Another reminder that this world wasn't theirs. However, where in the real realm did a grove such as this exist? Where the waterfall fed into a perfect little stream. Where the stream summoned perfect little scenes of an idealized pastoral past. Zodiac reached out for a leaf and rubbed it between his fingers. The small frond was lightly textured, but soft. It slipped out from his gentle pinch and waved goodbye as the stem shook. A natural community unlike his empty friends' list.[break][break]
"I figured." Zodiac said of his sniffing. "I have a normal nose after all."[break][break]
The Lobisomem maintained the lead. Her carnivorous craning back and forth reminded him of a raptor. And like a Pratt, Zodiac kept his cautious distance and let her instincts flow organically like a stream.[break][break]
Zodiac zipped down beside her. Hushed, he looked around, feigning excitement as silence filled the forest's tableau.[break][break]
"You can trust me." Zodiac said, carefully withdrawing an arrow. "I'm the best shot I know."[break][break]
Not too far away, the Golden Deer leaned to nibble on some fronds. Its petal-like ears shifted this way and that as it snapped off its greens.

As she stalked forward, everything within the Grove was completely silent. Perhaps in the real world, birds would sing, something would chatter, and bugs would buzz. Yet, this was a game, and even her breaths barely made a sound. Her eyes flicked to Zodiac, silently reinforcing an order to stay back, quiet, and shoot. The metallic scent wafted around her, in any other situation it would be unappealing, but right at this moment, it was as intoxicating as wine. She closed her eyes and melted into the shadows, slithering at a breathtakingly slow pace as to not alert her prey. She flowed to the flank of the deer, becoming faster and faster as stealth was abandoned and speed was decided to be the key. She wasn't sure how, but the deer saw her coming, taking a sharp intake of breath as it started to wheel around to flee. Drakka didn't look back at Zodiac, but she knew if there was any chance of catching this thing, he had to shoot now! Her jaws were open, she just needed the chance to bite. ZODIAC

Zodiac steadied his bow and took in breath. He watched as Drakka creeped closer to the deer as he heard his heartbeat pound in his ears. Taciturnity settled like snow upon the grove. Every blink captured a scene in slow motion. At the end of his arms, he perceived the slightest trembles caused by the pumping of blood.[break][break]
Seeing Drakka's scrutinizing flicker, he simply nodded in response. He tugged back the lean arrow. The string of his bow trembled with anticipation. Why was he complying to her demands? Really, he could just leave right now to return to his nomadic life of solitude; yet, the need to perform locked him in, and the unspoken feeling of comradery began to trickle down his veins.[break][break]
He followed the creature with the tip of his arrow. As Drakka began to mobilize, Zodiac bit his lip. It was finally time. The creature recoiled from the serpentine advance and lifted its legs to dash away. Zodiac let his arrow lose, before rapidly firing two more.[break][break]
The arrows whizzed by Drakka-and the deer. Embedding themselves into the ground. He had missed-or did he? Links suddenly formed between the arrows, awash with starlight. The deer, already in the middle of its panicked retreat, could not evade its passage through the fence and as it did, the links whirred, signifying damage and a slow! The deer looked like it was stuck in a quagmire as it struggled to regain speed.[break][break]
"Now!" Zodiac said.[break][break]
He pulled another arrow, however, and aimed.

Drakka didn't pay much attention to the arrows of Zodiac at first, what she did notice was that all his arrows missed! This time her previous amusement didn't stifle her fury, and she turned her head to snarl at Zodiac's supposed incompetence or teasing, otherwise to notice one thing about the Golden Deer...it wasn't moving. Instantly she turned her attention to the immobile deer, which was struggling against the skill, and her fangs clicked into place. A long keening split the air before a ghastly shriek smothered the sound as Samantha pounced, clasping her jaws around its throat and raising her claws for the killing blow. Her jaws snapped together as the deer dissolved back into nothingness, leaving her with silent air and nothing between her jaws. Her EXP skyrocketed. Without thinking about it, she shifted back. A patchy looking girl threw herself as high as she could, grinning with a smile that looked wolfish, eyes still wild. " Take that! He'll yeah! Dammit, damn! I did it!" She calmed slightly, words intangible as her voice dissolved into self-contained compliments. Suddenly, she seemed to remember Zodiac's presence, and her excitement died immediately. " Uhhh...uh-huh...sorry 'bout that...nice skill, I got it...thanks." ZODIAC

Drakka's snarl was met with an unmoving grin of nonchalance. Already, an extended finger gestured toward the deer as if to say, 'told you so.' From his position, the arrow he had notched begged for release. He breathed in and steadied his hands. But as Drakka pounced, Zodiac lowered his weapon. The string of his bow fell slack as he slid the arrow back into its quiver.[break][break]
The banshee-like screaming soon silenced itself for the fatal crunch. Zodiac rubbed his jaw watching Drakka snap the MOB's golden neck and winced. As her EXP bloomed, he sighed.[break][break]
"Oh, yes you did." Zodiac said, brushing his palms together. "Welp, it's time for me to leave. You're happy, I'm happy, we're all happy."[break][break]
He turned around with a self-satisfied smile. Zodiac's muffler swung and wrinkled against his back. Something inside him resisted and held onto him, but he refused to listen. They had to part ways; he wasn't ready.[break][break]
"Thanks for the fun." Zodiac whistled. "Maybe we'll see each other around? Maybe we won't. Who knows! Toodles, little girl."[break][break]
Zodiac laughed as he lifted a branch out of his way.

Drakka puffed out a long breath, resembling for all the world a disgruntled little dog. She jerked upward with a baffled expression. She instantly fixed her face into the blank frown that grumbled and growled and snarled moodily as she settled back onto her usual slouch and mindset. " I'm just happy I got it." She spat out, though the words quickly lost their volume, becoming mostly for herself. Loath she was to admit it, but it was fun, brought back the real world for a second...though whether that was a good or bad thing lay somewhere in her head before slowly dropping to her stomach...she made no attempt to dig up the query and, before she knew it, the fun value was gone and she was...tired... This showed in her face a split second before she shifted, running with all the energy in the world. She passed Zodiac a moment, raising her head to nearly nip him before she was gone. She was gone, nor sound, nothing. A pair of eyes shone scarlet in the gloom before even that slithered into darkness. It really was funZODIAC (Fun! Thank you!)
