GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY It didn't seem like a smart decision for a healer to show up to a zombie infested area all alone, but quest rewards were quest rewards. Catharsis leaned against the gate of the manor, just barely out of aggro range of the closest cluster of undead and staring at them balefully while he waited. Hopefully, time and the undead would be the only thing he'd be killing today. That being the case depended almost entirely on finding someone who was actually useful for that whole killing part of the quest. That was all he needed. With the amount of attackers still alive in the game, he was probably in luck for once in his sorry life. Unfortunately, it seemed like most people had already volunteered for this quest and moved on; half of the people who paced through the area were after a bounty he wasn't interested in, what with being a close range healer, and the rest weren't either attackers or defenders. It wasn't that he thought all other utilities were worthless, just that he was very aware that it was a mixed bag of how well they would be able to work with other utilities. Having to kite an undead monster hadn't been fun the first two times, and he had no hope in the third time being the charm. That said, time was slipping through his fingers. He flipped up through the LFG tool, giving a second glance to slim pickings of other utilities searching for the same one until he found one that was unpronounceable (at least, to him). Well, that was promising; it would either be really great, or really terrible. He hesitated for just a moment before shooting the invite. The worst that could happen, he lied to himself, was that she could say no.

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again Third time's the charm. Or so people say. Naomi was back at the mansion, waiting for another player to arrive. The failures were starting to get irritating, but she was a stubborn girl who refused to give up. Besides, there was nothing better for her to do than to do quests and get stronger all the time. It was all to achieve the end goal of getting out of the game sooner, so she grit her teeth and bore her frustrations quietly. An alert on her interface broke her daydreaming. She glanced at it and found someone named Catharsis inviting her to do the quest. Thank god there were still some people who wanted to take on the zombies. Maybe there were some who were just as unlucky as she was. Despite her reservations, she accepted the invite and began to look for her partner. And after a few seconds of looking around, she quickly found a bright red haired man in the area. The name above his head was proof enough that this was going to be her companion for the quest. With a mental sigh, gearing herself up for another round of zombie hunt, she approached the other and smiled. "Hi. Catharsis right? I'm Papilion. I'm really glad you're here for the zombie quest too. I was worried that no one else would be interested."catharsis

GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY It turned out, as soon as he'd sent the message she found him rather than him having to kick up a start. That was either a really good sign or a really bad one. He brightened, a small smile playing at his lips as he straightened to hold out a hand. "Ah, yeah, that's me." He studied her, but it didn't really give him a much better read on her abilities past that she had some neat gear he hadn't seen before. He did, however, allow himself a nervous laugh. "You too, huh?" Honestly, this was his last try. It was that fact that kept him from asking if she had, like, any offensive ability. At least, not outright. "So, what works for you here? Are you a healer, too, or a different type of support?" He asked, hoping she wouldn't be dodgy about laying down some kind of pattern to follow if they had to work together for the quest. 2/12 papilion a bad post before i sleep, please forgive me

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again She smiled and nodded. "I've been here for a couple of days, trying to enter with some players but always having to run away when it got too overwhelming." Given his own reaction, she really hoped that this would be the final time she'd have to come back here to do the quest. This quest - simple as it should've been - was long overdue, as she'd already spent several days trying to finish it. As he started asking about the type of abilities she used, Naomi replied. "I'm an offensive support. I can usually give enemies a hard time, but I throw out lots of status ailments that slows enemy down. Not to kill them instantly." Fortunately they were both at decent levels, and could probably handle anything that came at them. Judging by what Catharsis said, she picked up on the fact that he was a healer. At this point any type of player was fine as long as they did something useful. That was all she really asked for. Even if she had to act as the fighter in the group, she would be completely fine with that. "I guess I'll be counting on you to keep me alive," she grinned as she said it. Naomi never acted as the main fighter before, so this was going to be an entirely new experience for her. catharsis

GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY Honestly, he wasn't sure if he would have had her tenacity to hang around a few days for the quest. He'd gone to do other things before coming back, and had only really waited a few hours before sending her the request. Still, he wasn't going to look the gift horse in the mouth and question her patience. He supposed if they didn't actually need to eat, someone could potentially wait forever if they had the ability to withstand the long drag of waiting. He probably shouldn't be impressed, but he kind of was. "Oh, thank god." He didn't bother to hide his relief, bowing his head for a moment as he let out a breath he didn't even realize he'd been holding in. She had some offensive abilities. He would have worked with whatever she was, honestly, but it helped that they weren't going to both be essentially stuck to basic attacks. The biggest joke of this entire traumatic experience had been that he'd assumed he could always just log back out if he didn't like his class. Real fucking funny. He perked up a bit when she assigned him to his role of healer, instead of kiting or attacking or literally anything else. Most people didn't really appreciate it, so it put him at ease. She could be as demanding as she wanted just as long as she didn't let him get swarmed. "Well, that is my job, yeah." He glanced around, "I don't think there's any point in waiting around for someone else. Do you want to head on in?" He asked, but he didn't quite wait for a response. Assuming she was as eager to get the ball rolling as he was, he already took a cautious step past the gates into the manor.

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again His great relief at at her skills made her giggle. She could imagine how much harder this quest would be if the two of them had been healers. It was probably one of the reasons why she chose a class that was more focused on helping fighters have a bigger advantage over enemies. Healer-type players were commonplace anyway. "Sure. The two of us can finish this, I'm sure. Let's go." She nodded in agreement as the other began to walk into the manor. As they entered, she moved further so she would take the lead. The heavy fog around them added to the mood of the manor, making it unfriendly and intimidating. Naomi unfurled her wings, ready to use her abilities as soon as zombies started approaching them. Slowly and cautiously, she walked up the steps to the door. After a quick glance behind her to make sure Catharsis was right behind and ready for anything, she turned the knob and pushed, swinging the door open with a loud creak. As she expected, zombies were all over the main hall, pacing to and fro or simply standing and staring off into space. She flew up into the air, hovering above the group as she first blew a cloud of poison smoke at them, followed by a scattering of her butterfly scales. Thud after thud sounded in the hall as zombies fell asleep. Despite staying still, her poison was doing its work on them and lowering their health slowly but surely. Naomi took out her dagger as she looked back at Catharsis. "Let's hurry and take them out while they're down. They're not going to stay asleep forever."catharsis

GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY If Papilion wanted to lead the charge, Catharsis was more than willing to let her be on the first lines. He followed, of course, since he needed the quest done almost as much as she did. He wasn't just going to join parties with her and then bail, especially if she wasn't another healer. Her confidence and attitude only made it all the better. He didn't know much about her class, let alone how to pronounce the name, so he was surprised when her wings unfurled like, well, actual wings. Imagine that. When she breathed on the group of zombies before her and they all fell down in something that wasn't quite exactly a domino effect, he raised an eyebrow and allowed himself a low, appreciative whistle. "That's beautiful. What was your class again?" He asked, but she didn't need to tell him twice and so he didn't just stand around while he spoke. The empath stepped forward to flick his wrist and cast a schadenfreude. It wasn't much, but it was one of his better attack skills for being a healer. The targetted opponent, the second closest zombie, burst into pixels moments later that were then drained towards both himself and his party member. Essentially useless, since they hadn't even been hurt yet, but the damage was what he had intended to use there. Equipping his staff, he moved on ahead to get within range of the next zombie. She seemed nice enough that he'd have to budget his skills, but he'd do his best to thin the numbers before the effect wore off, whatever it was.

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again Naomi landed back on the ground and approached one of the zombies. Crouching down, she was careful not to touch any part of it - else it would suddenly get jolted awake. Then she stabbed the zombie on the chest as its health continued to go down. Two stabs were enough to kill it and make it disappear. Glancing over at Catharsis, she smiled. Since they were doing well so far, she didn't feel worried about striking a conversation while they worked on cleaning up the room. "Oh, thank you. It's called Itzpapalotl. She's an aztec warrior goddess whose name means obsidian butterfly." When she had been deciding on a character and a class, she searched the name online and was very interested with the details. While it wasn't one of the strongest classes out there, she considered it at least one of the more useful ones out there. She moved onto the second zombie, stabbing it several times before moving to the next. As went along, she spotted Catharsis using one of his own abilities to kill a zombie. Her eyes widened in surprise as the pixels went towards her as well. "What did that do?" she asked curiously. It felt like some kind of buff or heal, but she didn't feel any different than usual. catharsis

GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY He still wasn't sure if he could pronounce that correctly, but it sounded easier once he'd heard her say it. That was worth something. Still, he hesitated a split second after beating in a zombie's head and watching it burst into pixels. "I'm ... sorry if I mispronounce that." He said, rubbing his neck before stepping backwards to start attacking the next zombie. He didn't see any point in hiding details of the skill, although he avoided naming it. "Oh, their pain is our gain, you know?" He explained with a smile. "We get some healing back for the damage done, but-" The Empath shrugged, "We didn't need it, so it didn't really matter." He lifted red eyes to look at her for a moment, before moving on to attack the next zombie, traialing further down the first floor of the mansion with a glance towards the stairs. He really hoped they didn't have to go up the stairs. Or down any. Both of those seemed like bad ideas.

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again At his apology, Naomi shook her head. "It's fine, don't worry about it. I don't think many could. I didn't even think anyone would ask about my class." They were still clearing out the zombies that remained. After some time had passed, the poison had done great work on them, with most of their health more than halfway empty. While killing some more, Naomi listened to Catharsis' explanation of his skill, eyes bright with awe. "Wow that's a neat skill to have. And even if we don't get healed, it still does damage at least." She nodded as, finally, all zombies in the main hall were gone with one last stab of her dagger at the final sleeping zombie. This was the first time she'd cleared this part of the mansion. The two of them were probably strong enough to easily take them on without any mishaps, which only promised good things the further along they went. But since that was the case, Naomi wasn't sure anymore where to go from here. "How far did you get in this quest? Do you know where to go next? We're supposed to find out the source of the zombies right?" she asked, one after another. catharsis

GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY Catharsis glanced at the woman, not really able to pin down if it was an act or not. She seemed nice, like, genuinely nice. She was either a sucker or a snake, then, but he couldn't really object to either considering how well they were doing. If they finished the quest, he didn't really care what type of person she was, and if they finished it without a life-threatening or traumatic experience, well, he might just about feel he owed her one for it. He wondered, briefly, if his luck had always been this bad and he just hadn't noticed it before the game. There was no need to dwell. When she remarked on his ability doing damage, he nodded and smiled. "Yeah. It helps me not be completely useless when people aren't dying, I guess." At least, that was how he liked to look at it. When Papilion remarked on how far he might have gotten, if he had any idea where to go from there, he shrugged and shook his head, smile fading. "I've never gotten this far, to be honest with you."The fact was, if they wanted to complete the quest, they would probably have to go the place he would rather not. Catharsis probably visibly winced, as if it physically pained him to go on and say the words that followed. "I guess ... we could try going upstairs?" As if neither of them had seen that horror flick before. Why not just add on a, what could possibly go wrong to top it all off?

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again A shame that Catharsis didn't know any more than she did. It would've been so helpful if one of them knew where to go and what to do from the start. Now they had no choice but to take it slow and look through every inch of the place in search of something to end the quest. She didn't even know what that thing was. At the same time, they needed to keep fending the zombies off them. With a sigh, she nodded and began climbing up the stairs right in the end of the room. There were two which connected up to the end, then expanded on either side. Naomi just picked out a random direction and headed there. "Maybe there's some kind of library somewhere. That's usually a good place to look for something right?"While walking, she had her weapon out and her wings unfurled. Her eyes kept darting in all directions, watching out for any trouble that might suddenly pop out. At the second landing, she approached the first door she could find and grabbed hold of the doorknob. Glancing at Catharsis, she took a deep breath before nodding. "Well here goes nothing. Stay back a bit when I enter."She pushed, and found herself staring at a room filled with zombies. They turned their heads all at once the moment she went in, and began stumbling over each other towards the door. Naomi instantly flapped her wings, sending her scales into the room. A few seconds passed before all of the zombies fell and lay in a messy pile. Poking her head inside while avoiding the zombies, she glanced around and found nothing eye-catching. "Of course we're not going to find the solution to all our problems in the first door we open," she grumbled, closing the door as she did - pushing the zombies in - then sighed as she heard them all waking up from that bump. "Let's keep looking."catharsis

GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY It was only begrudgingly that he followed Papilion up the stairs and towards wherever her best clue was. "Yeah," He admitted, about as sure of where they should look as she was, "A library might work. I guess it'd be too much to ask for them to have a red glow under a door or something obvious." That would, of course, make things too easy. The longer he'd been on this quest with the butterfly chick, the more he decided he might actually like her, though. That multiplied when she actually told him to stand back. Hell, yeah. When the door opened to reveal more zombies, his heart sank as he resigned himself to more fighting, but ... apparently that hadn't been what she had in mind. He blinked as she actually closed the door and moved on. "I like your style." He complimented, trailing right along with a bit more confidence. "If that has a cooldown, I have a barrier too. Not the same, but it's something."His smile turned into a frown when he noticed one of the doors in the hallway was more ornate than the others, pointing to it outright. "That's either what we're looking for, or a trap. What do you think?" He asked, uncertain.

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again "Oh if only there was something like that," she agreed with a laugh. Hopefully, even if it wasn't a red glow, the quest goal would be something noticeable to them. She glanced at him when he commented on her 'style', and shrugged. "If we don't need to fight them, why bother? We don't need to kill all of them anyway." Especially for two utility classes like them, who focus more on supporting players than dealing the most damage, the less killing they needed to do the better. Thinking on it now, she glanced around the hallway and moved towards a desk. Then she began pushing it forward to block the door. "Just in case they try to get out and come after us," she explained to Catharsis. Better to be safe than sorry. When he suggested one of his abilities that they could use, she brightened up and nodded. "Sure. My ability has a pretty short cooldown, but in case I can't get all the zombies asleep right away, then your barrier will be very helpful."After everything was fixed, their search resumed until Catharsis pointed out a unique looking door ahead of them, down the very end of the hallway. "Only one way to find out." Naomi moved forward until she was right in front of it. She grabbed the doorknob, but didn't open it right away. "Um...about that barrier of yours, could you put it on me now before I open this door?" She grinned as she lifted her free hand up. "I have a buff I can put on you to keep you from taking damage too. We can use it on each other. Just in case this really is a trap."catharsis

GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY Catharsis laughed weakly, "If only more people thought like you in here." He left it unsaid that, were that the case, they would probably have more survivors than the current tally stood. No need to outright disrespect the dead, especially in a place like this. It was nice to have a player who was smart about picking and choosing her fights around for once. He glanced back, glad the zombies were probably incapable of opening the doors themselves. It'd keep them from getting swarmed from behind should any of them both survive and wake up. If he was wrong, then, at least there was that health drain on her skill. He still wasn't worried. He even didn't find himself regretting his offer of his own skills. He did, however, paused when she asked her question. "Mm, no, I'm sorry, that won't work." He started, making a motion with his hand as he tried to explain. "Mine is more like a line in the sand. I mean, I can put you inside it instead of blocking the way to buy us time, and nothing would be able to hurt you while you were in it, but you also wouldn't be able to move without breaking it. That's more for a crisis situation type of deal, yeah?" He should have explained it better to begin with, but at least they had the pause in time for him to actually be able to. He paused. "If you want, I could open the door with your barrier. If you can't apply it to yourself, I mean." After all, that only seemed fair.
