the valley of the fallen. the woman's bushy tail wooshed behind her as she walked into the clearing, bones crunching beneath her feet. it seemed like she'd been finding herself here frequently: first the raid and now the bounty. it looked so much different than it had the last time she was here. the angry gray clouds had dissipated into bright clear skies revealing the shining sun. hex lifted her arms into the air, stretching and feeling the heat on her skin. as the woman walked, grass brushing against her knees, she liked to pretend the bones of those who died in the raid rested here, though she knew that those players were nothing more than pixels now. a terrible fate, indeed, but there was nothing that could be changed about it. what's done was done. there was only moving forwards now. though quite a distance away from aldus the fallen, his crimson cape stood out bright against its background, the only splash of color contrasting against the sea of green. she kept the space between her and the bounty consistent as she moved, keeping her eyes locked on him. broom at the ready, hex waited for the perfect moment to strike.

He arrived casually, but partly gallantly as well. It wasn't his first rodeo. He had only met the girl in the raid before, but he was friendly enough to queue with her for their bounty. Remaining silent, but not intentionally, the bruiser strolled to his partner on foot. Once he was within a few feet of the foxfire's rear, he stopped in position and pulled out his menu. In just a few seconds he cleared the interface after checking all of his gear, all while continuing to keep quiet. “Are you ready?” Gauntlet's words purged through the girl's heel, and maybe even her composure. Without even checking or waiting for his response, his eyes darted from her to her target; Aldus of the Fallen. Andrew had heard stories about him from the npcs found in main town. Once a powerful knight, but fallen by the corruption of power. It was poetic in a way, or that's what Gauntlet thought anyway. This was why he was so keen on fighting him in the first place. Slaying bosses you heard stories about made everything that much epic.

eyes stalking the terror, hex had no intention of waiting for her party member to show up before she attacked. legs braced to move in swiftly, the woman was startled by the sudden sound of a deep voice from behind. she jumped forward and spun around to be faced with her stalker. gauntlet. a player she'd only met once before at the raid that took place in this very spot. a flat palm was placed against her chest, an offended look on her face. "don't scare me like that! at least make some noise when sneaking up on someone, you," the creep was held back. hex ran a hand through her hair and huffed. "of course." she turned her body back to face to demon that the duo was about to take down. "how about you go in first, and i'll follow you up and keep you safe," a smile was tossed in the direction of the attacker.

Gauntlet was shocked by her rebuttal, but came to immediately, without any physical display. He had no malicious intent. He never meant to scare her. You'd think someone who had survived this long would be cautious, but maybe that's what scared her so bad in the first place. Either way, it presented the situation in a darker light. Using this information alone, how far could he rely on her? But then again, how much did he need her. “I-I'm sorry.” He spoke genuinely, and with proper etiquette. A giant glove circled back and engulfed the end part of his scalp. He had no intention of interrupting her as she fired on. She appeared to put herself back together rather quickly, a mental note the bruiser would write in his own notebook about the girl. “I think that's the only plan we got.” He replied to the foxfire's offer, but this time with sarcasm. Again, he had no intention to offend, only to pick fun at their single option. There was no sense in putting the utility up front, there was too much to risk. With a steady pace, Gauntlet stepped past the young lady and stopped in her front. His eyes examined the same unaware boss once more. He already had the concept cooked up in his brain, but he wanted to show his concerns in the open. After a few moments of studying, the bruiser turned his gaze back on his party member. “Is there anything you want to cast before I go in?” He mouthed the words kindly, and without push. He had no idea how her class worked, but this question would quickly enlighten his mind on the issue.

though she noted the sarcasm in his voice, hex chose to ignore it. just friendly banter after all. the man better not think that she was here to soak up whatever damage the beast dealt. the woman preferred sitting in the back and casting from afar, but since it was just the two of them, she'd come to terms with the fact she'd have to put in a little more than she usually did. "i suppose i could," the caster muttered closing some of the gap between her and the zombified creature. gripping the handle of her broom near the bristles with both hands, hex slammed slammed just the tip into the ground. a spell circle of fire appeared before her and the bristles on the broom burst into flames. she pointed the fire coated broom towards the attacker, waving it around recklessly. "you ready? it's only gonna hold for a second," of course the foxfire could have gone more in depth to what her skill was going to do, but where was the fun in that? without further ado, hex swept the circle towards the bounty. the spell trailed cinders and ashes in its wake as it came to trap aldus in its grasp. not watching if her partner followed, she broke off in a sprint towards the monster. if the trap wasn't enough to alert their opponent, the sounds of bones crunching under her feet certainly was.

Great. This is how all good things came to an end. “I meant to cast on me!” Gauntlet shouted as he stumbled to close the distance between him and the bounty. Places where his legs couldn't pull the weight his giant fists would maintain, almost like a gorilla but with palms opened. “Aren't you a utility?!” He called out again, but this time several feet ahead. The brusier's mind scraped at all of the possible outcomes in his mind as he readied for his attack. Within just a few seconds, the white-haired lad was in the knight's perimeter. Thankfully, he made it before the stun had ended. “Take this!” Gauntlet hollered as he fired a simple basic attack from his right arm. And then again, he fired a second jab, but this time from the left. Then one final one to finish the combo just as the paralyze ended on his foe. A devastating way to start the fight, but it didn't stop Aldus. Quickly, the fallen knight swung his gigantic blade over his shoulder. And just as if it was in the same action, the towering soldier swung the sword back down to his foe in one fell swoop.

"oops?" the caster said with a shrug of her shoulders. it's like this boy didn't understand how utilities even worked. maybe, just maybe, she was slightly at fault for getting ahead of herself and rushing in, but it's not like the attacker had specified what he meant. she did cast something after all. it hadn't been exactly what he had wanted, but that wasn't her fault. being low leveled meant that she didn't have too many spells on her belt that she could cast. no matter what she would have done, gauntlet wouldn't have been satisfied. even in his disappointment, the attacker followed up on her spell. hex followed behind, getting closer, but staying far enough away to be out of their enemies range. this time when she smacked her broom stick against the ground, a small flame covered fox appeared, walking circles around the rod. an early call, but it would be ready if the attacker were to take any damage. the foxfire saw the bounty prepare for an attack. a deadly one from the looks of it. not having enough time to recast her infernal brand, the utility chose to run up on the beast, swinging her broom and aiming the head at his shoulder, hoping to offset his attack.

Everything that happened next was quick and sudden. Before the bruiser could react to the bounty's attack, his utility rushed into range to assist. Mistake one. Next she used the straw-end of her broom to bash at the enemy and forced his blade to fail. Mistake two. Both mistakes coincided to shove the situation into something much worse. “What are you doing?!” He barely had a chance to respond as the knight reeled up for another strike, but aimed at the girl this time around. “Get back!” He shouted again as he slid into the small distance between the two. Gauntlet's giant palms fired into the air as the blade swayed downward like a guillotine. Fortunately for the both of them, the bruiser was able to stop the slash but not without giving bits of his lifebar in the process. He held position as he pressed to hold against the weight of the blade. Quickly he shifted the power in his legs to push the sword to the left and into the ground. He dove in again, just as before. One simple jab to the chest. Then with another hook with the left hand, a second hit to another place on the chest. Finally, he finished with God Breaker. First, the impact ripped a path of destruction behind the knight. Bits of grass and soil tossed into the air as the wind melded around the ability. Then the fallen's knight reacted to it, just moments after. His posture bent around the blow then lashed back out as the force launched him elsewhere. Just a few feet away from the punch, the monster landed on his backside, right next to his massive weapon.

her attack had worked as planned, stopping the knight from striking the bruiser. the bounty now turned his gaze to hex, once more lining up an attack. if she was quick enough, she could dodge to the side, only taking a partial hit from the attack. that was, until the attacker decided to move in once more taking a portion of the blow. "what am i doing?! what are you doing?" she screeched at the boy as his fists landed blows against their enemy. was he an idiot? she had just saved him, why would he go back in? the caster jumped back from the knight. as she smacked her broom stick against the ground, cinders and ashes danced into the air and the spirit of a small fox came to stand next to her. with one final punch from gauntlet's gauntlet, aldus was knocked back onto the ground and not a threat for the moment. "go heal the idiot!" she snapped at the fox pointing at the man, but she didn't stop her words there. the spirit pranced towards the man, its ears the only thing visible other the tall grass. "what's your problem? i saved you, why'd you just jump back in? i was fine, i didn't need your help. you could have died." that was one of the reasons the utility preferred raids to working with just one other person. attackers were so cocky when they were on their own.

Again. What a joke. She makes all these mistakes. Puts her own life at risk. Then blames it on the guy who has to save the day. It wasn't about being cocky or confident. It was doing what had to be done. It was doing what was required of him, so she would do what was required of her. If everyone played their specific part on the battlefield, like they were supposed to, there would be no issue. Gauntlet didn't care if her basic attacks were melee. Her spells were ranged and she should of stayed back so he could layer in the damage. This wasn't a place where utilities belonged. He chose to ignore her first replies that were placed alongside the chaos. He also chose to ignore her little conversation with her little fox ally. There was no time to find flaws in the name-calling. “I'm not dying here. I'm a bruiser, this is what I'm supposed to do.” He replied to the girl's words but much calmer than he did before. Hopefully the lesson would push through and put her back in the rear where she belonged. If anyone was going to get killed, it was the utilities that thought they could rush in and fight like attackers. Just as the white-haired young man turned his attention back to the front, the towering knight rose to his feet once more using his own weapon as leverage. A sudden dash had him hurdling towards the duo with his sword dragging against the soil.

hex rolled her eyes at the attacker, she couldn't stand men like him. more than just men, people in general she supposed, but men were generally worse about it then women. whatever the case, he wasn't worth the waste of breath. if he wanted to jump in and be all in the bounty's face by himself, then so be it. the woman would sit back while he did all the work and she reaped the benefits. more power to him if that's what he wanted to do. during their arguing, the knight was able to collect himself and was once more in a standing position, charging towards the two with his sword in tow behind him. the foxfire ran away from where she stood, hoping to get out of the path of their target. the woman had no idea which of the two he was aiming for (maybe both?), but she would take the attacker's "advice" and cast from afar. when she thought she was in a safe position, she once more beat the stick of her weapon into the ground, the same exact magical circle appearing at her feet. in an attempt to stop the knight's mad running, she swept the circle towards him, trying to pin him in place before he could do any damage to either of the two. maybe it was what she was "supposed to do" and the attacker would shut his mouth. but she couldn't shut hers. "that good enough for you?"

Finally. Was it really that hard? To sit back and have things done for you? Gauntlet had no intention to belittle the job of a utility, but they had it easy in terms of danger as long as they played it smart and from a distance. He only wanted to control the situation. If he could have her where she fit best, in his mind, and where he was meant to be on the front-lines, it would play out just as he planned. Responsibility was no joke, and he had no plans of being responsible for someone's life. With the girl's summoned circle from the rear, the player decided to dive in once more. “That works.” He noted. By synchronizing with the activation of the stun, the bruiser tossed in a flurry of punches. One after another, but all basic attacks. A hook, a cross and then he would finish with a haymaker and trigger the effects of his relentless combination. He'd only enforce three attacks total before the stun wore out and the knight rose for another swing.

that works. hex wanted to mock the man out loud, but she decided it best to keep it inside. this would be over with soon, and then she could grab her loot, leave him, and never look back. if she was lucky, she'd never run into him again. acting on her stun, the attacker moved in on the boss, throwing punch after punch against the knight as he was stuck in place. along with her spell circle came the effect of her passive. the cinders and ashes that were tossed in the air would burn the boss as they healed gauntlet. the stun didn't last forever, though, it wore off within seconds and the bounty was once more free to swing his sword. instead of jumping in to attempt to deflect his attack like she had last time, this time the caster sat back and watched. if he wanted to handle it all on his own, then she would let him. she wouldn't do nothing though. her fox spirit was still alive, and hex beckoned the creature over to where she stood. with her stun not ready to be used again, healing was the only skill currently on her belt. with a finger, she motioned the fox to the boy to attempt to heal through any damage he took.

He barely made notes of the girl behind him as he acted on the battlefield. Aldus launched another swing, but this time he was fully capable of dodging it on his own. A gentle, but cunning, step to the side navigated the bruiser to the right side of the knight. From there he was able to launch another right hook into the towering soldier's rib cage. That's where the monster released a metallic-like shriek that caught the player and his actions off-guard. It was perfect timing, but this time it was for the bounty. A well-placed backhand shoved the bruiser over as another slash was channeled. This one caught Gauntlet by the edges and removed bits of his lifebar as it cut through. Fortunately for the front-liner, his utility wasn't completely useless. Her fox began to heal small notches on his health points as he regained his ground. The white-haired boy pressed back on the monster and released another flurry of blows on the sudden opening. He finished his barrage with a final finish, cutting into what was left of the creature's life. With that, the beast was thrown back onto the grass and soil, just as before. But he wouldn't stand again. No, this time he exploded into bits of colors and loot that scattered across the area of his shadow. He was defeated, and the duo had won. Somehow. “Well, that's that.” He noted as he turned from the defeated bounty to the player behind him.

the fight continued on, hex sitting back while gauntlet fought against the knight. they exchanged blows, but luckily for the man, the fox spirit was there to heal him through some of the hits that he took. as she watched, she thought about stepping in to do more, but it looked like the man had it under control as punch after punch landed against the target until he took it down. "that's that." hex echoed the attacker's words as she strutted towards the loot that dropped from the bounty. the caster placed the reward in her inventory, brushing her hands together and turning to look at her party member. what was she supposed to say now? should she just leave it as it was and go on her way? she should at least say something before they went their own ways. the woman took a few steps closer to the boy and awkwardly stuck on her hand for a handshake. "good work, see you around?" she hoped she wouldn't.
