| | resting and relaxation were more her style than fighting monsters and searching around for dinosaur eggs. a well needed break from running whenever a notification was sent was her way was what hex needed to recuperate from the funk she had gotten herself into to. boy, was she tired. hopping from bounty to bounty along with taking care of her guild and trying to grab whatever loot she could along the way, hex thought she deserved a break. ignoring notifications, messages, anything that alerted her, the woman hid herself away from gargantua. hiding was much easier when there was no necessity to eat, sleep, shower. she could look herself away in the room without the need to ever leave. so that was what she did. until she couldn't handle it anymore. hex didn't know how long she was in that room, but enough was enough. a notification about a nearby bounty was sent to her, and she was on her way. there was only so much sitting in a plain room with nothing to do she could handle before she nearly lost her mind. not wanting to get in contact with anyone she knew (she wasn't ready for that much yet), the woman decided to head out to the valley of the fallen. if she was lucky, she'd be able to grab onto someone there to join her in fighting this thing called the revenant. people loved doing these things, didn't they? |

"oh dear, it seems like i've taken a wrong turn." shizuka placed her hand lightly against her cheek, exhaling softly. she had meant to take a stroll around the area having moved past another. what she hadn't expect was to get herself lost among the abundant plant life. it truly was beautiful and change of scenery from the life that she had left behind; it was refreshing. knowing herself, she had meant to only walk a short distance to turn back. lost in thought, she had gone off on her own too far to make heads or tails of the new area. the woman's eyebrows furrowed together, gripping tighter on the handle of her umbrella.
far too new to make use of the game's map, she had decided that taking action would be best. tapping a finger on her lip, shizuka simply made a choice. she walked leisurely in one direction only hoping that it may lead to some place familiar to her, and if not, she would have to make the best of things. it had only been a short while until she had taken notice of something... moving. curious, she approached it, leaning forward to touch the strange creature. her hand reached out to touch at the fox ears protruding oddly out of a young girl's head with the intention to simply stroke it. she wasn't too sure if it was hostile and if it should be, she was prepared to deal with it. if not, she would like to keep this girl as a companion.
that was a feature in games, no?

| | hex really needed to step up her game when it came noticing people approaching her. one of these days, she'd be approached by someone a little less friendly. someone who wanted to stab her rather that touch her ears. she couldn't lie that when the woman's hand rubbed against her ear it felt...pleasant...but she was too alarmed by the sudden appearance of someone else, that fear kicked in above all else. she jumped back from the other woman and grabbed her broomstick, clutching it in her hands, ready to fight if it was necessary. at the moment, though, the other didn't seem to have any bad intentions. she seemed to be more curious than anything else, so hex relaxed her body and loosened her grip on her weapon. still startled by the sudden touch, her voice came out rather harsh as she spoke, "who are you?" hopefully the person wouldn't want to kill her, and if she was lucky? she'd even help her kill the boss and claim the loot. maybe she'd even let her touch her ears more if it sealed the deal. |

shizuka sighed at the reaction, frowning deeply at the creature trying to fend her off with a broom. her eyes lifted up from the unusual weapon to the name that was hovered over the fox girl's head. she stared at it for a good moment, understanding now that this young girl was a player. how disappointing.
in response to the other player, she first apologized, "forgive my manners. i had mistaken you for a pet." she paused, keeping a close eye on the ears and tail with suspicion. how was she to know if this was another trick made by the game? for now, she would put her thoughts aside. "who are you?" she returned. it was rude not to answer when asked, but she had no obligation to answer without first knowing more about this...thing. "what are you doing here?" she added on with curiosity. if this truly was a player, it was odd that such a young girl was wandering about on her own.
where on earth were her parents?

| | a pet? the woman scoffed at the words the left the other players lips. maybe her ears and tail were juvenile, but she rather liked the additions to her body. they were cute if she did say so herself. maybe they held no purpose in the long run, but they were fashion accessories that were here to stay; there was no such thing as taking them off. hex could admit that they had taken some time to get used to, who wouldn't feel awkward at first with a pair of fox ears sprouting from their head and a long bushy tail hanging off of their butt, but they were never a decision that she regretted. her eyes locked onto the woman's. she couldn't answer the caster's simple question, but she could ask ones of her own? it wasn't that hard to find names by just looking at players, so hex ignored her first question. she had to keep in mind her original goal, though: finding the bounty and getting the reward. "it's said that the soul of the first player to die in the game in somewhere around here." she turned away from the woman to once more search for the monster. "while that's probably some made up story to make the players excited, it doesn't change the fact that killing it is worth a lot of gold." hex kept her body angled away from the woman, but glanced her eyes over at her. "you in?" she just need someone. anyone would do. |

shizuka was slightly miffed that the girl had ignored her questions, choosing to ramble on about a lost soul. she held back her judgement on the young fox for now. the treatment made sense considering she had first neglected to answer her, but nonetheless, she was older. this time she would let the disrespect slide without conflict, making note not to allow it a second time. kids these days, the woman sighed, dismissing it.
she listened intently to the lore behind the bounty's appearance with little interest until the hefty amount of coin was mentioned. "is that so?" she purred, "we mustn't allow a tormented spirit to wander aimlessly." shizuka chuckled softly, turning her back on 'hex' as the game had called her. she could tell that the other utility was still guarded and if they were to do anything, that would have to change. "izanami," she stated. "i take it that you know where it is? i'll be glad to accompany you."
omg sorry shitpost

| | hex wasn't so much as worried about the tortured spirit as she was the loot, but she wouldn't voice this opinion. whatever led the woman to help her, she didn't care about the reason. instead, when the woman introduced herself out loud, she foxfire replied simply with, "hex."with the woman's next words, hex felt slightly embarrassed that she hadn't managed to find the monster that she was searching for. honestly speaking, she hadn't been searching for that long because as soon as she'd made her way out here, someone had started to grope her ears. standing in one place certainly wouldn't make the search any easier, though. with a hand motion in front of her, the caster was vague with her words, "it's somewhere in this direction. we'll find it eventually."wasting no more time hovering in that area, hex walked deeper into the valley of the fallen, hoping that the other woman would follow behind her. when a bloodcurdling scream reached her ears, the woman knew that they couldn't be too far from the target. "i--uh, think that was it." her voice was a whisper, not wanting the monster to hear her if it was close enough by. |

"hex," she repeated with a smile, head tilted slightly to the side. a simplistic name; she liked it. even more now that the girl had taken the time to answer her back. yes, she decided, that she could potentially get along with this one if they could find a better common ground. shizuka didn't want to hate the girl, in fact, almost wanted a reason to like her. aside from her cute appearance, there was a spark to her that amused the woman. it reminded her of a pet cat that she once owned a few years back before her damned ex-husband took it away. granted, it was his to begin with and to this day, she couldn't forgive nor forget it.
shizuka shook her head, willing away the bittersweet memories in favor of following her new party mate into the valley of the fallen. a few steps in and they would be greeted by an unpleasant screech. it was otherworldly, giving out an eerie feel that scraped itself down her back until it faded into silence. she didn't like this one bit, but had no intentions of turning around now that they had just arrived on the scene. "hm," shizuka tapped a finger against her lips, "i suppose i should warn you, but i'm rather useless offensively. i hope you're better."
the woes of being an utility, she mused.

| | at the woman's words, all she could do was stare at her. this would not go over well. the last time she'd gotten stuck completing a bounty with another utility, she was lucky that he had had a dragon that could help them kill the five that they had been set out to slay. while this time there was only one, hex wasn't sure that the two of them together would be able to take out the screeching beast, but she'd keep those pessimistic thoughts to herself. no reason to be negative when they had yet to even find the thing. her thoughts came too soon because it was long until the revenant came into her view. "there it is." she whispered to her companion, but her voice didn't come out quiet enough. the monster turned in their direction. the was no more time for dawdling. taking her broom in her hands, she was quick to slam the stick into the ground to summon a spell circle. she swept the spell at the creature, trapping it for a mere second; hopefully it would give them enough time to prepare. |

shizuka didn't shy away when the girl had simply stared at her dumbly in response. she did not say anything, leaving it in fate's hands now. not confident in her own capabilities to do much, she was now left with no answer if she could even rely on her new party mate. what an unfortunate turn of events. the woman's gaze fell to the ground, withdrawing to the back of her mind as she followed in silence. it wasn't until she had heard the whispers that she was back to the present. her expression was blank when the so-called whispers had backfired, giving up their location.
"so it seems," she answered flatly, watching the creature rush at them, it's scrawny limbs flapping in the air. she looked over to her new acquaintance for some sort of plan. a binding circle was a good start, she decided and to add onto that, she raised her hand, red strands hanging down from her fingertips. spreading her hand flat, the threads began to move, winding themselves around the bound monster to secure it for a bit longer should the spell not hold. "what do you suggest we do now?" she asked calmly, eyes locked onto the struggling deformed spirit. "the best i can offer is manipulating this spirit poorly, strengthening your own abilities, or something in our surroundings. the latter does not look to be a good choice with nothing, but dirt all around us."
