Quests were generally given through the quest menu, but strangely this one was just given to him on... paper. He was just as bewildered at the next person about the existence of paper in the game. It felt like everyone was so tech-literate that paper served as nothing more than eye candy on desks. The more you know... he nodded thoughtfully taking a step forward.[break][break] The details of the quest were just as sketchy as the person who issued it. He sighed, it was house sitting and pet sitting for a bit from what he could make of it. He only needed to stay there for one night and fend off any would-be intruders. Easy, he told himself as the gates parted to let him through. He had to admit that it felt nice having a master-key card in hand and at the same time, he wondered why anyone would trust a stranger with their mansion. He could practically waltz himself into any room in the house and take anything he'd like -- not that he was going to -- probably.[break][break] Ghost held up the card again in front of the gold decorated doors. Like he expected, he was welcomed in without resistance. He whistled feeling more and more impressed by the sheer size of the house. Getting lost might be an issue... he thought distractedly, noticing doors lined upstairs and downstairs. He closed the doors quietly behind him to take in the sights, it actually reminded him of an Italian art museum. He strolled himself around the entrance area where a grand staircase separated the house into west and east wings.[break][break] Just a little tour around wouldn't hurt. that was you. Catharsis had just been shuffling through to see what he could and could not vandalize knock off of a table, when he'd found a key with a paper with an address on it. Not only that, but he was apparently invited to go inside of a mansion to babysit? Just allowed to walk right in? Dog sit, get paid for it, all while sitting in a mansion full of fancy shit the fucks probably wouldn't miss? Yeah, okay, that was one way to spend the night working. Sign him up. Suckers. He was already inside, having just opened a glass cabinet full of fancy glass shit he could probably sell when the door opened. He startled, turning halfway to stare at the entrance. There wasn't really a lot of places for him to hide, so he waited to see who it was. If it was some NPC, it barely even mattered. If it was a player, then he needed to come up with a reason- He blinked hard when he recognized the man, unsure if it would be better to just leave or not. Frowning, he set down the glass dove, realizing it'd probably break if he tried to carry it with Ghost around. Maybe he'd come back for it later. "You get the sitting quest too?" He asked blandly, knowing better than to wait for the Phantom to catch sight of him and assume he didn't know the guy was there. ghost 1/7 MADE BY ★MEULK

He felt the excitement build up already thinking about his plans for dinner later. He skipped himself out of that room and into the room on the left side to check it out as well. To his disappointment, it was a simple passage down to a dark, dreary basement of some sort. Pass. The Phantom turned to leave without a second thought, closing the door behind him. [break][break] He decided to check out the upper floor of the mansion now that he had cleared his curiosity downstairs. He took large steps as he made his way up the grand staircase, his hand trailing along the golden railings. His eyes were locked on the first room at the end of the staircase as he approached it. Must be the master bedroom, he guessed as he took his last step up. He stared at the decorated door knob before turning his head down the hallway. It was then that he took notice of another person.[break][break] " Uh, funny seeing you here," Ghost started half-unsure if it really was Catharsis. It was weird for them to coincidentally end up in the same place for the same quest. " I did," he answered flatly not even bothering to question him. " So...do you want to do some exploring?" He paused. " Also, what have you been up to?" that was you. Catharsis blinked. Ghost wasn't acting like his usual self, but then he'd been a bit different ever since that first dungeon run. It seemed like it was going to haunt him and he didn't really know how to smooth things over. Maybe he'd just gift the guy with one of those pangolin things? Or would that just make it worse? He honestly couldn't tell at this point. Ghost asked if he wanted to do some exploring, and he smiled. "I had the same idea. Gotta say, I haven't seen any sign of a dog or animal yet though. What about you?" He paused for a split second at the question, knowing full well there was a chance Ghost was asking what he'd been doing so close to the open cabinet. Instead, he smiled brightly. "Oh, you know. Training. I can make pets now along with mounts, was thinking of starting some kind of business. Thanks for asking. I had no idea you cared."Moving closer to the Phantom, he raised his hands palm facing the ceiling. "What about you? How have you been?"ghost 2/7 MADE BY ★MEULK

He didn't know where the animal was either which only meant one thing: exploration. No choice, he supposed. With no direction nor instruction on the whereabouts of the creature, they would have to search every room. He was already giddy about the idea even before Cat had agreed to join him. There was no telling what they would find and if it was of any value, well, it's disappearance could be easily written off. That wasn't to say he would settle on just anything, no. He knew fully well what he needed and on his honor as a gentleman, he was only going to take what was necessary. [break][break] He wasn't sure if Catharsis shared the same ideals and didn't care if he did if he were honest. In the end, what mattered most to him was completing the job without trouble. The Phantom's grin turned into a smirk once he noticed the open cabinet next to the seemingly innocent Empath. " I see, I see," he said, turning his back to the red-haired male. He took a few slow, steps forward before glancing back with raised brows. He knew exactly what his friend had been up to before he had entered and nearly caught him in the act, but of course, catching Cat doing anything was a feat in itself. Ghost always held a certain respect for his friend's methodical ways and the way he was able to let others see only what he wanted them to see.[break][break] Clever.[break][break] " I've learned some new tricks and have picked up small quests here and there to fill in the time. Other than that, I'm still the same charming guy you adore." He chuckled, batting his eyelashes at the other male. " Don't worry, you'll always have a place in my heart," he assured with a light laugh. " After you," he said in a sing-song tone after stepping to the side with a low bow. that was you. Catharsis' step faltered for a moment when Ghost turned his back on him, his eyebrows raising when the man looked over his shoulder at him. He could tell, in one stroke, that Ghost did see. Right through him, in fact. And yet, he hadn't made any move to rebuke or assault him. That seemed like Ghost, and yet it still surprised him; it just wasn't the reaction he was used to. He was aware, peripherally, that Ghost was both smart enough to catch onto him, and smart enough to know there was no proof and no point in driving a point home ... yet. His eyes shone like a cat watching a feathered toy, his heart beating to a different rhythm in his chest when Ghost spoke, while he listened to every word for any different meaning or play. It was fascinating, as though for once he wasn't certain that he wasn't the mouse in this game ... and yet, he wasn't fearful for his life, either. Not against a man who seemed a pacifist even to his own detriment. There was a quality to it that he couldn't begrudge. He found he held a certain respect for the Phantom, a certain fun to be found in the push and pull. His fingers curled back towards himself as if they felt the need to scratch an itch, and he let his hands fall to his side. "I'm so relieved," He replied, a short hum following as he took a few steps to close the gap between them. He paused after coming to stand side by side with the man, lowering his head and altering his body language to appear even shorter than he actually was against the man one inch taller than him. "It's almost like you don't trust me," His voice was soft and smooth, nearly a purr before he broke into a small laugh and strode forward. Had he not known better, he might have become defensive; suspected Ghost of wanting to keep an eye on him. That might still be the case, but Catharsis at least knew there was a decent enough excuse that he couldn't seriously accuse the man of such a thing. "New tricks, hm?" He asked as he led the way, "Something more offensive to keep you safe?" That would be ideal, in no small part because it would keep the Empath safer when they partied together in dungeons. For some reason, however, he almost doubted it. ghost 3/7 MADE BY ★MEULK

The only thing that ran through his mind at that moment was: busted. They were at a stalemate now that they both have made their moves. Neither fooling the other and well, that was just the way he liked it. He skipped himself happily right next to his 'new' companion, whistling a brief tune. He thought over his answer as there were many factors to consider, such as which would land him more fun. The straight answer or the riddled one?[break][break] " Correct," he answered settling on a mix of the two for now. He wasn't too keen on revealing his new move just yet. It was a surprise that he was sure, Catharsis would enjoy especially with how absurd it was from the name to the actual ability. " Oh, that reminds me," he said in a smooth whisper, " won't you make me a pet now that you're a fancy petmaker of sorts?" The Phantom cooed, half-draping himself over the other's shoulder. " Make me something cute-- like you."[break][break] Nailed it.[break][break] He went on to attempt to pet his friend's face, but noticed something peculiar about the door downstairs. The basement door that he was sure he had shut earlier was now, opened , though slightly. " Curious," Ghost murmured, " I'm almost certain that door was shut closed before I walked up here." that was you. It seemed like he wasn't going to get a full answer on the details about the Phantom's new abilities, but that was probably better. A few people had been dodgy about others knowing how their kit worked, That was fine, he was a bit busy noticing that the Phantom made the point of trailing beside him, matching his pace. He was looking forward, to the room across from the one that they'd been in; he'd seen something catch the light when he'd first climbed the stairs, before he'd been drawn to the other room. If he could just keep the Phantom focused on something other than what he was doing, maybe- His line of thought broke when the man draped himself over Catharsis. For a moment, the man's spine stiffened at the uncalled for contact, but he relaxed. Ghost probably meant him no harm. He frowned, not entirely distracted from his companion's request or the fact that he wasn't offering to pay for it. He stared at Ghost as the man touched him, a soft hum dying under his tongue before he opened his mouth to speak. "Isn't it funny," He mused, closing his eyes halfway as he watched Ghost's hand reach towards his face. 'I don't remember you ever calling me cute before now." He did nothing to stop the gesture, however insulting. Not yet. Flattery and wordplay was, after all, his forte. At least, when he wanted it to be. When Ghost spoke again, however, he frowned and turned his gaze down the stairs and towards the wide open door of the basement. "Stop pulling my leg." He scowled, certain that Ghost was just trying to get a rise out of him. He'd obviously left it wide open before he'd come up - although, he had genuinely seemed surprised to see Cat, so that didn't actually make any sense. Catharsis heard a beep, and checked to see a ping on his quest marker. Frowning, he pulled up the list to see an addendum added to the quest he was currently on, and his heart sank while his blood chilled. > Go into the basement For a brief moment, a laughter broke open out of his throat, harsh and unkind, before it ended abruptly with a sharp, "Nope." Catharsis said quickly, turning straight around and hooking his arm into the crook of Ghost's elbow as he started to drag him back. No. Uh-uh. He'd seen enough of these movies, he was out and he wasn't even going to bother to race down all those stairs to have to pass by that open basement door. Nah. He'd just break the window and hop out. Could the fall kill him? Maybe. Would that be better than whatever was waiting for them downstairs? Oh, yeah. Definitely. ghost 4/7 MADE BY ★MEULK

He wasn't kidding. The next thing he knew, they both received quest notifications detailing the same thing: go into the basement. Well, that didn't sound ominous at all. Ghost shrugged and before he could open his mouth to comment on the new development, he was whisked away back down the hallway at speeds that baffled him. It was out of instinct that he moved along with Cat, struggling to keep up with what was happening. [break][break] They were soon alone in a room together once Cat promptly slammed the door shut behind them. It was then that he had released Ghost's arm. It looked like he had important matters to look into and without much thought, Ghost plopped himself onto the edge of a neatly folded bed. From there, he could see outside clearly. When he looked back up at Cat, the man had already opened the window up as far as it went, which was about halfway. It wasn't hard to connect the dots after that.[break][break] " You know, if we jumped out the window to escape...uh, I think we'd actually die." He blinked, standing up next to him to get a better look. Like he had saw, there was nothing down there to break their fall aside from good old concrete. He rubbed his chin thoughtfully, " I am a doctor -- technically -- and if you fall from this height, you'll turn into an unsavory pizza." He laughed lightly, " before you jump, you should trade me all of your items and coin." [break][break] Ghost hummed a gentle tune. " It'd be far easier if we just went back the same way and just sneak past the basement door with my portals. Sadly, my portals can't get us down from this height. Shame." He turned around, striding slowly towards the door until his hand was firmly on the knob. " Coming?" that was you. "That's okay." He said a bit too quickly. He'd been called to enough people who had jumped out of buildings. He was well aware of what he'd realistically look like, and while that would have given him pause in real life, here he knew he'd just burn away into pretty little pixels, never to be seen again. Vanity would not stop him from this. If he was going to die, he might as well be the one choosing how. If Ghost survived him, well, it'd be such a shame he'd have to miss the funeral on the outside. Cat was so sure it'd be a regret the Phantom carried with him. It was the thought of giving up his money and items that snapped him slowly back down into reality, and he paused and stepped back from the window. Just a step, but he was listening now, cold eyes focused on the man. His lips formed neither a frown or a smile as he resisted the urge to remind the Phantom that he worked in the medical field too as opposed to actually listening to what he was saying. It was hard. Really, he deserved a medal for the effort. As the option to both live and keep his things was presented to him, he squinted at Ghost in suspicion. It was very likely he was being lied to. He couldn't prove it, but by default it was just something he believed when told something that would actually be good. He crossed his arms, deciding that he didn't have much choice but to trust the Phantom. "I- ... Fine. Okay. That works." He let out a slow, stressed sigh through his nose. "Or it'd better, anyway." While it wasn't intended as a threat so much as a wish, he wouldn't dictate how Ghost wanted to take it. ghost 5/7 MADE BY ★MEULK

He had blatantly lied about his portal's distances. Well, he couldn't blame the man for it after all, he hardly used it in front of him. A few times here and there when they were engaged in combat; outside of that, he never felt the need to talk about it. After opening the door, Ghost led the way back down the hallways. As much as he disliked leading, it couldn't be helped seeing as how he was sure Cat wouldn't follow him otherwise. 'Go first' was a common proverb among people stuck in a horror film.[break][break] As far as he knew, they were in one.[break][break] The man walked at a lax pace, looking over his shoulder now and then to confirm his partner wasn't straggling behind. He understood Cat's fears and at the same time, he didn't exactly. Sure, they were alone in an empty large house with god knows what. They have spent their lives within the game fighting monsters daily so honestly, what on earth could scare them at this point? Ghost exhaled softly at the ironic thought. It wasn't like they were unarmed either.[break][break] Ghost stood in front of the grand staircase, waiting for the red-haired male to follow him out of the safety of the hall's shadows. The Phantom spread his arms out to unnecessarily show that he was fine standing where he was. He gestured for Empath to come stand next to him with a wide smile. Cat was going to hate him for this, but he couldn't pass up the chance to pull a prank that would brand him for life if Ghost did it right.[break][break] " Let's get out of here~" [break][break] catharsis[break] hee [break][break] [ 6/7] [attr="class","drkeecredit"]# DARKEE[googlefont=Montserrat:400,700][newclass=.drkeecredit]text-align: center; width: 100%; font: 8px montserrat; font-weight: 700; margin-top: 3px;[/newclass][newclass=.drkeecredit a]font: 8px montserrat; font-weight: 700;[/newclass]

that was you. Cat didn't appreciate feeling like he was being hand held through the big scary mansion, especially when he'd initially come here for easy money and loot. He should've known better. The game had already demonstrated plenty of times that it was out to kill them, and do so ruthlessly. Of course there would be a goddamn horror element right down to the promise of an unguarded wealthy home to lure unsuspecting and totally innocent players. He still hadn't been entirely convinced by Ghost that he wasn't going to die here. Then Ghost made a display, and Cat squinted at him while simultaneously feeling much better. It was extremely obvious that if one of them was going to die first, it'd be Ghost. If he was going to continue to be a little shit, that was fine by Cat. Relaxing somewhat, Cat stepped forward to stand next to Ghost - pitting Ghost between himself and the basement door as casually as he could manage. With that, he looked at Ghost with suspicion out of the corner of his eye, tilting his head slightly away. "Alright. Let's see that trick up your sleeve."ghost 6/7 MADE BY ★MEULK

He showed some restraint, however to lessen his chances of spooking the guy. As always, Cat's guard was raised up into high heaven. With a little bit from his showsman side, Ghost closed his eyes for a moment, mouthing random words as if he was invoking actual magic. He opened one eye to check if Cat was buying it in the first place before finishing up the foreplay with a quick, ' badoosh'. The word left him choking it down careful not to burst into sudden laughter. There was just something so satisfying about the magical word.[break][break] With a wave of his hands, Ghost revealed the spacial tear, taking a step to the side. He grinned from ear to ear as if he was proud of himself. The ability was stretched tall enough for the both of them to walk through, though not wide enough to walk side by side. Cat would have to go first, of course. " Age before beauty," he stated with a chuckle, waving his arms towards the portal's entrance. " Rest assured, I placed the exit right outside the front door so this way, we don't have to fall short of it and risk having to scramble to open it if something should happen." His hand patted the man's back gently as encouragement. [break][break] " Cross my heart," Ghost husked in a deep whisper as he held his fingers crossed behind his back. that was you. He had to admit, the portal was impressive. Cat paused, waiting for Ghost to go first for a moment given that he had been so sure the other man was older than him regardless of how he acted. Then he realized the portal would probably close when the Phantom went through it, and rolled his eyes. Ghost's attempts at comfort didn't really help him, the man wincing for half a second at the touch before he looked away towards the door. The suspicion in his eyes didn't exactly ease, but he relented as he basically didn't have a choice. He might as well give the Phantom a chance. After all, it was unlikely Ghost actually did want to die and take Catharsis with him. In the back of his mind, he was aware of this. Inhaling slowly, he walked forward through the portal. For some reason, he'd expected fresh air and bright sunlight to meet him. Predictably, instead he was met with betrayal as his feet stepped lower than he'd expected and he went down a few steps ... past the entrance of the basement. Catharsis' back stiffened and the hair on the back of his neck stood on end. He turned sharply to leave - only to run straight into a man who seemed to be very amused with what he'd just done. That didn't really matter to Catharsis at the moment, because he was willing to trample right through the man if it meant getting out of there. Of course, the stairwell was too narrow for him to just slip by, so he tried to push him without much hope. When the Empath's strength predictably failed him, however, he didn't stop. With his mind set to get out of the basement at any cost, he moved to literally attempt to climb right over Ghost like an actual discontented cat. The other man, surprised as he must have been, was actually stronger than Cat had expected, actually capable of holding his weight without crashing down. He was trying to say something, but Catharsis was too angry - and maybe something else - to bother to listen. The problem arose when their legs got tangled in Cat's attempt, and the next thing he knew they were falling. In the complete opposite direction than Catharsis had meant to go. Down the stairs. ghost 7/7 PART 1 END. continue?MADE BY ★MEULK
