She needed new weapons, she needed to act with less fear for her life and be able to deal with the dangers ahead. Calista let out a sigh as she glanced around the. She glanced over at the bird resting on her shoulder, her only companion she had actually attached herself to in the time since being trapped in the game world. She glanced lazily around the area before letting out a sharp whistle, the hawk taking flight, staying near her as she approached the entrance to the caverns. Things were going to be interesting in there, she didn't know how well she'd be able to maneuver and keep Ragnarok at range after all. The red head stopped at the entrance, checking her gear before pausing. She really shouldn't do this alone. There was no telling if her speed and agility would keep her safe, and with no close range weapon in her inventory yet it was even more dangerous. A bow was going to be hard to use in close quarters, especially if Ragnarok was fast. She glanced at her empty friends list, shaking her head before sending out a few party requests to close by players. If she was lucky someone would bite, if not she'd continue on her own into the madness. If she died she died, it wasn't like she wasn't going to try something, sitting by idly had been getting her nowhere after all.

The dank pits that made up the Bottomless Caverns of the Underworld were undoubtedly a breeding ground for the worst beasts of this land. ... At least, that was what he would've thought until the duel in the Faywoods. No, monsters were everywhere in this world; today's just happened to be here.[break] What started as a regular trek through the caves in the name of his God quickly turned into a holy war against anything that breathed and ran AI subroutines. And then, a plea for help cast from the light into the darkness. Lucky for her he was here to catch it.[break] Stepping out of the entrance to the caves, in front of Calista, arrived Raynauld - clad with weapon and armor well beyond hers. Little surprise there; he'd been thrown into crucible after crucible thanks to the Devils he routinely mingled with. Either way, if she was going to go on a picnic or something she was going to need more than that.[break] "You're the one who sent the missive? My name is Raynauld, knight in service to the Deity of Fated Love, Lasivia." Oh, good, he was also crazy. What a surprise, coming from someone who just walked out of the caves of madness, "So, you wish to face that horrid green-skinned mockery of man?"[break] 1/8 - calista

Calista had just been about to give up, figuring no one wanted to join the young red head on her dangerous trek before someone emerged from the tunnels, the girl taking half a step back defensively before relaxing a little as she recognized the sight of a shield. A defender, meaning that even if push came to shove her speed could get her out of there easily, though that was probably just her overly cautious side. Before responding she let out a sharp whistle again, the bird coming down and landing on her shoulder once more. She didn't necessarily need to keep an eye out on her surroundings right now. She looked up at the green haired boy as his introduction registered, a small raising of her eyebrow be first reaction to it. Her eyes slid up towards his, shifting her weight a little and crossing her arms casually. "Well, that was the plan. Just... someone as unequipped as me," she responded simply, a light tilt of her head following. She had chosen not to address his statements on a goddess, but that didn't make it any less curious to her. Was he just in character or did he truly believe in what he had just said? Was he taking this as seriously as it sounded, or did he just feel like staying in character was best for his sanity? She wouldn't know for now, maybe she could ask later. "Redwing and I were going to attempt to tackle it alone, but I don't know how well we'd be able to stay at a distance." She scratched the hawk, smiling a bit before glancing back up at the man. "If you don't mind helping a girl out then we should get going."

She gave him that look. Everyone gave him that look.[break] "Of course not. You and your companion are in safe arms." Literally, considering his deity's ten thousand limbs. "Shall we be off, then?"[break] True to form, the bottomless caverns were dark. He held a torch high, not that it helped overmuch, as he led the Ranger behind him down twisting paths that made little sense. Only when the sounds of pounding echoed throughout the caverns did the two have any sense of where their quarry was.[break] The sound led them to a large circular room, a fitting arena. Mercifully, the area was low-light; a series of lamps and generators set up by the miners that once existed here. Not that they did anymore - the overlarge greenskin in the center of the room held the last survivor fast by his head; a cracking noise, and he was dropped to the floor, scattering into pixels on the wind. Their steps (or at least Raynauld's) were loud, clearly alerting the Unbreakable to their presence.[break] "Behold, you mangy dog of an orc! Before you stands Raynauld, great knight in service to-"[break] Raynauld was promptly cracked upside the head by a flying rock the size of a softball; predictably, monsters and immorals cared very little for his shenanigans. Now aware of them, Ragnarok roared loud and began to move at a healthy clip, Raynauld scrambling to recover and bring his shield up in defense of both himself and Calista.[break] 2/8 - calista

As the two made their way deeper, Calista opened up her menue and started going over her meager inventory. She was silent, sure, but she had a pretty distinct feeling the man she was dealing with was a little crazy. He had been talking about some goddess, unless he was required to introduce himself due to his class? That was a possibility, odd but a possibility. closed the menues before drawing her bow, keeping herself ready in case they came across anything on the trip, but the trip was a quiet one, well as quiet as it could be with Raynauld's heavy footsteps. She actually hadn't introduced herself properly, the girl mentally slapping herself for the negligence. "My name's Calista by the way and I'm a-" she cut herself off as they entered the cavern, her quiet footsteps making little noise as the creatures of target was spotted, the girl taking a few instinctive steps back. She knew that Ragnarok wasn't going to be a pretty sight, but she didn't expect this. She jumped in surprise at Raynauld's words, her eyes flashing to the mass of flesh as it raised the rock and threw it, the girl stepping back a few paces to avoid the rebound, barely stifling the giggle that almost escaped her. The fact that he had expected an AI to just stand there and listen amused her, but the charge didn't. She took a deep breath, stepping out from behind the shield, drawing her bow and taking careful aim at the orc's body, letting lose an arrow at the orc's body, quickly shifting to be behind Raynauld again, unsure if she hit but confident she did. If it did anything to his tough hide though, that was yet to be seen. "So, did you have a plan after the introduction or are we just winging things?"

"We're going to hit it until it dies! It's worked so far!"[break] That... that couldn't be the plan, right? There was some masterpiece going on in that brain of his?[break] When the orc's chained fists struck his shield, it became clear that no, this was the plan. Raynauld entered his duel with Ragnarok in earnest, dodging about as often as he was blocking, an earnest idea considering that the Orc's swings were disrupting the air at their absolute most powerful. Eventually, Raynauld managed to get the orc turned so that his back faced Calista, open for a strike, as Raynauld shoved forward and collided with the orc head-on, as if a train barreling down the tracks.[break] God, he was like a barbarian more than a knight, just smashing headlong into things like that. At least it was good aggro generation, but what was he expecting to protect him, his faith?[break] ... Yeah, that was probably the answer.[break] 3/8 - calista

"It's... worked.... so far...." she repeated slowly, dumbfounded by the response. He was either the biggest idiot she had ever met, crazy, or extremely brave. She was betting on the crazy part, he did seem super devout to a god that was created for the purpose of the game. she opened her mouth and closed it several times as he dueled with Ragnorok, the girl shaking her had and smacking her cheeks as she snapped herself out of her dumbfounded state, a soft whistle signalling to her bird to get up into the air and avoid the battlefield. The girl quickly took several hops back, putting a decent amount of distance between her and the two fights, but keeping herself well within range of not needing her ability. She wanted to try to take the eye if she got the chance, and Deadeye was perfect for that kind of accuracy. Once the large green humanoid's back was turned to her, the AI obviously too invested in the clash and now ignoring the small hunter behind it. She drew the weak bow to it's full draw, took aim, and let lose her second shot, the arrow flying true, pegging the green flesh in the back, causing a cry that echoed through the cavern. She quickly knocked another arrow, though it still took her several seconds before another shot was fired, this one digging into his shoulder, an angry look glanced at her over his shoulder. This... may take a while, he was apparently unbreakable and she only had a little weak beginner bow.

"Where are you looking? Your opponent stands before you!"[break] In truth, Raynauld was already sliding to Ragnarok's side. He figured the bowwoman was probably a touch lower on the totem pole than he was in this game, but given how their quarry's health had dropped in her recent autoattack spree... to put it kindly, he'd overestimated her. He'd be playing both offense and defense, more than likely. But to do that, he'd have to...[break] Ragnarok slammed the ground, shattering the crust of the earth and send up shockwaves at Calista - Perfect! This was the critical moment, after all.[break] "DEUS VULT!"[break] Raynauld propelled himself to march forward with haste, sliding in the space between her and the oncoming strike, taking it head-on; after all, his God willed him to do it, did She not? Raynauld only roared back, having clearly taken the damage but seemingly unwilling to stop. He spun the flail, which shone with a white glow, and charged forward again, meeting the weight of the flail against Ragnarok's fist, a burst of white light shining from it. This fight was far from over.[break] 4/8 - calista

Calista winced at the sight of the approaching shock-wave, only for her current partner to jump in front of the shock-wave and take it all, noting the drop in his health bar from the attack. That pretty much answered her previous question, he was crazy, he didn't even allow her a chance to react and defend herself, though it amused her in a sense too what Ragnarok had just done. "All big bosses have to have a shock-wave attack, eh?" She saw him charge, the flail glowing, her eyes locking onto the unbreakable beast. The strike she was going to have to use to her advantage, it was obvious she was working with a defender after all, she couldn't let him completely out class her damage even if she was far behind him in equipment and level. She blinked a bit slowly as she raised the bow, a light sheen seeming to gloss over her eyes. She took aim, and just as the impact happened she fired, the arrow flying true and sliding past Raynauld by mear centimeters and sliding into the creature's skin, sinking in much deeper this time. Placing it between the ribs was her goal and that's exactly what she had done, everything had a weak point after all. "Try to get me a clear shot of the face within the next two minutes!" she called out. Take out he eye and you take out it's ability to fight, making the rest of the fight easy, at least that's what she was hoping for.

"Is that all? I shall have it done in half that!"[break] That could only mean bad things, but given that Raynauld was shouting the phrase as Ragnarok's fists hammered down upon his shield maybe it was just meant to be a boast. For this to work, however, he would need a certain attack to happen, so Raynauld bobbed and blocked attacks, silently praying to his God for the strike he was looking for.[break] Eventually, it came. Ragnarok swung in an uppercut, and Raynauld moved left and ducked, quickly scooting himself under Ragnarok's legs and rising up behind his back. That... That was certainly something all right.[break] "Ave Maria!"[break] This time, Raynauld's charge carried him up as he tried to climb Ragnarok's back, swinging his flail around the orc's neck and grabbing hold with both arms to try and strangle him. What followed was a pseudo-wrangling as Raynauld tried to turn the orc to face Calista and the Orc attempted to rip the Crusader off of his back. All the Ranger had to do was take the shot when she was ready to.[break] 5/8 - calista

Calista raised an eyebrow at his statement but continued with her more precise shots into the best, never getting a clear shot at the face. Sure, they were doing probably only a bit more damage but it wasn't like they weren't leaving a mark. 90 seconds. Well, the countdown wasn't going to wait for him to actually do something other than duck and weave, but there wasn't much she could ask for. She was at least acting as a true DPS and weaving her strikes between his movements, never even so much as grazing him as they flew by, hitting their mark every time. Calista paused her strikes as he suddenly ducked, diving between the green beast's legs and ending up behind her. She stared dumbfounded for a moment as he started climbing his back, wrapping the flail around Ragnarok's neck, leaving the face wide open. She grinned and pulled the bow to it's full strength, leveling her eyesight on the one remaining eye of the creature in question. 45 seconds. She took in a deep breath, held it, and then let the arrow fly, smiling as she saw the data particles start falling from the now damaged eye, a roar of pain escaping the beast as he reached up, clawing at the area. "And now he's blind," she stated more to herself or anything, but smiling non the less. ▲

"Hah!" Raynauld roared out as he released his grip and slid down the orc's back, immediately jumping back as well to avoid any attack that came flying out afterwards, "Truly wondrous! See how it feels, knave, to have yourself defeated so utterly!" Good, the rest of this would be simple-[break] Ragnarok swung its fists around and around, loosening the chains he used as gauntlets. Quickly, the chains freed themselves from their bondage and the orc quickly began lashing out, swinging them as if they were whips. Raynauld wasn't quick enough to act; one caught him around his shin and he was quickly entangled within, swung around like a human wrecking ball before a down-smash finally slammed him into the ground at about thirty-five percent health.[break] "I... probably should've seen that one coming... huh..."[break] Raynauld stood up, breathing heavily. His armor now took on a new sheen, as if ten thousand hands had come from the sky to reinforce him against pain. Crimson threads tightened around the curiass, the pauldrons, the gauntlets and greaves, newfound fortitude against the villain who stood before him. Fortis in arduis; strength in adversity.[break] "I... I have NOT YET FALLEN, CUR! FACE ME!"[break] And once again, Raynauld moved to face Ragnarok.[break] 6/8 - calista

"Oh for fucks sake," she growled as the giant man started to flail, the chains on his arms loosening. The girl rolled her eyes and let out a sigh, shaking her head as she prepped her next shot, taking her time as the countdown timer on her skill continued. She had time for one more shot, and this one needed to count, strike a critical point in the beat man's model, not that she knew a soft patch of skin to do so with, but letting this go on longer was only going to lead to more pain, and a possible death with how reckless the knight was. 5 seconds. She let lose the arrow, hoping her timing wasn't off and smiling to herself as the chains missed her shot, the arrow missing it's mark, but still digging into some of the flesh along his neck. Killing blow it probably wasn't, painful and weakening she could only pray it was. If not then hopefully Raynauld could end it, if not she'd just pelt it with arrows until Ragnarok was. ▲

Calista's arrow whistled past Raynauld as he charged, not even bothering with his usual charging skill for once. Emboldened by his faith, the only option was ending it once and for all to loudly trumpet his superiority, pain and fear be damned. He leapt forward, over a low sweep of the chains, and swung his flail down, striking as he fell.[break] "This is it! AVE MARIA!"[break] Raynauld charged, headlong into Ragnarok as if a missile headed for its target. He swung his flail wildly, once, twice, three times until he finally met air, barrelling over a toppling Ragnarok as the Orc fell to the ground, bleeding from the previous arrow wound Calista had inflicted upon him as well as the bruises he'd lain upon the orc.[break] "You will not be missed, hateful cur. Aut Lasivia aut nihil."[break] He watched as the orc bled out, dissipating into pixels and leaving two wooden boxes, just for the two of them. Now finally calming down, Raynauld secured the flail in his left hand and looked up at Calista, smiling.[break] "Well, now, don't say chivalry be dead. Ladies first."[break] 7/8 - calista

Calista let out a soft, huffed sigh as the beast fell and dissipated into data, slowly walking up to the area, glancing at Raynauld and his health bar. He was reckless, how he had survived this long she didn't know, then again he probably had more to him than she did. She let out a pitched up whistle, her hawk returning to her shoulder from it's flight on high. "That... would have been a lot harder solo," she said simply as she approached, quickly bending over and scooping up the box, her head tilting a bit at the item before glancing back up at Raynauld. She reached around, clipping the bow back onto her quiver before glancing back down at the box and up to Raynauld. "Thank you. I needed better equipment and this is definitely a good first step. Not to mention the exp for the hunt... I need to try to catch up to every one else after all if I want to help. She smiled at him a little, adjusting her stance. "Though I hope I at least didn't look too weak." She gave him a short nod, glancing back towards the entrance. "Maybe we'll hunt again at some point, but I should get back to town and decide on my next move. It was nice fighting along side someone for a change," she stated, opening her menue and disbanding the party. "I promise I will do more of the work next time too~" she chimed as she bounced a little, her bird digging his claws into her shoulder in protest for a moment before she started walking, the bird's eyes never leaving Raynauld as she started to leave. ▲
