'cause tonight's the night the world begins again Naomi let out a small, soft yawn as she stood to one side of the entrance to one of the tunnels leading deeper underground. She was leaning against the wall, arms crossed, body stretched out diagonally as she stared up blankly at the sky. The miners, her charges, were all talking with each other, discussing plans and counter-plans for this particular trip to the mines. She left them alone for the most part, having no interest whatsoever in being involved with the nitty, gritty details. All she needed to do was make sure they got out of this place alive. With her skills, she was confident of her success. Listening to them go on and on about how many ores they were mining, where specifically they were going to mine, or what dangers to expect was boring. She still had trouble taking everything so seriously when all this was supposed to be a game. The probable death aspect of it was far from her thoughts; a mere blip at the back of her mind. It was the adventure that appealed to her, and propelled her actions and decisions in Gargantua. This world was meant to be enjoyed, not feared. Speaking of which, she really hoped someone would come to accompany her on this quest. She would be sorely upset if she had to spend the whole day waiting. @anyone Mining Matters

"Let's see," Farsider flipped open his inventory, retrieving the letter he had received detailing his current quest. Skimming it as he walked, sword bouncing at his side with each step, he hummed to himself. Apparently he was expected to guard some miners as they did their daily work. Simple enough, he couldn't think of anything at the time that could cause him much trouble, especially with a group of working men being his charges. As he approached the mines he gave a half-assed wave to who he assumed was the boss, a man with a mining cap and big bushy beard. The samurai really wanted to touch it as he approached, but he kept his hands to himself. Looking towards the tunnel's entrance, however, he saw someone he'd maybe have a harder time keeping his hands to himself around. Lucky for her she wasn't an NPC. He squinted, checking her nameplate from afar. It read 'Papilion'. "I'd assumed this would be a simple enough mission that they wouldn't have need for more than one player. I'll count myself lucky that I get to spend the better part of a day with such a pretty face." He smirked as he approached the woman, tipping the hilt of his blade and giving a bow in introduction. "Had a chance to do any recon?" As he rose from the bow, his flirtatious demeanor had already shifted. His eyes were cold, and he was instantly prepared to absorb any information given to him. If Farsider had learned one thing about survival in Gargantua, especially with his chosen class, it was that he'd need to be ever at the ready during these quests lest he end up like the countless other fallen players.

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again Finally after waiting for what seemed like hours to her, another player arrived. She watched the white haired man as he approached the group, waving in acknowledgement to the NPCs. She was still staring as he approached her, choosing to stick to her pose as he stopped and bowed in greeting. This one was a charmer, it seemed. Naomi smiled as she pushed herself off the wall to perform a small curtsy in answer. "The day's still young. Who knows what this quest has in store for us," she replied with a grin. When the man - whose name read as Farsider - straightened up and spoke further, she was surprised to find that his behavior had shifted so drastically, without warning. Now he spoke in a serious tone as he asked for details of the quest. In response, she shrugged. "I didn't want to trigger anything by going in, so I stayed out here." Then she gestured to the group of miners with a tilt of her head. "They would probably know more about what's waiting for us inside. I haven't asked them yet."She found herself slightly disappointed by this change in Farsider. If he was going to keep being a stiff stickler throughout the entire quest, then this was going to be harder to go through than she thought. A sigh broke out from her as she turned around and began to walk towards the group. "Come on then. We can ask them about the quest together."Speaking to the head miner, he explained the path they were going to take, as well as the bats, wolves and goblins that they were bound to encounter while inside. Naomi nodded, barely paying attention to what was said, then glanced at Farsider to see if he had any other questions for the miner. farsider NOTES: Feel free to add on and stuff. Closing his eyes, the samurai focused on the sensations around him. Smell, sound, it all felt so real here even knowing that it shouldn't be. There was faint waft of dampness in the wind, a sign of the beasts that had traveled through here earlier in the morning. Enemies, especially groups, tended to travel from their spawn points at times when the system knew the player population in the area was low. It helped the immersion, but also gave players an advantage on level grinding and finding much needed loot if they could figure out these telling signals. Sadly, with no real world reference to go on for time of day, Farsider was left with no means to log for exploits. He nearly chuckled at the reminder that this wasn't his home. "Wolves, huh?" He opened his eyes once more and patted the head of the mining crew on his shoulder once, hand quick to return to his sheathed blade, "With two of us here, we'll likely make short work of them. Just lead the way, old man." Queuing the NPC to continue with the allotted quest, Farsider turned his attention to his fellow player. "So, gotten used to being stuck here yet? Surreal right?" He chuckled and followed the miners through the entrance, not bothering to actually draw his weapon just yet. He was in a good position and within proper distance to use Sawagi and instantly pull out his katana if something tried to get the jump on one of the current party members. Honestly, completing the quest wasn't even the main reason for being here. Sure, the reward was great and would further his goal of actually beating this damned game... but he didn't want another player dying if he could prevent it. His and the girl's safety were top priority.
NOTES: I don't really think there's too much to worry about in regards to how we go about doing the quest. As long as we get from point A to point B and finish the prompt given along with the required number of posts, we'll be fine. ^^

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again With a pat on the shoulder and a signal from Farsider, the NPCs they were assigned to look after began moving. Bodies shifted as men grabbed their tools and equipment and set off into the tunnel. Both Naomi and her companion followed behind, walking side by side at a casual pace. She was glad for the company, and the fact that he was willing to speak about random things during the quest. Her attention span was short, and she would prefer keeping herself entertained with conversation than staring at a couple of miners as they did their job. None of them were even appealing to her anyway. The man beside her was much easier on the eyes. "In a way, I suppose I have," she began. "The truth is, I don't think it's really sunk in that we're in any sort of danger at all. Even now, it feels like we're just playing the game as it's meant to be played."Looking down at her hands, she clenched and unclenched them, feeling every nerve and every movement she made. She could hear the sound of her footsteps as it echoed in the cave, and feel the solid ground she walked on. "It's hard to believe that all of this isn't real. This world, our presence, it's all just some bits of raw data compiled and parsed into our brains in such a way that we can understand and visualize it.""Still, I would prefer to be out of here, back in the real world. I'd do anything to make it back." There was determination and fire in her tone as she declared that last statement. Closing her eyes, she settled down and relaxed as she glanced back at him with a grin. "And once we're out, maybe we can all hang out sometime. To celebrate our success and all."It was probably too early to assume such, but she'd always been an optimist. Hope was all they had at this point, and she would rather keep trying than simply give up and accept their fate. farsider Mining Matters

"Yeah... That'd be nice." Farsider smiled at the thought of getting home and actually meeting some of the friendlier people he'd met through Broken War Online. Then thoughts of the state of his body upon returning home crept up on him. Just how long had it been since he'd been trapped in this digital realm? He'd lost track, days blurred together. Would he be bedridden upon achieving freedom? He shook the thoughts from his head and pressed onward, determination still strong. If he was still here, he was still there. He had to remind himself of that simplest truth. As he hardened his stride, however, he found himself bumping into the miner in front of him. Whispers of something nearby caught his ear, and the samurai worked his way around to the front of the group, motioning for his pink haired companion to follow. The bearded NPC had sweat lining his brow as he pointed upward. Following his finger with his eyes, Farsider let out a quiet sigh. Of course. Bats. Twenty or so of the small beasts hung from the ceiling, waiting for any sort of prey to walk beneath them. Drool dripped from their mouths and their fangs just barely glistened in the lamplight. Though these were small by the game's standards, they were still much larger than any bats back on Earth. "Alright, let's get to work."As he unsheathed his blade, an audible spark slipped through its sheath and signaled the beginning of battle. Three of the winged monsters sprung from their roost, flying at the miners. Their bites would not meet their targets, however. "Sawagi!" In an instant he was in front of the bearded NPC, holding back the bats with his blade. Shreds of data flew from his arms as he took half of the damage in the miner's stead but as he followed through with his strike one of the creatures was cleaved in two. As its halves hit the cavern floor, they erupted into bright red cubes and binary which dissipated quickly. With a smirk the samurai struck out once more, catching another of the bats before it could regroup with the others upon the ceiling. More of the same as before. The lack of gore was probably more disturbing than seeing it realistically would be, but it was a constant reminder of this just being a game. Just a game. Just a game...

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again "Hm?"When Farsider accidentally bumped into the miner in front of them, he stopped talking. Furrowing her brows in confusion, Naomi followed the white haired man to the front of the group to see what all the fuss was about. She looked up along with the others, grimacing at the sound of bats hanging above the ceiling. Their first obstacle. It looked like their task for this quest has finally begun. Seeing their bright, beady eyes and their staggering numbers made her shiver in disgust. Oh how she hated animals. The thought that their droppings could fall on her at any moment terrified her. "Yes, let's," she agreed eagerly. But before she could speak and ask everyone to step back for a moment, Farsider pulled out his sword and charged, unleashing his attack before the bats could harm the miner they were targeting. While he was busy taking the remaining ones out, Naomi waved her hand in the air and gestured for the miners to move back, away from the action. She needed a clear space for what she was going to do, and didn't want any of the NPCs to get dragged in her ability. With long, purposeful strides, she hurried over to Farsider just as he finished off the last of those near him. As quickly as she could, she grabbed a hold of his arm to stop him from moving further. Her hand began glowing brightly, the warmth spreading out towards her companion as she activated Golden Touch. "You can thank me for that later." She winked, then narrowed her eyes at the ceiling as she shifted around to stand in front of him. "I suggest you hold your breath for this one."Clenching her hands, she urged her wings to unfurl and expand, the colors shimmering against the light from the torches around them. Then with a few flaps, she let her scales fly, pushing the gust of wind towards the bats above. Almost half of them were affected by Sleeping Lullaby, immediately falling asleep and settling back in their spots as their wings curled up to protect their bodies. She wanted them to drop to the ground to make it easier to dispatch, but this was better than dealing with all of them at the same time. She took out her dagger just as the rest of those who were still awake began to jump off from their positions, flying directly towards the two of them with loud, angry screeches. farsider Mining Matters

After Papilion touched his arm, the white haired samurai instantly felt the effects of whatever skill she had used coursing through his body. He swiped a hand in front of himself, bringing up his status screen and skimmed what statuses he was currently under. Unable to take damage. Immune to negative statuses. Nice. He smiled and lowered himself, bending his knees before springing forward and striking at the first bat of the group heading straight toward them. The healing effects of his passive surged from the number of enemies now targeting him, and a notification popped into his peripheral. He smirked and turned in the air. "Hayate!"Performing a full 360 degree turn before landing, a gust of wind swept outward from his katana, hitting all of the bats. The elemental damage being enough to strike them all down, he frowned. "Wow, what a let down. Nice moves though, Pap." Farsider snickered, realizing how fitting the nickname was for an on-touch support just after saying it.

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again As soon as everything was clear, Farsider jumped back into the fray, looking quite happy as he finished off the bats that were still around. He wiped them all out with a single blow, causing Naomi's eyes to widen. She was smiling and clapping for him as he settled back on the ground, all of the bats gone for good. "Very nice."When he complimented her work, she beamed and gave another curtsy. "You're welcome." He didn't even need her ability, since he hadn't taken any damage at all that time, but it was nice to be appreciated. It was the reason she chose a supporting role in the game. "Next time though, wait for me to use Golden Touch before you jump in. Those only last for a few seconds, and I can use them on you every half minute," she explained. Given their current pacing, it didn't look like they really needed the extra help. But since she had it at her disposal, it would be a shame not to use it. The fact that he had some sort of ability to heal himself up made her ability even more useful for someone with his skills. Glancing up, she took note of the still sleeping bats, and turned to look back at the waiting miners. "We should move on while the rest are all asleep. My ability isn't permanent, and they might wake up at any moment." After giving the go-signal at the group, the miners were back on schedule, moving further into the tunnels. Naomi casually followed along with Farsider once more. "You're pretty impressive with that sword as well, Farsider. I feel even more confident about this quest with you around," she said with a grin. farsider Mining Matters

Farsider stood at full height and smiled watching the girl motion for the miners to continue onward, waiting for them to pass before walking alongside her. As she complimented him on his swordsmanship, he looked away, an embarrassed expression following his face turning red. "It's not that impressive, come on." He jutted his hands into his pockets and shook his head, blood draining back out of his face, "I mean, it's a learn or die situation. Besides, it's not like it'll carry over outside of the game."Soon enough the group had reached the mine's inner cavern and the troupe of men set out with their pickaxes to begin their work. The samurai leaned against the wall and kept watch, trying to clear his thoughts. There were some things he was still curious about though. "So, about meeting up after all this is over or whatever," The swordsman scratched the back of his neck, "What sort of stuff were you into before BWO? It's a silly question I know, but it helps to feel back home, even just a bit." He bit his tongue, feeling himself beginning to ramble.

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again She giggled when she saw Farsider's face turn red as he deflected the compliment. "It might not carry over to the real world, but as long as we're here, it's a skill you possess and can use to your advantage right?" She nodded to herself in approval, answering her own rhetorical question. "We need strong fighters like you if we want to have a chance at getting back. At the moment, here in the tunnel, this is our real world. So don't sell yourself short." She ended her pep talk with a light, reassuring pat on his shoulder. After a few more minutes of walking, the NPCs finally stopped at a large, open clearing. Equipment were being taken out of bags as the mining process began. Seeing that they were settling in this area, both she and Farsider moved to one side, out of their way. Leaning against the wall next to the white haired player, Naomi resumed heir conversation. She began by shaking her head and smiling at him. "It's not silly at all. I like thinking of the real world too. It reminds me of why we're doing all of this." She gestured at the miners who were hard at work. Looking down, she played idly with her hands as she answered. "I'm a model, but I'm not that popular yet; otherwise people would recognize me instantly, no?" She forced a small smile before going on. "One day, I'll make it big in the fashion world. My face will be all over the place, and people will see me walking down the street and know who I am." There was a pause as she remembered all that she had been through before getting stuck here. She had to go back. Her career had just begun, and she hadn't even reached her goal yet. Everything she'd already done couldn't be taken back, and she refused to let it go because of things beyond her control. A short huff of breath came out from her before she turned her gaze back at Farsider. "How about you? Who was Farsider before all this?" farsider Mining Matters

"A model, huh?" He grinned. It wasn't every day you got to interact with someone so... out of your league entirely. On the inside he was having a major episode because of this, but he tried his best not to show it. Hopefully she wouldn't ask him about- And there it was. "Yeah, well," he swallowed, mouth feeling dry all of a sudden, "I'm not anything special, really. Just an everyday normal guy, y'know? College kid, criminal justice major." He shook his head while running a hand through his hair. "I always wanted to be a private detective, ever since I was little. Comics and movies got me into it mostly. Guess now I'm in training to be a samurai in an era without need of them though."Farsider chuckled and kicked a rock past the barricade separating them from the edge of the path down further into the mine below. Thinking back on it, maybe he was suited for being stuck in this game. With any luck it would give him some experience and bragging rights if he ever made it back to the real world. Maybe he could even be famous, like how Papilion dreamed of being.

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again His tale about childhood dreams and aspiring to make them come true in the real world made her smile. "A hero in the making huh? That's really cute. And being a samurai now is probably like another childhood dream come true for you." She could imagine a younger boy - like all others of that age - who read comics and watched TV, witnessing all the great fighters and heroes who fought against the villains, wanting to become like them. "It's pretty much how I decided I wanted to be a model too. I used to sneak my mom's magazines into my bedroom and look at the pictures of the pretty models." She chuckled as the memories of her youth came to her. It was fortunate for her that she had the looks and the body to back up her dreams. Her parents, of course, disapproved of her choice and it had thrown a wedge between them that was still there up until now. Naomi had hoped that her parents would accept her and be proud of her achievements once she made it big, but that was still a far off dream. A scream from the miners put another hold on their conversation. She spotted a goblin crawling out of a small tunnel it had dug out of, reaching out for one of the unsuspecting NPCs with a cackle. Sighing, she laid a hand on Farsider's shoulder, letting the glow encompass him before slapping him lightly on the back. "Go get 'em tiger."farsider Mining Matters

Farsider smiled at the thought that he shared something in common with the girl, even if it was a stretch. The moment of bliss was cut short, however, as he felt the effects of Golden Touch course through him once more. The samurai drew his blade. Back to work. "Everyone, get back!" He exclaimed, dashing forward before activating Sawagi once more, putting himself between the goblin and the miner it had targeted. As he made footing, however, another pair of claws tore through the ground, and yet another. Soon enough the swordsman found himself held in place by a group of the little green monsters. He chopped and sliced at them, but their armor and hide were strong, leaving him dealing less damage than he had to the bats. Hayate was prepared for use soon enough, but Farsider wasn't in an advantageous position to use the skill without it simply being a waste. "Six seconds," he counted to himself, keeping track of how much longer his granted immunity would last. Hopefully Papilion had something else planned.

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again Naomi pushed herself off the wall as Farsider shouted a warning and charged into battle once again. The miners were quick to react as they stared running away from the player and the goblins that suddenly had him surrounded. Unlike the bats, her companion seemed to be having a bit more trouble fighting these creatures. Her ability could only be used again after half a minute, time which Farsider didn't seem to have the longer he fought against the goblins. Biting her lip, she ran up to them, stopping at a safe distance where none of the weapons could get at her. "Farsider, hold your breath for a bit!" This was the only thing she could do, and she hoped he remembered what happened when she had given a similar warning earlier. Though waking him up would be as simple as poking him or jostling him, she really didn't want him to get caught in her ability. Spreading her wings apart, she began flapping them, sending the scales in the direction of both goblins and player. farsider Mining Matters
