"She gives her love to you!"[break][break] Where Raynauld had gotten a bell had been a mystery, but no doubt that the NPCs would hate it if they could manage any independent thought. Raynauld had been standing in the town square for going on an hour now, loudly ringing this bell and shouting boisterously about his God - Lasivia or somesuch. He had started on the hour and showed no sign of stopping.[break][break] Turns out preaching to NPCs was a bad idea, though - they couldn't respond![break][break] "Awaken yourselves to Her love! She asks so little and gives so much! Why turn your back on love?"[break][break] It was rapidly becoming understandable why no one was taking the offer - he sounded like a nut, or worse - a Jehovah's Witness. How long was he going to be at this, anyway?[break][break] aleu

wandering the streets of the town of origins had become aleu's pastime since entering the game. the girl had spent most of her time in the hub town, not daring to stray too far for too long. even after the attack from the fire dragon, the lycanthrope still felt like this was the safest place to be. the dragon had been taken down quickly, even if he had managed to burn down most of the houses and buildings. the npcs had managed to rebuild most of the town, but bits and pieces of still remained charred and broken: the aftermath of this dangerous game. as she was passing the town square, the ringing of a bell and a loud voice caught her attention. he seemed to be speaking of some deity, but aleu couldn't be quite sure. curious, the girl wandered closer to the sound until she found where it was coming from. no one seemed to be interested in what the boy had to say, but the girl was. coming to stand in front of the boy, she asked, "may i ask who you're talking about?"

For the first time in the past hour, the awful ringing noise from the bell stopped as Raynauld turned almost too quickly to face his addressee.[break][break] "Ho! You're the first person all week to ask!" Oh, that couldn't have been a good sign... "I speak, of course, of She to whom I am in service of - Lasivia, She of Fated Love! With her ten thousand hands, she measures all the strings that bind those who are to fall in love with one-another and ensures their fateful meeting, union, and eventual happiness!"[break][break] The state of deific worship in this game seemed to be nebulous at best - either Raynauld was a lunatic or a scammer. Or maybe it was something related to his class? Crusader implied a religious tone, after all... Did this game let you create deities? How wild.[break][break] "But alack, Lasivia's followers are spread thin. In fact, I think it might just be me." Given how long he'd been ringing the bell, that seemed obvious. "But now you speak to me, friend! Praytell, who are you? I am Raynauld, knight in servce to Lasivia - but you knew that already."[break][break] aleu

aleu listened with wide eyes as the boy spoke of his goddess. at first he sounded like one of those people who would knock on the door and try to sell you their religion, but the girl wasn't sure this was like that. for as long as they'd been trapped in this game, a number of days in which the lycanthrope lost count of, she'd had yet to hear of any sort of deity. this lasivia that he was telling her about seemed to be quite interesting. it reminded her of a story she heard before she entered the game, something called the red string of fate. it was something she'd always been interested in, maybe his goddess was related like that. the girl felt bad for the boy who introduced himself to her as raynauld. he was the only one in this game of hundreds of people who followed this deity. "my name is aleu." she replied to him. "your goddess seems very interesting." she stood there for a second, not knowing what else to say, but not wanting to leave him here alone to ring his bell and continue trying to get other's attnetion. "is there anything else you could tell me about her? is there a special place you worship her?"

"Hm!" Raynauld smiled, "A curious one. Very well, then, let me see about the scriptures!"[break] This was gonna be a long one, wasn't it...?[break] "Well, as most deific origins go, the world was without form. Empty, a void. And then suddenly there was everything, a mass of sensations all at once! The world had formed, and with that came a panoply of Gods from every region and civilization to explain their world to them. Such was the power of worship, thus the deities were formed. Lasivia is but one of these figures.[break] "The legends say Lasivia taught passion to the people of her culture, but the people first had trouble understanding it. They would roil amongst each other openly and without care for the sacred rituals. Furious, She nearly cursed the people of her land until the King of the Gods intervened. With help from their child, the rituals were distributed to the people, and thus we have the concept of marriage. To mark who is fated to undergo such a trial, Lasivia and her daughters began to sew the crimson threads that marked all the people of her land."[break] ... He'd really planned this out, hadn't he...?[break] "As for prayer? Oh, I mostly just handle it at the Origins Church down the road," He pointed to it with his free arm, "They don't seem to mind." He shrugged, "If I'm not close enough I just lay down a mat where I am when there's no monsters around and handle my prayers there - works well enough, you know?"[break] aleu

aleu listened with wide eyes as the boy told her about his goddess. in the real world, aleu had never been interested in any sort of god or goddess or religion of any sort, but she was always intrigued by this sort of thing. the girl wonder if this was a goddess that was worshiped in the real world, or if she was one that raynauld worshiped himself. she thought the question too rude to ask, so instead she made a note to look up the goddess when she got out of this game. if she got out of the game. the lycanthrope was even more surprised to find that there was a church in this city. as much time as she spent here, she'd never wandered into the battle. she let out a small chuckle. "i understand." monsters were everywhere. it was hard to ever catch a break if you weren't in one of the towns scattered across the map. "are you going to worship anytime soon?" she could feel that awkward question leave her lips before she could even stop herself. "could i watch?"

"Worship? No, I'm afraid my prayers were done for the day," Raynauld shook his head, "I make sure to do them every time at seven hundred hours, sharp. It keeps me in some semblance of routine. Maybe if we're ever in the same area again it could be possible."[break] Routine? No, that made sense - Ever since being stuck in this game, one could have very easily lost track of their self in the virtual world where literally anything was possible. Maybe that was Raynauld's way of retaining some semblance of his real-world connections? Though, that now raised questions about the boundaries between the real and the virtual...[break] Thankfully, they could consider literally anything else instead.[break] "Well, today was pretty much a bust too outside of you talking to me," Raynauld scratched his head, "Guess I'll pack my things up and try again later. Maybe at that city on the coast..." So even he traveled. No surprises later. Was he actually planning to start now, though? It was getting rather late.[break] aleu

the lycanthrope was sad that she couldn't watch how he worshiped to his goddess, but she was glad that he didn't take the question as awkward. he could have yelled at her, some people think worship to be a private manner, so the girl was happy that she didn't offend him with her questions. still though, she was curious. it was a routine he kept up with everyday. she wondered if something like that would help her stay sane in this game. if anything, maybe going to the church and to just speaking to whatever god there is would help her make the days until she gets to leave this game pass. "you're leaving?" she felt the question came out as desperate, but it wasn't often that the girl got to talk to other players like this. the only time she really talked to others was in battle. she didn't want to say she was lonely but she knew it was true. she wouldn't ask him to stay around if he didn't want to, though, after all, they were strangers. "i'm sure hitting all the main cities around gargantua would be a good idea..."

"I am," Raynauld nodded, "There's a big world here, and I've to be accustomed to it if survival be my goal." So, he did have ideals after all, and was at least aware of the state of this game and his existence within it. "My first plan is hit the forest biome, then the desert and the sea. I'll be saving that heathenous swampland for last."[break] The last sentence came out with a surprising amount of venom for the religious boy. Maybe he just believed anywhere with a city known as the Underworld was a Godless land.[break] "I don't know if our travels will see us pass again, fair Aleu, but until the day we meet again I will pray for your continued survival within this realm." Raynauld picked up his things and began to walk off, briskly. If she should so wish, there was still time for her to want to travel with him, or ask that one more thing if she desired.[break] aleu

the girl flinched at the venom that seeped from his words. he was so serious about his class, aleu wondered if he was some highly intelligent form of missionary npc who traveled around from place to place. she knew that that couldn't be true, but she couldn't help the thought that crossed her mind. most people she met didn't care to play their role. even she didn't play up to the role she created for herself. that's why it was so surprising to run into someone like this, and it was hard to believe that he was even a real person. aleu watched as the man collected his belongings, saying his farewells and walking quickly away. aleu didn't know know what to say. should she go after him, or should she stay where she was and just watch him walk away? she went with the later, not knowing what she would say or do if she were to chase after him. the only thing she said as he was getting further and further away was a simple, "goodbye..."raynauld i know it's been awhile, but i figured i should end this oops
