GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY Catharsis tried to take a deep breath when the quicksand inched up around him, but even as he did he found he wasn't sure why. No one was coming to save them. All he was doing was prolonging his own death. The sand crept along, and as Cat finally closed his eyes and expected the slow death to follow, he found himself ... able to breath through his nose. That was what he noticed first, even before he realized he was falling. His eyes snapped open to see the top of some cave, roots hanging down from the ceiling and breaking through stone without revealing any source of light. He had to say, none of this looked anything like what he'd been told hell was like. The air was knocked out of him when he landed, but he took no fall damage, just wincing as he sat up slowly. It was only when he looked to the side at Charlatan that he realized he was very much still alive. He'd just met her, and he was already convinced that there was no way they'd wind up in the same circle of hell.

[break][break] " shhhh...you hear that?" arin asked in a whisper, finger pressed against her lips. there was a sound -- no, sounds of something chittering at the end of the tunnel. with a shrug, arin crawled herself out first and into another room that was much more spacious than the other -- for good reason. the thief's eyes widened at the grotesque scene, her hands clasped over her mouth as she whirled around. the room was filled with eggs covered in thick slime. in the center of the room was the mother, weaving her strands of webs around what she could only guess as a player. GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY Catharsis couldn't remember the last time he'd ever been genuinely lucky. It was only a matter of time before the other shoe dropped, so the moment he realized he was still alive the man was suspicious. He honestly would rather never see the woman's face again for the rest of his life, but when she started to move he realized that being alone might be worse. He rose to his feet and followed, noticing just how much faster she was walking now that it suited her. When he heard the chittering up ahead, he slowed to a stop, frowning. When he was the only one who stopped, though, he had to relent and follow Arin right into ... well, whatever was up ahead. He sent Charlatan a sharp look when she shushed him, when he hadn't even been particularly talkative following his near-death experience. Slowly, though, he looked ahead over her shoulder and nearly recoiled from the sight alone. Turned out, not all things were worse when you didn't see them. It was out of habit that Cat reached out towards whatever helpless player was in the broodmother's grasp, but before he could follow through, they burst into pixels. A chill swept over him, knowing that they might never know if the person had come with a more solid party than they had or not. Worse knowledge was that he had been paying attention while they'd been traveling through, and the tunnels had been deceptively linear. There were no other paths out of this dungeon. Heart beating hard in his chest, he withdrew Gungnir from his inventory, preparing. What for, he wasn't sure. He glanced at the woman. She seemed smart, but following the quicksand incident, he wasn't certain he could rely on her to have a plan. Turned out, there was no time to come up with one. Chittering noises broke his focus, not from the mother, but above. Catharsis barely looked up in time to see the descending centipede, catching it with Gungnir and trying to push it away from the both of them. So much for the element of surprise.

" no way around it; kill her," arin spoke in a harsh whisper only turning in time to see a giant centipede invading the utility's personal space. gross. [break][break] " you got that right?" she asked, not waiting for an answer. someone needed to put damage onto the queen and it wasn't going to be catharsis. as much as she hated it, she had slipped close to the multi-limbed creature. her expression fell once she caught sight of it's face and the sounds that were escaping it's maw in hisses and chitters. the broodmother reared up, staring down at her as if she were a newly delivered meal. no thanks. arin slashed at the insect hybrid not caring for where as long as it had landed. in her rage, the broodmother struck back knocking the thief away sending her tumbling right next to catharsis. smirking, arin decided to bother him despite his struggles. GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY As expected, the woman happily left him to deal with the centipede spawn all on his own. Gritting his teeth, Catharsis drove the spear down, before shifting into striking it in quick succession when he saw the woman racing off towards the woman on her own. It was a stupid move. He didn't necessarily want to heal the woman who had left him for dead, but he also needed her to absorb the focus of the boss monster for as long as possible. Thankfully, for the first time in a while, he didn't have to worry about his energy supply. There was no question that the two of them hated each other; he was free to pick whatever spells he wanted. His attacks weren't strong enough to kill the thing, and yet it toppled over onto its side. Living, but motionless and out of the way just in time for Charlatan to get thrown right back next to him. Ah. Exactly where he didn't want her to be. Of course. He stared blankly at her for a moment, before smiling. "Do you really think so?" He asked, "Well damn, that never would have occurred to me. I guess you just have all the answers, don't you?" He asked, but the problem was that with the attacker close to him, the attention of the broodmother wasn't far. Raising his hand before he'd even finished talking, Catharsis cast a schadenfreude, a burst of energy ripping into the segmented skin of the giant bug, pixels of health leaving her body and redistributing back between the both of them. Too bad he couldn't deny that part of it. "See? You're fine. Guess you'd better get back out there." He said, his false cheery echoing off of the walls as the great broodmother was already on the move towards them.

GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY The Empath rolled his eyes at the thief's remarks, hissing a, "Just do your job," when she decided to just stand there talking back to him instead of, well, literally anything productive. The woman shot forward to do just that, striking the broodmother and then making her move to escape. So far, he'd seen nothing too fancy. When he saw the healthbar of the boss go way down from the critical hit, however, he paused, filled with mixed feelings. It looked like they just might get out of this alive. On the other hand, all of Charlatan's attitude was put into clarity. She really didn't need anyone else to survive to get out of this. As if on cue, the centipede started moving again. He frowned and went to hit it again to put it back into a comatose state, but instead the thing wrapped around the spear on its way to sink teeth into his legs. He hissed as he saw his health go down, not because the attack hit hard, but because he could already feel the side effect kick in. Due to some kind of poison, his health was slowly ticking down. If he wasn't a healer, that might just be a problem. Lifting the spear, Catharsis threw it with the centipede still attached straight for the broodmother that had keeled over. After all, it was only polite to return someone's children to them. The spear struck true into the broodmother that was still rising, the centipede bursting into pixels on the impact. Gungnir disappeared, reappearing next to the Empath before he took it. His health, however, was still ticking down. Frowning, he raised a hand to heal himself, forgoing his preferred aoe heal to use bond of compassion. In a burst, his health climbed up to full - for now, anyway.

[break][break] " would you look at that? you see, if i was capable of saving you, i would." [break][break] " i'll take one from your book," the thief smiled, tossing her own weapon directly for the broodmother. it was no surprise that it was the killing blow. fragments of colors burst all around them, clearing the entire room out of the insects altogether. GIVE ME ALL YOUR ENERGY LOVE ME LIKE AN ENEMY Catharsis glanced at Charlatan, his expression flat and unconvinced as he let it speak for him more than any words might. Sure, she would save him when it meant saving herself. Of that much he was sure. When she made a point of mimicking him and throwing her weapon, he watched after it. It might not respawn next to her, but it would return to her inventory. At least, he was pretty sure that was how this all worked. It was hard to be worried about it when it was near certain she was going to deliver the killing blow. Inhaling slowly and then exhaling, he stepped forward to look over the bug-free cavern. He had to say, it looked much better this way. Now that he was finally able to relax, he turned a wary eye on her, not unequipping his weapon as he made his way to look through the loot that had been dropped. After all, he had no doubt she would take all of it if he let it sit too long.
