| | the annual dino run. an event being teased by whoever was controlling the game. seemed innocent enough compared to the murderous dragons and kingslayer that were dropped upon the land. this time the game was giving them something less dangerous to participate in. they were even given a scavenger hunt to participate in before the dino run so that they could find their very own dino egg and hatch their very own dinosaur? the catch? the eggs could be anywhere across all of gargantua. hex didn't even know the first place to look. would the eggs be different depending on where they were found? were the eggs found in a nest all different? all the same? who knows. they didn't tell them anything except good luck. holding her broom close to the bristles, she poked the end of her stick into the bushes, peeking around the leaves to see if the eggs were hidden in the foliage. nothing. with a sign, the caster pulled her weapon out of the bushes and pressed forward. "any suggestions on where to look?" she questioned the woman joining her on this tedious adventure. |

when she had first heard about the hunt for dinosaur eggs eliza had thought the small, rather safe, activity would be fun. something on the lines of a easter egg hunt but with more whimsy. however her childhood memories helped blur the reality of the event and the overwhelmingly exhausting task that reared its ugly head. with her scythe in hand eliza slowly lifted some of the thick overgrowth, leaning down to see if anything was hidden underneath. the question that came through the silence and soft hush of the wind caused eliza's attention to shift, her head turning to glance over at the fox eared girl accompanying her on this odd quest. “well, i would think the nests would be on the ground.” she started, going back to pushing her way through the large leaves to see if she could catch sight of something. “a part of me wishes we could just burn down this whole forest. at least than we’d be able to see everything on the ground.”

| | well the ground was definitely where they'd be. hex couldn't even imagine a nest of dinosaur eggs floating in the air, though that would make this whole search a whole lot easier. they'd be seen in seconds if they were in the sky. the woman's next suggestion, however, was one that she could get on board with. "i could try to burn down the forest, if you think it would help." the caster said with a smirk. with a bunch of fire skills, one had to work on trees, right? though she doubted the game would allow her to burn down one tree, let alone a whole forest. the two would just have to do this the hard way. getting down onto her hands and knees, the foxfire crawled into the bush to look deep within the branches. "do you think they'd hide them this deep into the bushes?" hex shouted from her position buried within the leaves. at this point she didn't care anymore, she just wanted her egg and she'd do anything to get it. |

eliza wondered if this was really worth the hype. so many players had abandoned a few hours usually dedicated to quests in order to go looking for dinosaur eggs; and, right now, she was wondering if she’d made a mistake being one of them. each second on her knees, rummaging around in the brush in search of something that may not be there was a waste of time. she could be earning money now. “well, it can’t hurt.” eliza said, clicking her tongue at the feeling of her eyes narrowing, glaring at the ground. “considering we’re trying to steal somethings babies i would think they’d hide it pretty well…” she pushed herself deeper after she spoke, getting to her knees to crawl and push away the leaves hindering her vision. “i guess … we should try to think like one of them. i wouldn’t hide something out in the open. you’d want it to be hidden and hard to find, right? so maybe a small cave or covered hole … in a tree... ”

| | pulling out of the bush, the caster stood back onto her feet. she ran both hands through her hair to get out any dirt or leaves that may have stuck there while she was inside the bush. she let out a sigh. it was pointless to go shuffling through bushes to look for an egg. she'd much rather pass up an egg in a bush if it meant getting an egg somewhere else much more simply. hex walked from the bush where they searched and let her eyes wander the scenery. she'd take the advice from the other woman and look from some sort of hidey hole where eggs might have been placed. as the attacker had said, these were something's babies, after all. they were about to just snatch them away to play some sort of game. not the hex cared all that much. it's not like these were really creatures, they were just some code in a game. spotting something that looked hopeful, hex wandered to a spot that seemed to burrow into the ground. maybe a bundle of eggs was hidden there for an easy grab so she could be on her way. |

eliza had assumed the other heard her comment. nothing had been said but around them was the soft sounds of movement and birds, with no other noise besides that and themselves to block out her words. she had been tempted to lift her head from the thick leaves she’d been ducking under, however at the sight of a small hole beneath a fallen log, eliza found herself preoccupied. maybe she should have voiced her find, but filling the other with false hope felt more cruel than keeping her discovery silent. she inched her way through the brush, pushing the leaves and twigs catching against her clothes away in order to inch closer. the hole curved down, hiding whatever may or may not have been inside away from view. for all eliza knew it could be nest they’d both been looking for, filled with dinosaur eggs for both to take -- it could be nothing, or maybe it was the home of something ready to maul her the second she shoved her hand inside. she took a deep breath, preparing herself for whatever outcome that awaited, inching her hand into the hole to see what lay inside.

| | once more getting down onto her knees, the woman crawled closer to the hole that dipped into the ground. while there could potentially be egg down in there, there was also a chance that there was something in there waiting to bite her fingers off the moment she stuck her hand in. hex tried to look in the hole to see if anything was hidden away deep inside, but it was too dark to tell. there was no way she was sticking her hand in first, so she decided to go with her broom. taking the stick end of her broom, she gently pushed it into the whole. it didn't seem like there was anything grabbing or biting at the wood, but it did seem like there was something hiding in the hole. "might as well," she muttered, pulling her stick from the hole and laying down on her stomach. she reached her hand inside as far back as she could go and her fingers brushed something hard and...shell like. an egg? hopefully. before going any farther she called out to the other woman. "hey! i think i found something!" |

it had taken a deep breath and a moment of preparation for eliza to work up the courage to bring her hand into the hole before her. there were so many dangers in this world and, upon recently seeing one first hand, she had grown a sense of caution in the things she did. yet, despite it -- eliza was still her. unafraid, if not slightly welcoming, to the outcome of her bad luck; wherever it may be now. as she pushed her hand deeper into the hole, reaching with her fingers in an attempt to find something -- anything -- that may lay hidden away in the darkness. logically she should have used the handle of her scythe in order to test the area of any dangers. it was a passing thought that came to her far too late. at the feeling of something hard, rounded and warm -- eliza smiled, her hand gently resting against the side of whatever she had found (something that could only be an egg). she took hold of it, pulling it from the hole it had been hidden in -- and upon bringing it to light eliza couldn’t help but smile at her find. “hey, i think i-” she started, pushing herself up to her knees so she could shout to the other. it was only when she heard hex voice the same sentence that had came to mind that eliza stopped, pausing for a moment as her eyes found the other, holding an egg in her hand. “oh. well,” she said, getting to her feet and ignoring that dirt and leaves that clung to her body. “looks like we both got lucky.”

| | the woman stuck her other arm into the narrow hole, trying her best to get a grip on whatever it is her fingers had brushed. she pulled gently when both of her hands were around what she was assuming to be an egg. of course, luck could not be on her side and it could just be a rock, but hopefully not. even if it was, it seemed the other woman had found a nest of her own, so she could just grab one from there. hex was lucky today, though. her effort hadn't been for naught. she squeezed both her arms and the egg from the hole, her armor covered in mud. a brief thought of how a dinosaur managed to lay eggs in such a small hole crossed her mind, but she simply ignored it and turned to the other woman. the muddy egg rested in her hands, it was finally over; she just had to hatch the thing so she could go race it when the time came. "mission success, i suppose." |

she hadn’t expected for them both to find two different nests at around the same time, however it had happened and, as she stood, egg pressed against he chest to keep it safe, eliza couldn’t help but laugh. it would be their luck to find what they had both been looking for in this way. at least, she thought, they both were able to leave this place with an egg. it wouldn’t have felt right to only find one and leave the other searching for who knows how long alone. “i would say so,” she said, words pushed out through a small laugh. she pushed her way through the brush and towards the other, a smile on her face. “i think we both deserve to leave and get cleaned up.” as eliza goes to walk she turns, stopping mid step to look back at hex. “before i forget!” she tilted her head a bit, pointing at where the fox ears on hex would have been on her head. “i wanted to tell you those ears are really cute.”
