She arrived in Izanami a bit too early for her liking and with no other choice, she started to wait.
What the hell was she going to do for the next half hour?
The woman grumbled, running a hand thoughtlessly through her mount's fur. She had a passing thought about scoping out the area ahead of time while she waited. Squinting at the distance, it was clear that there was no need. From where she was sitting, she could see the fiery mane and was sure the oni had spotted her as well. Skadi paused at the sight, not having to look very far after arriving on the map to see the bounty approaching her partner. Sending the party invite, she rushed forward on the back of her mount, leaving a trail of icy footprints in her wake as she rushed for the fiery oni. Perhaps not her best decision since she'd gotten stuck in this game, but she wasn't about to back down from a challenge just because she was at an obvious disadvantage. Skadi dismounted before breaking into a frost stride, hurtling towards the enemy to disrupt his charge and take hold of his focus from Anya. She didn't expect any less from the woman and as soon as she accepted the party, she was on her way down. Rather than dismount, Anya stayed on Sasha, using her sword to guide the dog's fiery path. The beast pounced past the oni, slashing it with it's claws in combination with Anya's own sword. Anya flashed a grin at Skadi not missing a beat in their synergy.
It was a given considering how often they fought side by side. It was slowly coming to a point where words weren't needed. A simple glance and nod carried them through most battles. Granted, most battles never lasted long enough for them.
Anya gave a small wave at Skadi, hollering, "I thought you were busy today! Didn't skip out on work to come play with me, right?" "It sounded like you needed me." She panted, casting her a smile. Saskia stepped into the oni, bringing up the ice spikes of glacial teeth around her and into the monster. There was a sizzling, and she knew the damage had been limited even as a layer of frost slid up the demon's legs. It chilled him, only slowing him down. She frowned, lunging forward to cut across his chest with her bladed shield. If she could, she would have aimed for his throat, but he was a fucking monster in size as well. That was fine. She had this. The oni inhaled, before exhaling a fucking flamethrower, Skadi barely getting out of the way of the full blast and shouting as the flames washed over her shield and onto her shoulder. Maybe she didn't have this. Skadi grinned in the face of the challenge, rolling her shoulder to literally shrug off the damage. She followed her partner's movement, lips curving upwards at the level of control shown. It looked as if she could take on the Oni on her own. Even with the Oni's flames, Anya wasn't concerned about Skadi. The woman could handle herself just fine without her aid, though that didn't stop her from giving it.
Tapping at Sasha's shoulder, the dog began to rush at the demon again, throwing itself at it. It's body collided with the massive red-skinned demon with it's entire weight. Anya used it as leverage to sink her short sword into the thick skin, only piercing an inch into it. It did not budge.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Anya shouted, clicking her tongue to have Sasha back away. The blade didn't loosen from the boss when she had pulled at it. In the end, she had to abandon it where it stayed. She made a mental note to retrieve her sword later on, perhaps when the demon was defeated.

Her partner helped her little when it was made difficult to actually do her job and damage the monster, and Saskia had every intention of biting into the fire demon's health as fast as she could. While it disappointed her that most of her battles with Anya did not last longer - for what she could have learned otherwise, of course - this one she wouldn't mind being cut short. She leaped up to grab hold of the sword, trying to yank it out, but instead found herself being lifted as she pulled on the sword this way and that. Unfortunate, but - well. It actually did keep her out of the oni's wrath while allowing her to maintain his attention, she realized as he tried to swipe at her unsuccessfully, teetering to try to free himself from her grasp. Skadi grinned, shifting her weight and footing onto the Oni's back as she began to hold tight onto her partner's sword. "Can you still damage it?" She challenged, curious if this would work as well for the Slayer. At first, she was sure the woman was trying to help her retrieve the lost short blade but once it became clear there was no way to remove it, she made use of it. From dangling off of it to using it to reposition herself -- fuck?! She felt starstruck, catching herself staring rather than helping. She snapped herself out from the short daze or whatever the fuck it was to get her ass back into gear.
Once the challenge had dropped straight from Skadi's lips, Anya moved swiftly.
Dismounting herself from Sasha, she eased herself into a sprint over to the massive creature. Thanks to Skadi's distraction, it was easy to get into a favorable range. If the woman wanted damage, Anya was going to serve it to her hot. Sliding her leg back for proper footing, Anya let loose a barrage of punches at the demon's shin. If anything, she hoped it would be enough to give the Oni a fracture to take it down a notch.

If the oni wanted to detach the Vanadis from his back, he would have to give her back Anya's sword as well. After all, that seemed like a fair trade. The oni moved, and Skadi leaned into it to twist the sword further into the wound, before readjusting again to maintain her balance, thus buying Anya enough time to get in nice and close without the demon's notice. When the Slayer started to get to work, Skadi tilted her head and let her hair slide out of the way so that she could enjoy the view. Her grin widened; Anya was good at what she did, and there was no denying it. By the time the bounty realized what he had allowed to happen to him, he was too late to stop the Slayer, a crack resounding as the damage was already done. A harsh laugh erupted from Skadi as she was given quite the ride on the way down, the oni falling to his knee as she was left holding on tight to the sword hilt, sliding as she lost her footing for a moment. The second she was able to reposition herself, she kept an eye out for Anya's status. Just in case he would want to focus on her now, she used a glacial teeth, icicles erupting up around her footing across the oni's back. Beautiful. There was no one who knew better than her when it came to the feeling of shattering bones. Her track record was nothing to laugh at and in her short-lived career, she had her fair share of doing damage to others. Namely, fracturing various bones ranging from knuckles to arms and just flat out destroying rib cages. She had done it all and without a doubt, she struck gold with this one.
Giving herself some distance, Anya glanced up at Skadi to take a peek at how the defender was doing from her perch. Anya turned away immediately when she noticed that Skadi was looking right at her. This made her heart beat rapidly from the sudden surge of happiness. Fuck yeah, she was cool too. The Slayer grinned when the Oni had fallen.
It struggled, turning it's eyes onto her, glaring with eyes as crimson as her own. It let out a fearsome roar when Skadi sank ice into it's back. Following that was a stream of fire that came at her, blazing up it's path. Shit.

It was like some very specific form of emotional whiplash, going from being impressed to panic - no, that wasn't right. She knew, immediately, that she would not be able to race the monster in time. Her only hope was that Anya could withstand the attack. Screaming, "Eyes on me," She twisted the sword outright, breaking the skin and watching the pixels fly from the monster's back as she relinquished the loosened sword and swiped at the oni with it. It would be hard for him to follow orders with her on his back, however, so she chose to make life easier on him. Racing up his back, Skadi slid around to his front, twisting as she shifted over his shoulder to touch the blade side of her shield to the monster's neck. He moved, her basic attack only slicing through the flesh of his shoulder. It didn't matter to her; she knew her message had been loud and clear, and she'd regained the oni's attention as he swiped a hand towards her, forcing to raise her shield more defensively while tossing Anya's sword towards the ground, where she hoped the woman still stood. Later, when this was all over, she would need to talk with Anya about her guard. To the best of her abilities, she endured with only a portion of her health still available to her. Her hands dropped to her knees to keep her legs from collapsing under her. The burn felt real and hurt like a motherfucker still stinging at her bare skin. It was like a sunburn but worse -- much worse. She had to breathe with heavy breaths to keep the pain levels under control, shaking the sensation away to the best of her abilities. Looking up, she could see her sword land a few feet in front of her.
Skadi was hard at work still keeping the Oni's attention and squeezing in damage wherever she could manage. Anya staggered over to her sword to retrieve it, pulling it out of the ground much easier than the tough red skin. Her arms felt like lead as she dragged her gauntlet and sword across the ground, pushing herself to make her way over to Skadi. Another step and she had hit the ground with a dull thud, vision blurring.

Anyone with their health as critical as Anya's should stay back, out of the range of the fire-breathing demon, but no, for some reason this was a concept foreign to the Slayer. Skadi hissed as the situation was pushed into one of crisis; had it been her own health she was gambling, it would have been fine. The fact was, however, that it wasn't. She stepped into the oni's space, drawing up glacial teeth and hissing out when by some god's grace it actually froze over the being made of fire. She had no belief, whatsoever, that this was something that would last, and so she wasted no time in rushing to Anya's side and picking the woman up bridal style. She had every plan of placing Anya out of the oni's range before returning, even if the retreat reset the monster's health bar. She could only assume that she had been dreaming about an alternative universe version of her guild leader. If it was a dream, she would allow herself to be spoiled. The Slayer nuzzled herself closer to the familiar scent. It felt comforting and weirdly, she felt safe for once. The pain that she had become acquainted with faded from her memory. It wasn't that she had wished to be cradled like a child, only wishing that she could be close to the woman she admired.
Looking up at the face that she had grown so fond of, she couldn't help but reach out. Anya smiled slightly, patting at Vanadis' cheek. Blinking slowly, Anya shifted herself, arms wrapping around Skadi's neck. She didn't know why she felt the urge to touch her lips against the woman's throat. It felt right and so she did, healing herself up from her own passive. One that she hadn't used until now.
She felt much better within a few seconds of leeching the life from her savior. Having to constantly adapt had added a challenge that she enjoyed, but Skadi hadn't expected in the slightest Anya's half conscious ... affections? The woman steeled her mind towards the objective of getting her to safety just as Anya's lips touched her neck and her eyes widened. Oh. The Vanadis' mind flashed through association, and then realization- Warmth on the back of her neck snapped her into the back of reality that processing what had just happened in that moment was the furthest thing from an option. Placing Anya down, she noticed her recovered health bar in comparison to her lowered own, filing it away for now as something the Slayer must have done out of survival instinct. Of course. The moment Anya had been set on the ground, Skadi turned and used to frost slide to close the distance between herself and the oni and bar him from approaching the woman she'd just worked so hard to draw into a safe range. He had been hurt enough; it wouldn't take much longer for her to finish him off now, even with the simple collision followed by base attacks. She sat up immediately remembering that she was in the middle of a bounty with a certain someone. It took her only a moment to realize that Skadi had just gotten back to the battle with the Oni, recognizing her signature ice slide. The Slayer got up into a run, sliding herself down the trail left behind just to speed up the process. She didn't care for how her health had recovered nor how she was so far from the bounty. All she cared about was finishing it.
"Heads up!"
Anya shouted out making use of the built up momentum to crash her foot into the Oni's gargantuan head. Like a pinata, it had exploded into colorful pixelized confetti, raining down on both women. The Slayer flashed a toothy grin up at Skadi feeling quite proud of herself for slaying the boss. Even though it was Skadi who had whittled it down in the first place.
