after reading over all the information the npc provided alongside the quest itself, she accepted it and entered the ship, instantly regretting her choices. it was a cruise.. of course there would be crowds.
and with her heightened senses, her anxiety spun in her stomach with more intensity, like an extreme hurricane. she groaned and, as she was pressing past the excited npcs to get to the deck where she would hopefully have some space, she sent out a quest partner request to anyone in the area.
based on the quest description, she might need some help protecting the ship. especially with the obnoxious crowds that were littered among it, making her want to vomit. so why not, right? hopefully someone her age too. she really wasn't in the mood to deal with another shocked and ignorant adult who didn't want to work with her.. like seneca.
she practically crawled the rest of the way to the deck, where she collapsed against the ship's railing and let out a disgruntled noise. the reward for completing this quest had better be valuable, she thought as she breathed a sigh and fixed her gaze on the dock. they'd be departing soon.. her brows arched together with concern. she wouldn't be able to do this on her own.. they'd better get here fast.

Ater had caught wind that there was a disappearing island type of deal with a quest tied to it. It promised something interesting, just because it was a limited time thing. That's usually something to look into, and so he was here on the dock, waiting to get into the cruise. But with the amount of NPCs there are, he couldn't wait. All the good spots might be gone by then, and he didn't want to remain in the middle of a crowd for too long. He had no problems with large crowds, but the quest he was undertaking said there was going to be trouble on their way to the mysterious island, and expected there to be a lot of NPCs running around the deck when that time comes. So it was better to be somewhere he wouldn't be crushed between digital bodies. Just then, a blip pulled his attention to an open invitation for the same quest he was undertaking, and immediately accepted. Now to look for the person who sent the invite. He used Fade Step to cut through the crowd and towards a less compact area, thinking it'll be a better start than wading through a sea of people. Sure enough, after walking around the deck for a few moments, Ater found his partner. Unfortunately she wasn't in the best of conditions by the looks of it. Oh dear. He hoped the game didn't have a vomit system in play, although that did raise an interesting question. If you were to vomit in-game, would you vomit in real life? Probably best not to voice that question out loud... "Hey there, beauty," he greeted with a smile and a chuckle. "Great day for a cruise, huh?" They still had some time to talk before the cruise started. It wasn't a bad idea to get to know each other until then.

still leaning against the railing, the small blonde turned and rested her gaze on the one who had spoken to her. her half-lidded gaze brushed over him, studying him, finding herself impressed with how.. unique he was. his gear wasn't massive and obnoxious, but relaxed, with his long hair a gentle reddish color and-
she slowly stood up, squinting her eyes and gnawing on her lip. no way, she thought as she tried to distinguish what she thought was a pair of ears from his long, soft-looking hair. but before she could figure it out, she realized she was staring, and she tore her gaze away with a nervous look. what did he ask her again? oh.. right. "I would enjoy it more if it wasn't so crowded." she murmured.
petrichor lifted her hand and rubbed her cheek, which was warm from the embarrassment of staring right at her quest partner the moment he approached her. odd, she thought, that even a game could store emotional information like that. how did the game maker even do it? she sighed and brushed the thought aside, again leaning against the railing.
"I'm guessing you're the one who accepted my party invite?" she asked, offering a small smile as she resisted the horrific urge to look up at his ears again. were they even ears? maybe they were just big tufts of hair. whatever they were, she wanted to touch them and feel them between her fingers. because she totally wasn't a creep.
no, she was just wanted to feel the softness of an animal's ears once more.

A blush? Well now, that just woke up the little imp residing in his mind. Leaning against the railing, he let his gaze fall upon the crowd that had bothered the girl. "Yeah. I get they want to build the atmosphere, but this is way too many people. Kind of makes you think these guys are just for shock value when the monsters come and tear them apart." It was kind of a giveaway, especially since the quest itself alluded what was going to happen. Looking back to the girl, Ater confirmed that he was indeed the one who accepted the invite, "Yup! I was on my way to do the quest myself, but I just couldn't pass up the chance to partner up with someone. And it's a good thing I did too. It's nice to meet new people. My name's Ater, by the way." He was a little a curious however on what she was staring at before. It looked like she was staring at him, but her gaze was just a little bit off. Could it be the ears? He guessed that it was and made them twitch a little to see if she had a reaction to them moving. "Want to head over to the roof?" he asked with a friendly smile as he extended his hand to her. "I doubt there'd be a crowd over there,"

they chatted and laughed the entire way through, completely and utterly oblivious to the fact that their lives would be put at risk on this cruise. but she'd rather have an excited crowd than a panicked one.
when he focused his attention back on her, she mirrored his actions, forcing herself not to stare at the top of his head and search for those ears again. if they were ears at all, that is. so instead she just smiled lightly and used his friendly introduction as a distraction from the possible appendages above his eyes, taking his name into account. ater. a name that held no meaning to her, but she didn't question it.
it would most likely possesses a meaning after this quest either way, after all.
"petrichor. it's nice to meet you." she stood up off the railing and gathered herself, looking back up at ater just in time to see his ears twitch. she gaped for a moment, just staring at the fluffy shapes that were now clearly there against his head. but his voice snatched her back into reality, and she blinked rapidly, looking down at his hand.
her first instinct was to agree to join him at the roof but refuse to take his hand. contact was usually a no-no for her. it made her feel icky; sick to her stomach, just like large crowds did. but she found herself too distracted by his achingly friendly gaze to refuse.
swallowing hard, she took his hand and nodded. "lead the way."

Yup, she definitely has a thing for the ears. It almost never fails to get attention. "A pleasure to meet you, Petrichor. Now, hold on tight, okay?" With a smirk, Ater pulled her to him and wrapped his arm around her waist while his other hand held on tightly to hers to provide her something to brace against when they take off. "And up we go!" With her securely in his arms, he hopped onto the railing, then jumped to the second floor's balcony before softly landing on the roof after one last jump. As he expected, there weren't any npcs there, even though there was a staircase leading to it. They could have used that, but really, his way was faster, plus they cut through the crowd without issue. If only he could have done this kind of thing in real life. Now that would save him a lot of time getting to places. "Here we are. Great view, uncrowded and we didn't even need to slug through all those people to get here." He put the girl down, but continued to hold her hand. You know, to give her something to hold on to while she regains her balance. The bobbing of the ship was a little more noticeable here, but the sea itself was calm with only small waves crashing against the pier. For now at least. Ater turned his attention back to his partner, who might have gotten sicker thanks to his abduction to make sure she was alright. "Do you need anything, Petri?"
