for right now theo couldn’t find the words to express how amazing noel had been. nor could he truly voice the way his breath caught in his throat when he watched everything in slow motion; to see noel, beaming and excited, turning to stare back at him upon realizing their victory. it wasn’t that theo didn’t want to try and, if given the time, he’d sit on this boat for hours complimenting the other and asking to see his skills being used again -- but he wasn’t so lucky and danger called to drag their attention away. too caught up in his own rush of thoughts theo hadn’t realized the stutter plaguing the others voice when he had spoke, nor did his eyes glance up to noel's face to see the embarrassment fading under his skin. it was only when noels tone raised to peak his interest in his skill that theo paused. he didn’t want to be complemented. it always caught him off guard when noel was so genuine in his words -- it caused everything to stop around him, shutting down his ability to process what had just happened. “yeah,” theo started, just barely audible through the noise going on around them. “i’ll show you .. next time we’re not too busy.” his voice felt odd to hear aloud and, for a moment, he hopes that noel won’t catch the way his eyes glance to somewhere (anywhere) else. as the creatures begin to move towards them theo notices the movement first before watching at noel takes the initiative. he takes a step back, allowing the other room to fly forward, diving his weapon into one of the beasts. in seconds theos breath is taken away yet again; first in starstruck awe and the next in momentary panic at the sight of one of those monsters landing a hit on noel. his eyes immediately find the indicator of the others health, biting his lip as it goes down; and, while the damage is small, that ping of fear still lingers. the creature had died, exploding into a sea of pixels, but behind it were more -- the sounds of others rushing towards the commotion they had caused. seeing noel move towards him theo couldn’t help but smile, as forced as it was. he’d forgotten the way his teeth had bit into his lip in worry, allowing the sight of the other getting close to ease his thoughts. noels excitement was contagious as he watched the other beam up at him, asking him a question he nearly misses. “oh …” it takes theo a second to realize what noel was talking about; blaming himself for being too concentrated on how amazing noel looked like this. happy. excited. all the things theo had been worried he’d never see again when they had gotten stuck in this game. “oh! yeah, lets try it.” theo starts, words falling into a breathless laugh as he activates his skill again. he didn’t need to embed noel's weapon any longer, and the switch between elements was as quick as thinking about it. “i’m sure this will work. if anyone can do it, it’s you.” theo said, eyes finding noels as he smiles -- far less forced than before. he means every word he says; believes without a doubt that noel could do this. “be careful though. if you start to get hurt just attack them. i’ll change my skills around so you’ll heal yourself, so don’t worry.”

ACTIVE SKILL ELEMENTALIST INTENT air: grants the user's weapon a unique passive. channeling a basic attack for five seconds will store energy into the weapon and, upon release, will knock back all enemies around them away. channeling this energy requires the user to not move nor attack, leaving them in a vulnerable position while doing so. however, this passive may be canceled at any time, releasing whatever energy they had stores into a minor knockback.

His body was practically vibrating from the adrenaline coursing through his body. He blamed it on the thrill of his first fight, something he hadn’t been expecting to accomplish since they landed in the game. The thought of dying still terrified him, an ugly thought still looming in the back of his mind. Even when the monster had managed to land a hit on him, he had felt that crippling fear as he turned to look at his health bar, almost expecting it to hit zero. But despite all of that, seeing each monster get destroyed one by one and Theo’s blinding grin had lit a fire in him that he had thought he lost. It made him stronger, knowing that at the end of the day, Theo would be there to congratulate him and share that smile with him once more.
Noel watched Theo mimic his own excitement over the battle, causing him to bounce a little in place as he waited for the elemental change. No matter what Theo said, his abilities were some of the most fascinating things he had seen since he got here. Knowing that Theo could add and change an element on his weapon in a few seconds was amazing. Everything about Theo was amazing.
The fire on his weapon disappeared and soon he could feel it grow a little lighter as a small breeze started to flow around the weapon. Noel returned Theo’s smile as he told him to be careful and couldn’t help but laugh as a response. “I’m always careful.” It wasn’t exactly true, they both knew that. “At least here I am. But I’ll keep you safe. They won’t even know what hit them.” Noel bounced a few feet back and gave Theo a thumbs up.
Spreading his feet, he crouched down and waited, channelling his focus into his weapon. He could see the creatures start to head towards him, each one raising their weapon to get a swing at him. They wouldn’t make it in time. As soon as the skill charged, Noel swung his weapon towards the monsters. Wind flew out of his weapon and hit the creatures, picking them up and tossing them in every direction. Some flew off the ship while others slammed into the sides of the railing and walls. One by one, each of them disappeared into pixels until there were no more.
Noel waited a few seconds to see if any more would show up and only heard silence. With a sigh of relief, he dropped his weapon and crouched over to take a deep breath. “Oh…” with the adrenaline slowly starting to ebb away, he could feel himself shaking from the battle. “We did it.” He gave a breathless laugh and tried to stand up straight from where he was crouched. With a hunched figure, Noel turned to give Theo a smile to show that he was fine. They had done it. “Do you think we can puke in the game?”

it was hard to imagine this excited boy, unable to contain himself and nearly bouncing up and down in front of his very eyes, was the same one who had been crouched over the side of the boat, ready to throw up whatever pixilated lunch was still in his system. the change in attitude was infectious, allowing theo to be swept away in the current noel threw off in order to ignore the itching fear that had hit him the second the creature brought noels health down a small notch. theo had hoped that this small adventure would have brought noel out of his shell by forcing him out of the comfort that had been the town of origins. it was rude and, possibly, unnecessary. he had never been sure what path to take them. after the first night they had been in the game theo had been more than happy to keep noel safe within the starter town, away from the mobs of monsters and bosses that swept through the world. if noel would be okay without him theo would have gladly went off on quests outside of town to ensure they had enough money to stay within that small room they called home; but they both couldn’t be away from each other for too long. but now, seeing noel in a rush as he was, theo couldn’t help but smile -- cheeks hurting from the strain and uncaring of the small pings of pain that faded too quickly to care. he had been afraid this trip wouldn’t have worked out but, while he’d thought to be positive in thinking, seeing the result take off like this left him speechless. theo had always known noel was capable of this -- of anything really -- and he was happy to see his potential shine so brightly. at the comment of noel always being careful catching his attention theo shot the other a look and, regardless of whether he had caught it or not, quickly retracted his statement. even with his exhausted expression regarding the quick dismissal of his own comment to stay safe theo couldn’t help but keep smiling, watching as the other took off towards the creatures making their way near. “stay safe!” theo called, raising his voice in order to ensure noel heard him over the screeches and footsteps coming his way. if for a second noel started to loose too much health theo would change his skill, allowing the other to steal life; but for now he’d wait, keeping a watchful eye on the others well being. he could see the way noel knelt down, charging the new passive granted to him by the bead residing within the javelin; and, as the creatures drew close, theo watched noel release the energy he held in. everything that had strayed too close was now knocked back, violently slamming against the railing, walls or off the boat completely; but by the end they all were gone, lost in pixels that faded just as fast. the adrenaline rush that was slowly training from noel still was raised high in his blood, rushing through him. his lips parted, laughing at the sight of the other, hunched over but smiling in his direction, asking the same silly question he’d asked before. the silence returned to the ship as though nothing had happened but all theo was aware of was his feeting pushing him towards the other. “you were so cool!” theo shouted once he got close. he had been tempted to grab him like before or hug him; the idea of tackling him down to the floor had come to mind too, but in the end theo thought of something a little better. he didn’t give noel a chance to react nor move away once his arms reached over, sweeping the other off his feet with an ease that turned his smile to a smirk. noel had promised that if things went fine he’d be allowed to carry him; and theo wasn’t about to let that opportunity get away. “i know i said this before, but you were amazing!” theo continued, biting his lip just a little after the words left his lips. he kept his tone casual, ignoring whatever look noel might give him as he lifted noel up into his arms. “i mean, i already knew this. god knows i could list all the reasons why you are. which, i can do by the way! just tell me when and we can both get comfortable and make it a night.” there was a pause after the words came out, far to sped up than he had originally thought they'd be. "s-sorry... are you okay?" noel probably wanted nothing to do with that question nor his kind-hearted question on the others well-being; but he had no one to blame but himself for promising something they both knew wouldn’t be forgotten.

His body was shaking and he felt like he couldn’t feel his legs. All the adrenaline that had rushed through him during the fight was gone, leaving him to try and catch his breath. Looking back on it, there had only been one moment where he had felt that unsettling panic begin to well up inside of him, waiting to see if his health would somehow hit low enough for him to disappear into pixels. But nothing had happened, and with Theo’s help, they had managed to take out the monsters with relative ease. It brought everything into a new light, opening up more doors and paths for them to take now that they experienced the combat. It gave him a sense of peace knowing that, while this was probably one of the easiest fights, they had still experienced what they had to do in the coming days.
Noel finally stood as he saw Theo speed closer and gave a small chuckle at his exclamation. It was embarrassing to have Theo praise him like this. He was the one to shower Noel with all sorts of compliments, usually just to tease him in some way. But it was when Theo sounded genuine and enthusiastic, his smirk replaced by a wide smile and bright eyes, Noel was left breathless and flustered, unable to form words for a few seconds afterwards. Before he could respond, his feet suddenly left the floor and he was left clutching at Theo’s clothes in an attempt to steady himself on something. It had taken him by surprise, a small noise escaping him as he tried to gain some kind of leverage to hold himself up. He almost didn’t hear what the other had said to him, no words forming in his mouth as he turned his gaze to look at his current headache.
He knew this would backfire on him.
No amount of compliments or concerned questions could stop him from glaring at Theo’s face. His hands were still clutching his friend’s armor but had loosened somewhat now that he know he was tucked safely in his arms. “I wasn’t that amazing.” He would bite back on his protest for now, knowing that he did promise Theo that if they made it out okay, he could carry him. “You were the one who forced me on this ship so I only did it because of you.” He wouldn’t have done anything in this game if it wasn’t for Theo. If he wasn’t with him then he would still be in the starter town, hiding away in his room without ever coming out. Slowly his glare died down and he stared openly at Theo, not turning away even if Theo were to look over at him. “You were pretty amazing too. That last attack only happened because you gave me the skill.” He couldn’t have done anything if it wasn’t for him. “Thank you for everything.”

very rarely did theo get chances like this and, even rarer, did he get the opportunity to treat noel like the prince he saw him as. sure he ignored most of the others protests with things -- but it was only natural to want to place the person you were so smitten by on a throne. it was exactly what theo wanted to do to noel, figuratively and literally. to him noel deserved it. through all the hardships the other had faced and fought through theo wanted nothing more than to treat him to as much as possible. it was why theo showered the other in compliments from morning to night, never missing a moment to say something even when noel was ready to fight him in order to shut him up. it was always why theo had been so willing to pamper noel the second they got onto the boat. he knew noel didn’t want to be here and, while he had taken it in stride, the push outside of the safety of the town was must have been exhausting. his eyes finally met noels, feeling the other burning daggers into him the second his grip against his armor had loosened from the shock. if the promise had never been made theo would have never dared try this -- at least, not right after the ordeal that was their first fight. but noel had said it himself and theo was happy to take whatever came next, so long as he could keep holding noel in his arms. “regardless,” theo started, matching noels glare with a smile. “you were amazing … i wish you could have saw yourself. you took out all those monsters by yourself. sure i was there, but honestly all i do is watch from a distance. that was all you.” his mouth opens to talk again, only to close and quiet whatever words that would have formed at the sight of noel, glare gone and staring up at him. it’s moments like these that cause theo to be lost -- staring into the other's eyes while on the edge, waiting for something to be said and knowing that, whatever it might be, he’ll fall for. it’s that same genuine tone that forms a compliment theo doesn’t want to hear. the last thing he wants is to have noel watch him get flustered, holding the boy he’s adored for too long in his arms -- too vulnerable and transparent to hide everything he’s always wanted to say outright. theo’s the one to break the contact, forcing himself to look away from noel and to somewhere else. it’s all too unfocused for him to care and it’s only now that theo feels the weight of noel's body against his arms. he can feel everything about him; right there where he always wants him to be. “well, i should thank you too.” theo says, unsure how convincing his tone is. he knows he’d have to say something eventually and, with every passing second of silence, knows that noel could see more and more how his words affect him. “you protected me … so if anyone should be grateful it’s me.” his voice drops and, in a moment of courage, theo glances back at noel, giving the boy a small smile. “i think i owe you too so let me carry you back to our room. you’ve earned this after that fight.”
