[attr="class","sv1"] [attr="class","sv2"] [attr="class","sv4"] [attr="class","sv3"]So don't call me baby, unless you mean it, don't tell me you need me If you don't believe it, so let me know the truth before I dive right into you.
In every RPG, there was always that one quest that everyone hated. Typically it was the escort quest where the player was tasked with safely transporting something from one place to another. Those quests usually came with a huge headache since half the time the NPC was either stopping, running around in a panic, or trying to fight monsters with weapons and armor weaker than player starting gear. No one liked escort missions and if it could be avoided, nine times out of ten, they were going to be skipped. Or it was timed quests where you had a certain amount of time to do a task before you failed it. The anxiety that came with trying to complete a task as the timer counted down was nerve-wracking. Who played video games to feel miserable?
However, the mission they were currently about to take on would take the cake. Being trapped in a game did nothing for their funds. Before getting trapped here, earning money had been a simple grind or a mission or two. Now, there was an element of danger to it. Going out and taking on the dungeons had a risk of death to them now. Leaving the town had risk of death. Everything about the game had risks now that he didn’t want to be a part of. So to be on the safe side, he suggested they go through one of the towns and see what quests they could do in town.
But now...
Noel’s eyebrows furrowed together as he stared suspiciously at the quest that was floating in front of him. The NPC was smiling and staring at them unnervingly as the computer program waited for one of them to hit accept under the quest information. “I-,” He began but closed his mouth instead, turning around to look at the other male with a grimace. The quest was stupid and would take the entire day to complete. It was almost like an escort quest except they were trying to get NPCs and players to come towards the beachfront. Plus he wasn’t a fan of the amount of people that would show up. “This mission is going to take forever to complete. We can do two missions in half the time this one will take.”
Noel turned his back on the npc and instead faced his friend, gesturing further down the road of the town. “Let’s go see if anyone else has anything up right now.”

there was hesitation from both parties. he, who hovered a finger over the two options so neatly laid out before him -- and of noel, face stained in dissatisfaction at what the other was trying to drag him into. theo had read over description of an all day excursion twice now, having only looked away when the boy at his side began to speak. everything noel wished to say was written in his expression; in the way his eyes narrowed to the direction his lips turned when he frowned. if he had been born a better man theo would have given in the second he noticed, taken action to close the quest before him and allow the npc to retreat back in wait for another pair to take on their task. but … he hadn’t -- and so he waited, an eager expression contrasting the one being given to him.
noels’ reasoning wasn’t wrong. with everything this quest had laid out it’d be a long day ahead of them ; and, while the rewards were good, the effort they’d need to put in didn’t quite add up. “you’re right,” theo mused, ignoring the gesture to move or even look past where he stood. while this quest would surely be (in some sense) a waste of their time, there was something on theos mind he couldn’t quite shake as he stayed, rooted in place with a smile he couldn’t hide. this quest would bring the two to the beach-- a whole day of fun in the sun, amidst the white sand and waves. but, most of all, they’d need to wear the appropriate attire for such a time. which, in the simplest of terms, meant noel in a bathing suit -- and that … that would be worth all the trouble.
before the other could react theo pressed his finger against the accept button, ignoring the disappearing screen before them and the large letters spelling out the now pending status of an active quest. he could hear the npc saying something; a pre-installed speech that theo could care less about. “oh nooo… i hit the wrong button,” theo said, composing his smile in an attempt to look genuinely surprised. even in his best attempts noel would be able to see right through him and now, with lips parted up in a half hidden grin and his eyes screaming of some inside joke he wasn’t about to share -- the idea of trying to hide his intentions were laughable at best. “i … i guess we have no choice now but to do this quest. if only i had paid more attention to what i was clicking.”

There was too much contrast between their faces for Noel to feel comfortable with. He noticed Theo’s way too eager expression as his hand hovered over the acceptance button for the quest. He noticed the way his eyes seemed to zero in on the quest and nowhere else. He could almost see the wheels turning in Theo’s head as the other man thought of something that Noel probably would have hit him for. They had known each other long enough for Noel to see when Theo was thinking of something and idea was lodged in his head. It was why he even suggested they try other quests in the area; at least he could try to reason with the other before he decided to go along with whatever planned he had conjured up in his head.
Sadly, he wasn’t convincing enough. Noel glanced over at Theo when he agreed that he was right, looking right at his friend’s smile and the way his eyes didn’t shift in the direction he was pointing. “Don’t do it. I swear if-” He knew it was coming. He wasn’t surprised at all when the other’s finger pressed the acceptance button on the quest. With the NPC going through the quest dialogue, it gave him enough time to slowly turn towards the Vice and glare. He didn’t want to hear Theo’s excuses nor did he care. He could see right through the other’s act of being genuinely surprised by what happened. Noel resisted the urge to scream.
He stood still as Theo ‘lamented’ about the way he accidentally pressed the wrong button and how they had no choice but to do the quest. “Oh I have a choice.” He reached a hand forward and began to open his menu. He knew the other would be able to recognize the familiar screen and see what he was doing. Bringing up the party menu, Noel hovered his hand over the Disband Party button. His eyes turned to glare at Theo as he inched closer to pressing the button, making it very clear how he felt about him right now. “Oh no, my hand is about to slip too. Must be a glitch or something. Or it could be that someone in the party thought it would be okay to accept a quest without talking it out first. Maybe we should disband and see if it helps.”

theo knew the second he even contemplated accepting the quest that he’d be in bad standing with noel. the look that had been plastered all over the boy's face had screamed all the words he’d hear in due time. noels attempt to stop his finger from pressing accept had fallen on deaf ears. theo had already found his drive, a self-proclaimed goal of the day, and he was going to do whatever it took to achieve it. despite the way noel was looking at him theo felt proud of himself (probably more than he should). it showed in his eyes and in the way he held himself as he waited for noels actual reaction. would he yell at him? hit him? maybe both ; or even neither, and noel would instead refuse to talk to him for a good hour or so.
“what are you doing?”
he had been expecting everything besides what noel had chosen to do in response to his little stunt. his voice dropped to silence as theo watched, eyes following the menus appearing before noel as he made his way to the party information and towards the disband button. it was only when noel glared at him and began to talk that theo looked away, returning the same glare that stared him down. “don’t you dare,” theo murmured, intimidation falling to downhearted hesitation. he waited -- listening to noel talk all the while glancing at how close his finger was to the button. he could get noel back in the party. there was no way noel would say no and leave him all alone to finish this quest… right?
“stop!” theo shouted, possibly a little too loud than need be. he didn’t want to take the chance of having noel leave and not come back; plus, he’d need as much help as possible to complete the quest. in a quick motion theo reached out, grabbing noel by his other arm to pull him near, attempting to (at least) throw him off balance enough to where he wasn’t as close to leaving as before. “don’t leave,” theo started, “the quest isn’t even that bad. we’ll get it done, no problem-- i promise.”

There was a small amount of amusement surfacing as his finger lingered over the menu button. It was so easy to leave and then come back when Theo decided that the quest wouldn’t be worth the effort alone. Even with the two of them, it would take the entire day; something he had been trying to tell Theo before the other accepted the quest. Noel knew that Theo knew that he had messed up. It was in the way the other male questioned what he was doing and when his glare faltered from intimidation to hesitation. He wanted to drag it out a little more, knowing that eventually Theo might cave and they could move on without spending an entire day talking to people. Added on to the fact that Noel thought it was funny to mess with him just as much as Theo did with him.
Theo’s shout surprised him and he wasn’t prepared for the tug on his arm. With a small noise of protest, Noel’s hands came out to balance himself so he wouldn’t fall face first to the ground. His hands swept through the screen and managed to hit the button just as he steadied himself. “Hey, you shouldn’t be surprised at this!” He yelled in protest and glared in the other’s direction. However before he could continue, a small popup appeared in front of his face making him reel back in surprise.
“...” Noel stared at the menu as the words saying the party disbanded came on the screen. “Oh,” was the only thing he could say as he stared as the menu disappeared from view and he was left looking at Theo’s username. “My hand slipped.” However, Noel was telling the truth. An amused smile appeared on his face as he looked towards Theo, knowing he was not happy in the slightest. At least he could have a small moment of revenge. “I guess I can’t do the quest with you now. We should probably split up anyway that way we can get twice the funds. Don’t you agree?”

this was all such a huge overreaction. theo didn’t need to grab noels arm like this, nor did he need to pull him over to try and get his hand away from the disband screen. but in the moment he was desperate, careless and still a little amused over the whole situation. it wasn’t his intention to cause noel to fall and, as he watched the boy steady himself, theo let go just as quick as he had reached out. noels words were met with a silent glare, a partially open mouth to say some witty retort his mind soon dismissed at the sight of the screen before noel and the soft ping of an alert in his ear. from his periphery he could see the familiar information of his party members stats gone, leaving nothing in its place except a small reminder that he was on his own.
it didn’t take much to realize what had happened, but when he stared -- eyes trained on that amused look being given to him -- theo couldn’t believe it had happened. in a moment of stunned silence theo stood, words failing to reach his tongue as he opened his mouth to speak, only to close it a few seconds after. in the minute that passed theo stayed, rooted in place with eyes trained on his friend. without even looking at himself theo knew how he looked; crestfallen and pouty -- and the mere thought of that alone made him glare down his friend.
“sorry, can’t help you. i only talk to party members.” theo said, ignoring the tone in his voice and the reminder of how childish he was acting raising in the back of his mind. even if it was right noel had started it. “if you want you could join up with me. you don’t seem as mean as this one guy who was in my party before.”

It’s not like he meant to press the button and disband their party. In the moment between Theo pulling his arm to him trying to stop himself from falling on his face, his finger managed to slip and hit the button without him noticing. He had wanted to drag it out a little and mess with the other for pulling that stunt. As much as Theo loved to mess with him, Noel was the same way and liked to watch the other squirm when he knew he had somehow fucked up. However, somehow he had managed to go through with his threat and as he watched the menu disappear from view, he knew this was going to end with him caving in.
The moment he saw Theo realize what just happened, he knew he was going to have to deal with the other’s attitude. He watched as slowly Theo’s eyes looked at him and watched as his expression fell and he began to pout. “Don’t.” Noel warned, glaring at the pouty expression on his friend’s face. He didn’t want to deal with it. Theo needed to know he deserved this and he shouldn’t act surprised that he didn’t disband the party sooner. As Theo spoke, Noel’s scowl fell and turned to one of disbelief. “But you’re the one who started it! How am I being mean?”
Noel stood still for a second, not wanting to cave because of his friend’s antics. He didn’t want to give Theo the satisfaction of knowing that if he pouted enough, he could get his way. But as he stood there glaring at the other, his gaze started to falter and he slowly turned his eyes to the floor. He knew he was going to regret the decision for the rest of the day. With a heavy sigh, Noel opened the party menu again and sent an invite to Theo, still finding the floor a lot more interesting than seeing what expression his friend would have on his face. “Stop pouting at me. I didn’t meant to close the party. Let’s just hurry up and finish this stupid quest.” He didn’t want to acknowledge the fact that all Theo had to do was whine at him for him to give in.

Just as before Theo didn’t listen to the others words, letting the simple command to stop fall flat and into short lived silence. He was just as stubborn as Noel and they both knew it. Theo wasn’t about to give up, even if the cause for their current situation had been of his own doing. Despite the question (one of which he assumed to be rhetorical) Theo quickly decided no answer was the best choice; and so he stood, unmoving in wait for his friend to finally come to his senses and give in. It was (like he had guessed) Noel who faulted first. Their gaze left one another for a moment but from their Noels whole attitude began to crumble and Theo, while entirely amused and rather satisfied that he had ‘won’ this argument, did his best to not gloat just yet.
A soft ping flooded his senses as an alert appeared before him, and only than did his glare end as his eyes left Noel. The bolded text caught his attention first, then the two options below. Accept or deny. Now, he thought, it was time to gloat. With a finger gently pressed against his bottom lip, musing over the options presented to him, Theo took his time as his friend spoke. A small glance up at the boys face was all he gave in response, quickly returning to the puzzling question before his eyes. “Don’t rush me please, I’m picky with who I want in my party... and after my last friend so rudely left me all alone, well ... I’m in a vulnerable state.” Theo knew the moment the words began to leave his mouth that he would regret pushing Noel; but it was hard to stop once he started. Maybe it was a guilty pleasure to see his friend upset like this from his own doing. “Do you think you’ll be able to keep me safe? I’m just a humble support ... and I’ll need someone to keep me safe and not leave me all by myself in the middle of a battle or say, right after I accepted a fun quest for us to do…” There was a small sense of bitterness in his tone near the end of his little performance, a small pout on his lips as he eyed Noel with the same amused expression in his eyes as he had the second he accepted the quest. “You know, for example.”

He hated that he had caved so easily. He should have been used to the way they acted around one another for him to have lasted a little bit longer against Theo’s pouty expression. But a part of him did feel a little bad for disbanding the party, even if it had been an accident on his part. But he couldn’t help but tease his friend as payback for the way he accepted the quest despite his protests. He could admit it was a guilty pleasure to see Theo pout but the attitude that came with it was a minor drawback. And as he watched Theo continue to play around with the party invite and pretend he wasn’t going to join again, Noel knew Theo was going to drag this out for as long as he could.
As the other continued to talk, Noel’s eyes raised from the floor and unto his friend, his expression clearly showing his growing irritation with the way this was being played out. “Are you serious?” Noel mumbled as he glared over at Theo in disbelief. He had already apologized and had explained to him clearly that he hadn’t meant to disband the party. But as much as Theo wanted to drag their little trivial game out, he was having none of it. “Fine. I’ll go do something by myself since apparently I’m not good enough for you.” It was dumb and kind of laughable the way he sounded. But Noel could be just as bitter as his friend and the other knew it. He didn’t want to say he didn’t have any patience because he did; it was the reason why he had put up with a lot of shit in his life. But he already didn’t want to do the quest and the last thing he wanted to do was go out and hunt monsters for money. So town quests were their only option right now. But Theo had chosen one of the worsts quests in the town and while he really didn’t want to, he would put up with it for Theo.
But now….
Whether or not Theo accepted the party invite or not didn’t matter to him anymore. A swipe of the hand and the menu disappeared, leaving Noel glaring at his friend in annoyance. “I was going to do this stupid quest with you but I think I’ll just head back instead. You know, since I’m going to leave you and everything.” With one last glower at his friend, Noel turned and walked off, heading back to the inn they shared. He didn’t want to bother doing another quest; not when his mood was shitty and Theo wouldn’t be with him.

This wasn’t the first time Theo had pushed Noel just a tad too far, and with his self-destructive nature it wouldn't be the last either. It was their own, odd little game. A playful back and forth of taunts and provoked reactions neither of them wanted to lose; but in the end one had to give in. He should have just accepted the party request once it had appeared, not drag it out as much as he had to see that reaction he loved so much. But, with Noel's glare glued to him until the boy turned to leave, it was hard to imagine why he wouldn’t keep this up. The tone that came with Noel's harsh words, how just utterly bitter to blonde seemed to be; it was laughable in the cutest of ways.
“Don’t be like that,” Theo started, words stuttered out between choked back laughs. “Come on, I was just joking.” He figures Noel wouldn’t listen to him no matter what protests he made; so, he’d have to force the boy to forgive him as always. Quickly he swipes his finger against the accept button, silently pleased as he watches the normal, familiar screens appear before his eyes. Caritas. Noel. Just a few feet away from him, all upset and displeased by his antics.
A few strides forward was all it took to bring Theo next to Noel and, once there, he leaned against the angry boy at his side, nudging their arms together. “I know you wouldn’t leave me,” Theo chuckled, tilting his head in a way where he might be able to catch Noel’s eyes. “You love me too much to do that.” There’s a moment of silence between his words, his gaze leaving Noel to look forward in the direction they were headed towards. He had ultimately lost this round, something he’d come back to later on when their little game continued again at another time. But for now he’d need to bow his head in defeat and bring his friends mood back up. “I’m sorry, please don’t be upset.”

He was acting like a child that didn’t get his way. Noel knew the moment he groused at Theo for the way he was acting that he was going to want to take it back. He didn’t want to be moody and pissed off on a day they were supposed to get things done. In a way, he was a little bitter that Theo managed to get under his skin so easily when usually their little game would last a little longer. He was the one that gave in first before getting angry that Theo decided to gloat over his victory. He should have expected it but that didn’t lessen the irritation he felt towards the other. He would rather sulk somewhere alone then give his friend the satisfaction of seeing him pout.
Noel could hear the choked back laughter coming from behind him and it only fueled his need to walk away a little bit faster. He continued to glare ahead and tried to ignore the pleading from behind him. He heard it before he saw it; the familiar ping from the menu and the screen that showed the current members in the party. His eyes lingered on Theo’s username for a moment longer than he should have, his anger slowly ebbing away against his will. He didn’t even notice the way his footsteps slowed down from the brisk pace he had been going. “I hate him.” It came out as a whisper- only meant for him to hear as he turned his eyes forward and away from his friend’s name.
His slow pace was his downfall and it only took a few short strides for Theo to catch up to him. A familiar weight pressed up against his side as Theo nudged their arms together, tilting his head forward to catch his eyes. Noel instantly looked down in order to avoid his gaze, still not giving his friend the satisfaction of seeing him upset over something so trivial. It was then his next words made him pause and slowly look over to stare at the other in surprise. He was thankful Theo was looking forward instead of at him...cause he would have seen the disbelief and embarrassment clear on his face. It was pretty laughable to think that Theo’s teasing and jokes managed to hit it right on the head.
You have no idea
With a small laugh, Noel looked away before the other could look back, trying to hide his face before Theo noticed he was acting strange. “I’m not upset.” Noel mumbled and shifted his body to face Theo. Cause as much as Theo gave into him, he was the same way when it came to his friend. “I..” He started to talk-- something at the tip of his tongue but quickly decided to shut up instead. He decided to go with a different approach, the same one they were used to in order to show that Theo didn’t have to worry. “I don’t know though. You’re going to have to make it up to me. I feel like you should do all the talking in this quest and treat me to food later for all the work we’re going to have to put in.”

pushing noels buttons like so was an art, a skill theo was rather proud to say he's mastered within the time they’ve known each other. he likes to think that he’s the only person in this whole world that could get under the other's skin like so. maybe it was because this was his way of flirting; and thinking that just anyone could do what he does brought a strange feeling of jealousy to the mix of his emotions. however, sometimes (or rather, very often), theo takes things just a step too far. he enjoys winning these strange back-and-forth games they play, and because of that he can never seem to stop himself from crossing the invisible line that was noel's nerves. it was all in good fun, yet still theo hoped that noel wasn’t too upset with him for not dropping his little act sooner.
he hopes that his apology will be accepted.
theo doesn’t take his eyes off the forward path they walk until noel's voice rings in his ear, and from there his whole demeanor changes. stiff shoulders relax, falling back while his lips curl into a smile. he notices the slight hesitation in noel's voice as he begins to talk but, quickly, he pushes it aside, choosing to keep their interactions rather civil for the time being. after all, it was easier to tease his friend when he wasn’t running away from him.
“you act like i wouldn’t be doing all the talking already,” he states matter-of-factly to noel's comment. out of the two theo was the most social or at least the most willing to be. “but you know what, sure. i’ll make sure to do all the talking, and later when everything’s done i’ll treat you to a very special evening.” theo's voice is playful by the end of his sentence, a smile wide as he looks down at noel. “we can call it a date! dress you up in something nice. we’ll go out to a fancy restaurant and everything, how does that sound? maybe even take a walk in the park afterwards.”

[attr="class","sv1"] [attr="class","sv2"] [attr="class","sv4"] [attr="class","sv3"]So don't call me baby, unless you mean it, don't tell me you need me If you don't believe it, so let me know the truth before I dive right into you.
There little game had ended but Noel didn’t tease Theo over his small victory. Even if he had been annoyed just a few seconds ago, it was hard to stay mad at his friend for long. The most he would have done is seethed for a few minutes before crawling back to find him. He didn’t like to be away from Theo for too long. There was no telling what hidden dangers were lurking around in the game. Ever since they’ve gotten trapped, he’s been glued to Theo’s side. They were never apart for very long with Noel’s anxiety creeping in. Even if the towns were the safe zones, he wasn’t 100% sure. It was a problem he was working on and that his friend was helping him with.
Theo was a saint in disguise and he had more patience with him than anyone he has ever known. He was with him from the very beginning; from the time he had a near panic attack once he saw all the players dying around them to staying with him in the town and taking on boring, mundane quests. He knew one day they would have to leave and go out to hunt monsters and fight. But his friend wasn’t rushing him and instead, was slowly easing him to leave the towns explore what the game had to offer. Noel couldn’t put into words how thankful he was.
Noel shifted in place, glancing up at the other as he began to talk and tease him. It brought an amused smile to his face as he listened, rolling his eyes playfully at the other’s attempts to somehow makeup their little game to them. He had only been teasing, something he knew Theo knew as well, but it didn’t stop his stomach from fluttering at the mention of date. “Is dressing in something nice involve the swim trunks you’re going to force me in while we do this mission?” Noel teased and turned in Theo’s hold to look up at him. “I don’t think I consider a special evening heading back to the inn and downing whatever food they have there half naked.” He’ll admit the food wasn’t bad there. It was actually really good. But if someone wanted the really, really good food that he’s seen some of the higher leveled players scarfing down, they were going to have to put in a little more money than they needed to.
And it wasn’t like Noel wanted to be treated; he wasn’t somebody who was spoiled and wanted to feel special. But Theo was different in the sense that when he said things like this and teased him, it made him feel special and spoiled. It was the strangest mix of happiness and embarrassment on his part.
Noel reached forward and gently pinched one of Theo’s cheeks, giving him a teasing smile as he let go before the other could try to get away. “How about this? Instead of wasting our time with that fancy restaurant and wasting the money we’re trying to earn, let’s celebrate and walk around the town a little. There’s probably places we haven’t explored yet. We haven’t been to the market and I’m sure I can find something we can cook with…” He trailed off slowly, trying to die down his excitement over something familiar like cooking. “Or we can still go if you really want to.” Either way, spending time together was the treat Noel wanted most of all.

his words, while occasionally sharp-tongued and taunting, was all in good fun. theo never once meant any harm, and while his stubbornness rivaled that of anyone he’d quickly humble himself when it came to noel’s happiness. to say that he was theo’s best friend was an understatement masking so much more. noel was his family and, in many ways, his first experience of a normal life. differences came in handfuls when comparing the two together. but it was a simple, mutual understanding that bonded them in a way theo could not find the words to describe; and oh, how he sought them out. his blatant flirtation was all he could manage and, very seldomly, theo could feel those lost words surface -- just barely breaking before disappearing in a haze of thoughts.
the scenery may have changed, their new “world” fake, but noel was the same no matter what went on around them. as the other seamlessly voiced his thoughts theos smile faded, faltering into something more guilty than it needed to be. hitting the nail on the head was an accurate way to describe how noel was able to pinpoint the ideas he’d casually pushed to the side a few moments ago. “well … the idea isn’t all bad,” he tries to protest, voice too low to even come close to being convincing. theo knows it too. he can hear how he sounds the moment the words leave his lips; and he’s too much of an open book with this to even try and hide his intentions.
but as noel moves in his grasp his grip loosens, allowing the boy to reach his hand out with ease. he knows it’s coming before noels fingers move to his cheek, pinching at his skin and retreating back before he could himself. a smile returning to his face, theo can only muster a small laugh, barely audible under his breath. he loved this kind of attention whether noel meant it to be affectionate or not.
while his teasing description of a date had originally been meant to rile the boy up theo would have held true to his end of the bargain. even when money was sparse and quests within the safe limits of the town dwindling, theo would find a way to treat noel to a night on the town and make an evening they’d both enjoy. however, with the newly voiced suggestion and the mention of noel cooking whatever they’d decide to eat, theo's mind quickly took a liking to the idea. it may not have been the cooking noel knew best, nor the definition of a home-cooked meal theo had grown to adore, but it was their version of familiarity within this strange world.
“oh come on, do you really think i would pass up a chance to eat anything you cook?” theo asked, voicing the same excitement noel had tried to hide when he spoke. “maybe i haven’t complimented you enough on your cooking to make you think i wouldn’t. is that it?”
words were difficult, lost within his mind so quickly that there are times he doubts the thoughts were ever present. there were many things he could not voice; things he couldn’t quite say in the way he wanted. but words never failed him when it came to showing noel just how amazing he was in his eyes, painting verbal images of his feelings and admiration with such ease it sometimes scared him. god had gifted him something he never knew existed until noel entered his life; and, after finding it out, never thought twice in using it.
“i know this is all just some crazy, messed up game and cooking isn’t exactly how it was back in reality … but i like to think you do something with whatever you make to have it taste better.” an open door had shown itself and, before noel could say anything, theo ran through; eager to shower noel in whatever compliment that came to mind. “i know it sounds crazy, but it’s true. there’s no other way around it.” his shoulder shrugs as he glances down at noel to smile. sooner or later his little rant of affection would end, noel quickly shutting him up in whichever way seemed best. so, he’d make the best of it while he had the chance. “plus … i know how much you like to cook, especially for me. i mean, we’re practically married so why wouldn’t you; and i absolutely adore seeing you do something you love so much.”
there’s a moment of silence as an image comes to mind. of noel standing in the kitchen of their small house, returning to finishing the meal theo had been banned from helping. it had happened too many times in the past, each incident a blur within others but cherished none the less. he missed it. “and,” he starts after a short time, “jokes aside … it kinda makes this feel like home.”

[attr="class","sv1"] [attr="class","sv2"] [attr="class","sv4"] [attr="class","sv3"]So don't call me baby, unless you mean it, don't tell me you need me If you don't believe it, so let me know the truth before I dive right into you.
Theo was an easy read. He knew from the moment the other accepted this quest that he was doing it to tease him. It wasn’t hard to guess. The male had been making passes at him from day one and putting him in swim trunks was the perfect opportunity. But he was used to Theo’s ways like how Theo was used to his. They always found a way to get under each other’s skin. Noel wasn’t too bothered by his attempts at flirting; like he said, he was used to the other’s personality. But a question lingered each time the other threw a compliment his way or when he made a passing comment about his rear end. The question was always on the tip of his tongue before being swallowed back to replace it with a exasperated reply.
It wasn’t that he was afraid of what might happen if he asked the other what his intentions were; that each time he said something, was he just making fun of him? He had known his friend for awhile now but he didn’t know everything about him. Every so often he would find something new to learn about Theo; and each time it was captured and locked away into his memory. Theo was an open book but there were still things he didn’t know...at least things he wasn’t 100% sure about. And that’s what kept Noel from asking, his words once again getting bitten back as he stared up at the guilty look Theo gave him as he called him out on his intentions.
But he wasn’t put off by it. There wasn’t any hesitation as he reached over and pinched the other’s cheeks and gave him another suggestion for their so called “date”. No matter if he was 100% certain or not, Theo was Theo. He was the same boy he made friends with and the one who brought liveliness into his life again. Theo brought life back into him when he had accepted that he would be working himself to death for the rest of his life. And Theo was the same boy who was stuck here in this life or death situation who promised not to leave him. Whether or not Theo returned whatever feelings were lurking down in him, he didn’t care. Cause as long as he had him, that’s all that mattered.
Noel knew he opened a door the moment he mentioned that they could cook something. He couldn’t help but latch onto that familiarity they once had before this all happened. It wasn’t too long ago they were both in the kitchen as he tried to prepare something and Theo sat watching him. It was easy to reminisce about the things they once had but he at least wanted to try and bring back something familiar to them both. And hearing Theo’s voice raise in excitement was the reason he suggested it.
“You give me more than enough compliments.” Noel rolled his eyes in response but still unable to hold back the excitement he felt as well. “Usually they’re about my ass.” He couldn’t help the teasing comment that came out; it was easy to fall back into their little game. However before he could continue, it was the sudden change in his friend’s demeanor that made him grow silent. It was the normal compliments that Theo gave him but it was different this time. There was some underlying meaning behind his words that Noel wanted to latch onto and hold. And as Noel stood there and listened, he couldn’t help but think that he didn’t deserve the praise the other was giving him. Each sentence was almost drowned out by his heartbeat. He almost didn’t hear the teasing comment about how they were practically married. But the last thing he heard before Theo stopped struck a chord in him.
‘It kinda makes this feel like home’
Every day Theo was finding new ways to throw him off; whether it was a sly, teasing comment to rile him up or doing something to make him fall even more in love with him, each day was a new experience with him. There wasn’t a day that went by that Noel didn’t think he deserved Theo. And as he stood there gawking at the other male, Noel couldn’t help but think it was another one of those times.
He was speechless, no words coming out of his mouth as he stared at the other in disbelief. There were so many things he could say but nothing was coming out. A few seconds went by before a laugh escaped him, breathless and shaking in disbelief. “I swear if you call me your housewife, I’ll stab you.” He latched onto something familiar; their little game as he tried to think of something instead of standing there like an idiot. But he knew he had to say something, the atmosphere having changed too much for him to ignore what was said.
And he didn’t want to ignore it. Because as much as Theo valued him, Noel was the same way. “Do you remember when we first got trapped here and I started freaking out on you?” The memory of the first day flashed in his mind. Players disappearing around them. Theo dragging him away from the town square and holding him until he calmed down. “When I think back on it, if you weren’t there with me, I wouldn’t have found the courage to move from that spot. And each day, you’ve been with me and trying to make everything okay again despite my fears.” Noel gave Theo a soft smile in response, staring for a few seconds as he took in the other’s face. There were so many things he didn’t thank Theo for and a lot of things he couldn’t say...at least right now. “I wouldn’t be able to do this without you. Because as much as you think it feels like home, I’m the same way when it comes to you. So…” Noel shuffled his feet on the ground, finding the floor a lot more interesting than seeing Theo’s expression. “Thank you for everything.”
