
Eyes watched the equinox weave in and out to continue whittling down the Kuchikukan's health. With the weight of his equipment, it would not be possible for Index to move as agile as Wendy. Not that he needed to do any dodging with his defense and heals. If she could do so, he guessed it would be fine for him to share the bounty's aggro with her. Swinging his axe after Wendy finished her load, Index aimed at the same spot it cleaved earlier, deepening the cut he gave it.
"You're too kind. An asshole wouldn't be kind, right?" he spoke as the oni switched its attention from the equinox to the paladin. It swung its club at his direction, but was quickly intercepted with Index's axe. Putting a little bit of force with the strike, Index attempted to disarm the Kuchikukan from its weapon. The impact made it drop the club just beside his feet successfully. A smile on his face was quick to form, though it was short-lived.
His face met with the Kuchikukan's and the next thing he saw was the breath of fire coming straight at him, burning him. Perhaps out of instinct, Index moved away from the oni as soon as he can. "Wait, it can breathe fire?" Patting the embers off from his hair and his armor, he was preoccupied to stop their bounty from picking up its weapon again and moving towards them. Oblivious to his surroundings, the paladin had not noticed portions of the garden had caught in the fire as well.

Nodding with a smile as she dropped her arms to the side, the rifle held in one hand, the aqua haired girl would look to the man.
"You get me."
She'd begin to continue, about to tell him how he's a good guy and handles the axe of his well, but be interrupted when the sudden burst of flames spewed from the kukubura's mouth.
With a blank expression, the girl would look to the man as he stood closer to the demon than her. Watching as he backed away and questioned the bounty's attacks, the girl would sort of scratch under her chin as she answered.
"I mean, you never know what an enemy is capable of until you see em in action."
Hoisting her gun over her shoulder as she sat back and watched the two of them fight, she would continue, supporting him with her words.
"You got this, man, just like, keep him busy for a bit."
Holding out a hand, she would activate Discord on the paladin, boosting his attack as well as the effects of his skills, the blue hue radiating off him rather than the koopa.

"Keep it busy? S-Sure, I can do that," he said, patting off the last of the embers off his shoulder. He expected her to go back in, guns blazing and all, considering her actions earlier. Index wasn't sure if this had been a change of heart or if he was just basically bad at reading people, but regardless, he did as was asked of him. He cast a self heal at himself before walking back to the Kuchikukan. With the recent buff he received from Wendy and knowing its other attacks, at least he'll have an easier time now.
Going all in, he got a preemptive strike against the oni. The axe made its mark at the Kuchikukan's kneecaps, though it still wasn't enough to break its legs as he intended. Its eyes were out for blood, most specifically Index's by the way it stared at him. Lifting the club it carries, it would swing it with its backhand. The impact was caught by Index's weapon, using its flat side as a makeshift shield against the attack, and brought the paladin skidding towards his right. All he had to do was keep this up, right? "H-Hey, how long do I have to do this?" Surely, he doesn't want to solo this thing.

Looking back at the defender as he called out to her, the utility would finish stuffing a ball of takoyaki in her mouth.
She remembered not too long ago that she brought some food from a vendor around town and put it in her inventory for later. Now seemed like good a time as any to try it out. And it was as delicious as any food in game looks. She'd give a pleased smile as she set the barely touched plate of balls back into her inventory.
Licking her lips as she began to speak with a full mouth, the aqua haired girl would smile at the paladin, bits of food coming out as she made her way forward.
"I got some food and I wanted a little break before we really put in work."
Pulling her gun along, she would jerk it up, pointing it at the Kuchchoo as she held out her free hand, switching over Discord to the demon instead of the man. After putting the debuff on it she started shooting off burst of her clip into the bounty, thinking of how she can't wait to finish that takoyaki.

A huff of disappointment came from Index upon hearing her answer. He wished he could have done the same, but he knew his weak will was easily bound by his morals. No words from him followed after, but instead, turned to concentrate on the bounty in front of him. They had been on it for a while now. Sooner or later, it should be bursting in pixels and Index can move on to better things in life.
At least she started going at it again. A swing from the oni came around to hit him on his side with its club, though the paladin shrugged off the damage to return the attack. He was used to the diluted pains already anyways. Swinging his axe, he managed to cleave a deep one on the Kuchikukan's torso.
"When will it finally die?" he cried out in frustration as he pulled his left hand to the air and casted another Sanctify. Light scattered in the area once again, stunning the oni and healing his wounds at the same time.

Noticing the displeased look on his face, Wendy would gain a pitiful look herself. She felt as if she had wronged him in some way, and the only way to fix it would be by doing what she had failed to that had made the displeased look show up in his face.
Rushing forward, she would unload the rest of her clip into the monster's head at point blank range, the kuchicha falling back as it held onto its face, pixels falling from it. Looking back at the paladin she would open her menu as she spoke.
“Do’ya want some of my food? I can go buy s’more if you’re hungry right now.”
She had figured that the mistake she made was not remembering to offer food to the defender, it was rude not to at least offer even if they didn't want it yanno.
She’d be interrupted from fiddling about in her inventory as the bounty swatted her aside with his club, flingig her away with the one hit. She had little to no defense in this form and from that one hit, she was already on the verge. Gritting her teeth in pain, she would quickly activate Change Form out of reflex, switching to her defensive form. The pain faded away as underwent the complete metamorphosis.
Coming to a stand with a sigh of relief, she would straighten out her clothes and half look at the paladin, her eyes altering to his to the ground.
“I-I’m sorry for not offering you any food, you must have felt left out.”
She had a sort of softer yet awkward tone in her voice than she previously had as she spoke.
Running to hide behind the paladin as the bounty turned its attention to her, the equinox would activate Harmony on the paladin, the defensive buff lessening the damage taken from the kachow.
The bounty held its pixel leaking face as it slowly approached, its movements slower and sloppier, it looked on the verge of death.

Index took the moment of the stun's duration to take a breather, turning to Wendy as she spoke. "Y-you dont really need to." It was only then that he realized he was showing a displeased expression, changing it into a smile when he replied. He wasn't interested in the food that she started to took out of her inventory, though he did get curious when she mentioned about buying him one.
The snile did not last long as a panicked expression took over as soon as his eyes caught the oni's club smash on her side. "Hey, you alright?" The paladin quickly held his hand to her position and casted a heal out of panic. Sighing with relief as he saw her run behind him, he stopped the healing and got his hands back at his weapon.
He let the Kuchikukan come to him instead of the other way around. With the buff he recieved from the Equinox, he was confident nothing would go wrong, well concerning him anyways. As soon as it reached Index's axe's reach, he swung the heavy axe and fell the bounty with one last hit, letting it explode in pretty pixels.
"And done!" The axe quickly went to his inventory; there was no reason for him to carry something heavy around anymore anyways. Looking around, it seemed that the few embers from the Kuchikukan's flame breath had spread to some parts of the garden. "S-sooo... about that thing you were eating...?" He did not want to deal with the collateral damage, bringing up an unrelated subject to keep themselves from discussing about it.
