GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY For a long moment, all Catharsis was aware of was pain. He was never sure whether the ability to take more pain than was normal before dying was lenience on the dev's part, or pure sadism. Given that physics damage had been implemented, he was currently leaning towards the later. He let out a groan, not really sure where the traitor was but certain he was probably in a similar state, given how tangled they'd been during their fall down the stairs. Without thinking about much more than his own pain, he opened up the well of tranquility, the healing ebbing away his pain over time. If Ghost was nearby, the same would be applied to him. Slowly, he tried to sit up, before he rested back and held a hand over his eyes. This was where he should get back up and try to run back up the stairs, but they were already in the basement so he figured he might as well commit to his fate now. He was too mad to actually ask if Ghost was okay, so he decided to listen for any signs of life instead. He froze when he heard something that was not human, some kind of drawn out breathing farther away into the basement. Yeah, they were as good as dead, he was sure of it.

He initially planned to prank Cat by having them take a step into the basement then getting them out immediately. What he failed to take into consideration was Cat's mad scramble for freedom that ultimately, caused them to tumble down the steps. It was hard to tell how far down the basement was when everything surrounding him was pitch black. Last thing he remembered was seeing Cat's 'I made a mistake' look followed by his own face hitting the cold ground.[break][break] Ghost coughed, nearly wheezing when he came back to his senses, pushing himself up from the ground. As disoriented as he was, he knew for a fact that he needed to immediately wash himself off of whatever the ground was covered in be it dust or dirt. He grimaced at the thought of his hair being dusted by the unknown filth that he had just touched. He was in a desperate need of a mirror or better yet, anti-bacterial hand wipes. The male frowned, standing up to pat himself off of any potential coatings of dust.[break][break] Looking around, he could hardly see in front of his own face as he was greeted with nothing but thick darkness. Holding his hands out in front of him as a guide, Ghost began his search for his friend who should honestly be nearby. " Hey, Cat? Hey, where are you?" he called out. Instead of a human answer, he was answered back with a low rumble almost like a growl. " Listen, I know you're mad, but that's so dramatic of you," he joked. GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY He heard Ghost call for him, but was too pissed and in too much physical pain to actually answer. Just when he finally decided to get over himself and clear his throat as he used Ghost's voice as a measurement for where it'd be safe to stand up - an arm folded above his head just in case - he heard the growl and paused in his ascent. It didn't really matter; his shoes still scraped at the cold hard floor beneath him, so he stood instead. Ghost's joke would have been funnier if Cat knew what that was right now, but he couldn't see and- Oh, right. He pulled open his inventory, retrieving his Faywood Spirit and plopping the owlrabbit thing into his shoulder. In the dark, the light purple creature sniffed at the air as its ... ears? cast a faint glow across the unlit basement. He braced himself but knew that most of the time the thing you couldn't see was far worse than what you could. He glanced at Ghost and dusted off the front of his own shirt just looking at the guy, before looking down and in front of him to see- A goose. A goose stared up at them, honking the moment Cat was about to say something about it. "Well- that's not so bad." He started, not knowing any better. That left him worried about what had growled, then, though - until the sound came again ... from the goose? "What?" Cat asked sharply, not knowing what to do with this information. Seriously, what the fuck? Who got paid for this?

At first, his reaction was to point out the weird creature on Cat's shoulder. After a moment of processing the situation, he finally got the message that yeah, the strange thing was their light source. Ghost shook his head unsure of what to make of the man's collecting habits. It was as if he had an obsession with owl spliced monsters. First the owlbear and now, an owlrabbit? He couldn't tell which was worse.[break][break] Ghost raised an eyebrow at Cat's gaze directly behind him, whatever he was looking at, it had captivated his attention. The Phantom turned on his heel to take a look as well, his eyes meeting a duck's? It honked at him, flapping it's wings before letting out the same rumbling sound he heard earlier. Huh. He bent over to reach out at the shiny attachment to it's green collar, flipping it back and forth in his palm. " I think...this is the animal we have to look after," he said after careful inspection of the golden tag. He stifled a laugh, " it's called Harold!" Ghost started to howl into a laughing fit. " Harold!" he repeated mid-laugh, wheezing. GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY So, he'd known from the gaudy chandeliers that the owners of the mansion weren't supposed to have any taste. That didn't mean he'd expected them to choose, out of everything available to them in this fantasy world, a goose for a pet. When Ghost shouted out its name, he was further disappointed, however. No taste at all. He heard a beep, bringing him out of the immersion a bit as he pulled up the quest log and saw the addendum: protect Carl and Harold. He blinked, frowning. "Who the fuck is Carl?" Before he could even finish his question, though, Harold let out a loud honk that devolved into another growl, apparently not only aware he was being laughed at but offended. The goose charged towards Phantom, ready to decimate his bully. Catharsis took a long step back rather than help the man who had betrayed him, looking around for whatever might be Carl. It was probably another pet with another unfortunate name. Since a new location hadn't been updated, it was probably nearby, whatever it was ...

The male whimpered, blowing on the area he was bit to cool off the pain. He wasn't even given the chance to tend to his wounds when the vicious creature began to attack him. It growled and honked aggressively, flapping it's wings like a madman. It snapped a few times at the air before taking aim for his ankles. He jumped back with a hiss, imitating a cat clawing at the air to make an equally aggressive display.[break][break] " Harold, you have no manners. None," he scolded, jabbing a finger at the duck's direction. It again lunged at him, attempting to bite his finger off. The Phantom withdrew the finger immediately before he risked losing it. The duck was unrelentless in it's assault as it flew straight for him and in an act of self defense, Ghost opened up a portal in front of himself, transporting the duck elsewhere. He breathed out slowly almost sure he nearly got mauled to death by an ill-mannered pet.[break][break] It was at that moment that another notification alerted him of changes. He nearly forgot that they had accidentally completed the previous check point. His expression fell at the details particularly, the protecting Harold part. From what he saw, Harold could protect himself just fine nearly glossing over the name, Carl. If it wasn't for Cat's rough phrasing of the question, he would've neglected to acknowledge it. [break][break] " Hm?" Ghost looked down towards Cat's shoes, staring at what looked to be a pudgey chicken. It clucked once, twice, then continued about it's business: untying Cat's shoes. The chicken pecked at the Empath's laces, taking one into it's beak. It busied itself oblivious to the two strangers in it's presence, not paying attention to either.[break][break] " I think we found Carl," Ghost smirked. GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY Catharsis blinked when he heard a clucking, looking down to see his shoelaces being eaten for the sake of Ghost's amusement. He growled, shoving the chicken away from him with the slightest nudge from his boot as he could imagine, but when he tried to pull his foot back and away the thing just grabbed back onto one of his shoelaces like it thought it was a worm escaping. "Oh, eat a dick." He complained, having to deign to actually physically kneel down to push away the chicken. On his shoulder, the faywood spirit squeaked in small alarm, the light purple glow cast around the room ebbing temporarily into darkness. A sharp pain and he howled, the light filling the room to show the thing had taken to biting his hand instead. He sprang back up, shaking his hand. "Who actually wants a chicken or a goose as a pet." He asked, angry. "Out of everything they can get, all of the fantasy shit they could turn to, and this is what they come up with?" He wasn't sure he'd actually want to babysit a unicorn, don't get him wrong, but this was ridiculous. He lifted his leg to try to retie the shoelace without interruption, squinting over at where Harold used to be. "Where'd you even put that thing?"Who needed protecting, again?

He had done nothing wrong, he only protected himself. " I honestly haven't a single clue. I dropped it somewhere outside the basement door," he admitted bluntly. His head tilted up towards the staircase that they had fallen from, a small light shone in from the crack of the door. From there, he heard alarmed honking from what he could only assume as Harold. Judging by the sounds of it, Harold wasn't alone.[break][break] " Let's go pick up our paycheck," Ghost sighed opening another portal for them to walk through. It was much quicker than using the worn out wooden steps. He glanced down at Cat, pointing towards the fat hen with a smile. " Don't forget our food stamps," he grinned indirectly assigning Cat to chicken-sitting duties. He didn't feel like picking up the seemingly heavy bird that probably weighed as much as a chubby puppy.[break][break] " I think there's something under that chicken," Ghost pointed out, after the chicken shifted itself, stubbornly tugging at the Empath's pant sleeve. GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY Catharsis knew that what Ghost had done had technically deviated from the quest objective, but he also couldn't really be brought to care. "Yeah, okay." He said, before he set eyes on the portal and immediately cast a suspicious gaze towards the Phantom. "... Actually, you know, I'll walk. You go on ahead." Yeah, okay. As if he would ever fall for that again for the rest of his short life. He sighed as the chicken tugged on his pants, slowly letting his foot lower so that he could balance himself while he picked up the chicken, only to immediately drop it. Underneath the chicken was a golden fucking egg. Oh. That'd explain it. All of it. Cat scooped up the egg, pocketing it away without a second thought or a word into his inventory, y'know, for safety. It was only after that was secure that he picked up the chicken - wasn't it the goose that was supposed to - whatever. He stared flatly over at Ghost, before tucking the chicken under his arm while it pecked at him - ugh, if only there was a way to make them relax or something. With nothing to hold him back and no intention of going through Ghost's portal, he went ahead to walk up the stairs.

He wasn't mad nor offended that his kind offer was rejected. He knew that it was well deserved considering the series of unfortunate events after his prank. Something just told him that this was going to be a reoccurring pattern. He turned his back to go through his portal alone almost sure he heard a small squawk from the chicken. The Phantom didn't bother to turn around to check, assuming it was Cat picking up the fussy bird.[break][break] Stepping outside the other end of the portal, he scanned the area for any signs of intruders. He didn't have to look hard to take notice of vases shattered on the ground. Well, that was concerning. He contemplated his choices which consisted of waiting for Cat to slowly walk up the stairs or to go on ahead to look for Harold. The former sounded much nicer to him.[break][break] The Phantom leaned himself back against the wall right next to the door leading down to the basement. He crossed his arms patiently, humming a simple tune to pass the time. He looked up towards the grand staircase, sure that he saw something flash by the corner of his eye. Sure enough, there were a pair of pygmy goblins carrying Harold down the opposite hall, the one they had yet to explore. [break][break] Now they had a lead to go on at least.[break][break] Ghost waved four of his fingers at the distressed Harold, struggling and biting at it's kidnappers as they darted out of sight. GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY It was the farthest thing from the truth that Cat actually wanted to walk up all of those floors himself, but even if he had been ready to trust that Phantom would take them where he said he would there was a point to be made. He was not at all a fan of being alone in his walk up the stairs with a pulsing light source that went away in flashes, but he didn't exactly have a choice. He couldn't say the chicken's pecking at him in protest helped lighten the mood any, either. Were they even supposed to move the pets up from the basement? Too late now, he supposed. Cat went on to push the door the rest of the way open with his shoulder to see a complete mess. He stared around him at all the cracked vases, with no sign of Harold, before he stared sharply at Ghost who had apparently been oh-so-innocently waiting for him. "What the hell did you do, man?" He asked accusingly, because honestly what else was he supposed to think happened to Harold? Then he heard a distressed honk in another room, and turned his face to stare at the door. "Oh." Well, at least the thing was still alive. That was something.

It wasn't me!" He protested, pointing a finger upstairs. " The pygmy goblins did it," he whined feeling not at all too happy about the accusation. He heard another distressed honk upstairs leading him to stare at Cat. The man offered an 'oh' in no way apologetic in tone as he stared up at where Harold was supposedly kept. At least, he understood the situation now.[break][break] Ghost rubbed at his chin before speaking, " should we run upstairs to heroically free the duck in distress?" He wasn't sure what Cat was thinking, but figured it was worth asking. " We wouldn't want to play hostage negotiation if we can help it." Chances were they would be asked to trade in Carl for Harold, a bad trade. Ghost started to pace in a small circle while he thought things over, ignoring the cries for help from upstairs. " Harold can hold them off while we think of something better," Ghost assured his friend with a should tap. GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY Catharsis could ignore Ghost's offense at what he'd done if Ghost could do the same over Cat's feelings about the portal, so he did just that and paid his whining no attention as he stared up at the room the goose's honking had come from. Pygmy goblins? That didn't sound so bad. "I mean, I'm pretty sure we'll fail the quest if we don't do anything." Catharsis said, although he wasn't all that invested in the quest to begin with. Honestly, they could just leave. He stared blankly at Ghost, watching him quietly for a few minutes. "I mean, we're probably supposed to just kill them." He remarked before he realized the problem with that: neither of them were probably about to have an easy time of it. "... You didn't really get a new offensive skill, did you?" he asked, somewhat disappointed. Why had he believed him? Why had he believed him about any of this? Catharsis put a free hand over his face while Clark or whatever the fuck his name was continued his distressed clucking. "Whatever. Let's just go and hope for the best." He announced, heading up towards the stairs. "Unless you think you can just portal in, grab the goose and get out?" He offered with a hopeful pause. Maybe he wouldn't need to do any fighting after at all ...?

Maybe it might have been wrong of him to overestimate Harold's prowess. " Let's be on our way~" he announced in a sing-song voice, skipping ahead of his friend. He paused, however at the question, turning around to look at the man in the eyes. " I did," he corrected, rolling his eyes at Cat's reaction; it was fine if he didn't believe him. Ghost never gave him a reason to after all and time and time again, he would come around. He didn't doubt the 'portal incident' would be forgotten sooner or later, hopefully the former.[break][break] He was about to continue on his quest to free the captive bird until Cat's suggestion froze him in place. He held up a finger before turning around to confront the man on why that was a bad idea. " Oh, no, no. We are not doing that," he said quickly, shaking his head and crossing his arms in an x shape. " I could, but I won't." He stared at the red eyes with unyielding determination before another slew of honks cracked his will. He caved in without a word from Cat.[break][break] Ghost mumbled as he disappeared into his portal, entering the room where the noisy thing was held. The pygmy goblins cooed at the tied down duck, offering it snacks and attempting to pet it only for it to retaliate ferociously. He wasn't quite sure what had caused him to lock eyes with Harold, but it quickly unraveled into a mistake. The distressed duck started to buck and screech when it saw him as if he were blind. Of course, the pygmy goblins turned around instantly to face him, cackling away as they held ropes. [break][break] " No, no, no," he said quietly, backing himself into the closed door. He tried his best to fumble at the lock without looking, failing to notice that the door was actually nailed shut. For once, he wanted to curse out at Catharsis. Whipping himself around, Ghost had one leg raised against the door frame for leverage as he pulled at the knob with both hands. Nothing, it wouldn't even budge! The male swallowed, a feeling a sense of dread wash over him. Next thing he knew, he was wrapped with thick rope and tossed right next to the shrieking duck. Great.[break][break] " CAT! I DID IT! I DESTROYED THEM BUT I CAN'T OPEN THE DOOR! I'M WOUNDED AND TIRED!" Ghost yelled at the top of his lungs. God, please.
