The number up in the "Members" section of the Darkroot Devils' menu had stayed at four so long Raynauld had actually forgotten it could change. And recently, it did just that; some utility called an "Iztzpapalotl" with a name he swore he recognized but couldn't place.[break] But when he saw that she'd been located recently in Izanagi, well, that just meant more reason to check. And as luck would have it...[break] to papilion : See you joined the guild recently; guess Rex saw something in you. You mind helping me out with this? There's reports of five cyber-assassins running around the neon city. I can handle them - of that I'm certain - but I'm going to need help to gather them all together. That's where you come in.[break] And so Raynauld sat in the cyberpunk city, rain falling down, waiting for a response from the butterfly girl that had so captivated their leader. Would she be useful? Furthermore, could they defeat the so-called "Fearsome Five" by themselves?[break] Bounty Battle - 1/10, papilion

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again Not long after Naomi agreed to join Carlo's guild, she was surprised to find a message sent by one of the other members. She hadn't met any of them yet, so she was unsure of her impressions on the whole group. If they were all going to be as stubborn and hot-tempered as Kingrex, she didn't know if she really looked forward to spending time with any of them. One was enough for her. But being in a guild had its advantages. At the very least, she would give this Raynauld a shot before jumping into conclusions. Hopefully they would get along well. His message to her seemed polite and direct enough. And if she could do something to help him and get stronger herself, then who was she to refuse? The hood of her cloak was pulled up to protect her head from the rain as she walked briskly through the streets towards where she was supposed to meet her companion. Eventually she spotted an armored, green haired man sitting in a dry area. She approached him, lifting the fabric from her head and waving a hand in greeting. "Hi there! New member, here to help."raynauld

Raynauld slowly looked up to the face of a pink-haired woman who had to be about Rex's age. Now that he had a better look at her, he definitely recognized her - that was the woman who'd caught the commando's eye during that festival. Guess it really wasn't a surprise that he thought lasciviously after all.[break] He stood and took her hand long enough for standardised greetings. The newly-minted guild armor was what he wore, in a style perfectly befitting his class.[break] "Right. My name is Raynauld, as you know. Knight in service to She of Fated Love, Lasivia." He reached over and grabbed the handle of his weapon - it looked like a massive warhammer, the head of which was a flanged piece of metal. "Doubtless you've heard of these so-called "Fearsome Five"? A group of cybernetic warriors who deal in death and take indulgences from the highest bidder for the sole purpose of claiming lives in the names of whatever company buys them. Disgusting.[break] "Worse yet, they do not die unless all their companions fall, some foul cyber-necromancy at play." He grimaced. "But I can handle that. I merely need all five of them gathered. Are you prepared, butterfly?"[break] 2/10 - papilion

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again "Uh...what?" She blinked dumbly at his introduction. Who was Lasivia even? Was it some game reference? Maybe she was supposed to know of her, but she didn't. After the two of them shook hands, he began discussing the reason he'd invited her along. Naomi decided to let Lasivia go for now - she could always ask about her later. Being guildmates, there would be plenty of opportunity to know them better. "I think I heard of something like that...but I haven't gotten the chance to look into it yet," she replied. The place had just recently opened up after all. She had been taking her time in exploring the city and learning more about it first to really pay attention to any bounties or impressive quest that were lying about. At his question, she smiled and nodded. "Well, that sounds pretty straightforward. I'm as prepared as I can be at this point. Let's do this!"Now that they were here and about to stir things up, she was getting excited. Raynauld seemed pretty dependable, especially given that he was a tank. She'd do her best to support him in battle, and was just as confident that they could finish this without trouble. "So what exactly is the plan here? Do we know where each of them are holed up in? And where to gather them all for the big fight?" Since he was the one who invited her, she expected one from him. She herself had no idea what to expect other than the fact that there were five of them. raynauld

"It's unclear whether they travel together or split up; I would imagine they do the latter merely to hunt a target." With some difficulty, Raynauld hefted the heavy mace over one shoulder, "But they are brazen enough to target their prey openly and disappear as shadows into darkness. Once we have them gathered it will be easy enough to destroy them. All that be left..." Raynauld picked up a helmet from the ground (his, presumably) and put it on. He showed Papilion a paper, another bounty likely by NPCs for NPCs. On it was the knight in front of her, wanted for religious extremism. Well. Someone had been planning ahead.[break] "Is to wait for the bait to be taken."[break] The light flickered behind him; one of the fabled Five appearing. As if expected, Raynauld wheeled around and met the futuristic tantos with his mace, forcing the assassin to leap back to gain distance.[break] "IS THAT YOUR BEST?" Raynauld taunted, holding his arms out slowly as he strode towards the first of five, "BRING YOUR SERVER FARM FRIENDS, KNAVE FROM THE EAST! YOU WILL NEED THEM MERELY TO SURMOUNT ME! STAND AND DELIVER!"[break] The assassin moved to stab Raynauld, and he countered by swinging the mace. However, even these streets were narrow. Attacks could come from anywhere, but that's where the newfound butterfly came in, wasn't it?[break] 3/10 - papilion

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again Her eyes widened at the sight of Raynauld's face plastered on a wanted poster. She didn't think it was possible for that to happen, but there it was. What on earth had he been doing to get them to actually put a bounty on his head? "Well you sure know how to get their attention," she commented. "It does sound like the best way to get them all coming after you." Since he was confident about handling all five of them at the same time, then she would let the plan play out and do her best to keep up. Just in time too. She flinched and watched Raynauld attack someone who had suddenly appeared. She glanced at him in a strange manner as he started shouting angrily at the target, his words heated and...really getting into his role as whatever knight of something he was supposed to be. It was hard to figure out whether he was playing around or if he was being serious. While he started attacking the first of these assassins, Naomi spread her wings out and flew into the air to serve as lookout. Since they were assassins, she didn't think it would be smart to be out in the open, so she chose to hide behind some buildings to wait. raynauld

Raynauld was intensely, endlessly focused upon the first one. Presumably, if this fight went on long enough it would call for its companions... however robots did as such. The Consecrator was a large weapon, much different from the spears and one-handed weapons with shields he was used to. Compared to his swings, the assassin was much swifter. But when Raynauld got more than a glancing blow upon the cybernetic frame of his opponent, the sound of crunching metal and the size of the dent left in his foe were stark testaments to the power behind it.[break] Elsewhere, the sounds of footsteps were loud - palpable. The grinding of the dragged weapon, even moreso. Another one was coming, and Raynauld smirked - yes, come, you merchants of death! Break yourselves against this siege! Elsewhere in the shadows, however, sinister plots lurked. A building was good defense - but it was not the best defense.[break] The telltale click of the hammer being pulled back was the only warning before a shot rang out, the bullet headed towards Papilion. And her defender was nowhere near able to react quickly enough. 4/10 - papilion

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again While in her hiding place, Naomi got a good view of Raynauld in action. His opponent was fast, but Raynauld's defenses were tight and when he dealt a blow, she saw how much it affected the assassin. Her eyes went wide in amazement at his skill. Hearing the sounds of someone new approaching, she caught sight of another dark figure dragging something big and heavy. More of them were starting to appear, and Naomi could feel a sense of dread growing in her. "There's a second man headed your way!" she shouted down at the knight. That was enough to reveal herself to the third assassin as a shot rang out. She tried to duck back, but still felt the sting of a bullet grazing her cheek. A second later and she would've lost her eye. Almost as soon as she knew she was spotted, Naomi used Transparent Concealment and disappeared from the enemy's line of sight. Then she flew away from the building, trying to figure out the direction of the shot. While Raynauld had to deal with the two melee fighters, Naomi was going to distract the long-ranged fighters. She made her way to another building and deliberately revealed herself as she began scattering butterfly scales all over. If any of them inhaled it they would instantly fall asleep. raynauld

Raynauld flinched when an attack that evidently struck his ally affected him; such was the cost for using faith as a bastion. That was all the window of opportunity the assassin needed for a flurry of slashes, pushing Raynauld out into the open streets and onto the ground.[break] Mercifully, he awoke quickly; less mercifully, he had to roll in that heavy armor (no easy feat) to avoid being splattered as flies before the swatter; the second one had arrived. Writ large, he (she? it?) dragged behind him a massive sledge not unlike Raynauld's own mace. Was this really an assassin? Maybe it was some form of breaching tool.[break] There was little time to think; they came for him, two out of five. Three more and the plan could be enacted... provided they lived, of course. Elsewhere, the gunman watched his quarry disappear and had a plan - before he could enact thermoptics, however, his nerve systems acted up, a benefit of the butterfly's paralysis. Now that the height advantage was hers, she could see already a fourth; an archer some ways behind the gunner.[break] He pointed his massive bow up at her and launched the attack - a singular arrow that split into three, then seven, then fifteen. A cluster attack. ... That seemed like overkill, all things considered.[break] 5/10 - papilion

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again Seeing the effect her ability had on the assassin made her grin. That will keep him busy for a bit at least, for as long as no one touched him or woke him up. It was a good thing too, as she spotted the fourth assassin from the corner of her eye. She was too late to dodge the arrows - and there were too many of them either way - so with a flick of her cloak she wrapped it around herself. Every single arrow went through her harmlessly, falling to the ground as gravity took hold and their projectile ended. Once again she turned invisible and sped towards the assassin who had shot the arrows. She flew above, directly appearing before the man underneath as she blew a cloud of poison smoke at him. It grew in size until it completely covered the small area around him. Even if he had any kind of resistance to it, the cloud would prevent him from seeing anything immediately. This gave Naomi the chance to fly away, back towards Raynauld who she spotted still fighting the two other assassins. Just to keep them on their toes, she scattered more of her scales, in the hopes of knocking them out as well. But her main goal was to reach her companion and touch his back. The contact sent a vibrant glow towards the knight's body. "You've got a few seconds of invulnerability. Give them hell!" As quickly as she came, she flew out of enemy range to head back towards her own opponents. raynauld NOTES: It doesn't affect your post much fortunately, but she makes people fall asleep with those scales, not paralyze them. Just so you know

Even against two foes, Raynauld's defense remained strong; that may have been expected, given his role, but even then the Crusader class excelled in managing more than one enemy at a time. While the new prey was much bigger than the previous one, that just meant he was slower and simpler to hit. Everything was going well.[break] And then a volley of arrows rained down on him.[break] It broke concentration enough for Raynauld to be struck more by the knife assassin, but otherwise he only came out it with superficial damage to his health bar. Just as well - the gunman had woken from his impromptu slumber, and the sounds of combat drew him to Raynauld's street-wide brawl, just as Papilion arrived here with her scales and her golden touch. In response to her, Raynauld merely smirked.[break] The click of the hammer, but this time he was ready.[break] "DEUS VULT!" Raynauld jumped and the bullet struck him true; harmless, thanks to her. When he landed, he wound up his mace and shot a glare at the larger of the melee combatants before swinging his mace as a bat, a loud scraping noise of metal ringing out across the street.[break] Hm. Two here, one behind him, a fourth likely coming soon... Where was the last one?[break] 6/10 - papilion ; i figured it had to be one or the other

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again Naomi didn't get any warning at all as Raynauld suddenly leapt to his feet. She heard the sound of a ping as a bullet struck him and had no effect. Knowing the other was fine, and that he had probably just saved her from getting hit, she continued to fly up for another good view of the area. That gunshot meant that the assassin who had fallen asleep was awake though. Plus, the last of the five was still nowhere in sight. The two of them had to be very careful of that. She went for another round of distraction on both ranged assassins. Like a fly that just wouldn't go away, she flew all around in constant, random patterns. From time to time she blew more clouds of poison smoke, or scattered butterfly scales to make them fall asleep. Whether they took effect or not, she was always relentless in her attacks. Any bullets or arrows that came at her she dodged, though if they actually fired at Raynauld instead she would use the opportunity to fly in and stab with her dagger. Her damage wasn't anything to be proud of, but it kept the assassins on their toes. How long was this going to take?! With all the sounds of fighting they were making, they ought to have grabbed every assassin's attention. She couldn't stop the feeling of dread from creeping in. Could the last one be setting some kind of trap or trump card to kill them both instantly? raynauld

Raynauld stepped back, closing the distance between him and the ranged attackers. Unwilling to let their advantage go, the melee attackers pursued him, and the amount of room he had to move began to drastically decrease as a result. That was exactly what he wanted.[break] A bullet pinged against his helmet, and he reached the threshold he sought; crimson threads tightened themselves against his armor, pulling him back together. Strength in adversity. And it couldn't have come more apropos; given current standings, the metaphorical noose was tightening around him rather quickly.[break] Bullets and arrows entered the sky on occasion, but for the most part the assassins had determined who was more dangerous between the two. When Papilion would come close they would shoot at her as they would a passing fancy, but they were focused almost entirely on Raynauld. And to his credit, he handled multiple foes well, even lacking his shield as he currently did. But even he could not hold forever.[break] And in the darkness lurked those red eyes, watching...[break] 7/10 - papilion

'cause tonight's the night the world begins again Oblivious to the red eyes watching them from the shadows, Naomi continued to try her hardest at distracting the ranged fighters. She wouldn't dare come too close to their reach, and because her attacks were mere scratches on them they decided to focus on Raynauld instead. Her ability had worn off at this point, and any damage Raynauld bore would start affecting his health. There were still another thirty seconds left in her cooldown before she could use it on him again. Biting her lip worriedly, she glanced over at the knight. He was still standing at least, but she didn't like their circumstances right now. She couldn't heal, and any of her efforts were now being ignored. The enemy was expecting it by now and could counter it easily. Worse, he was standing out in the open. Naomi knew he was intentionally revealing himself, but the least he could do was make it harder for them to hit him! If it weren't for the fact that he was focused on staying alive against four enemies attacking him all at once, she would've spoken to him. All she could do was watch over him and make sure his health didn't drop too low. They could always run away to regroup if it ever came to that. She was more than ready to jump in and pull him to safety. Where was that last assassin?! raynauld

So Raynauld was starting to regret his decisions. If only he could-[break] "Ngah!"[break] Any actual thought he had was shorted out quickly when a burst of electric energy coursed through him, his body convulsing and collapsing him to one knee. Thermoptics faded and revealed the last of the assassins, making his grand debut - a tesla battery running through his gauntlet, he looked down at Raynauld and cast his glance up to Papilion. The assassins converged on Raynauld-[break] Only to hear him laugh.[break] "Finally! Stand your ground, curs - it is time to show you true faith!"[break] It took work, but he raised one of his arms; from his armor itself, deep red chains launched themselves, latching onto the five assassins. They had not expected it; were their robotic visages capable of expression one would see the shock. They tried to move and found themselves struggling.[break] "Keep them within reach, Papilion, I must hold this for some time!"[break] If they could keep all five bound, the battle was theirs to claim. Until then...[break] 8/10 - papilion
